My father knew Kreisler. He was a frequent visitor at the house that my father grew up in, in London. He was mainly visiting Dad's mother, who was a contralto - Kreisler's path crossed Nora's quite a few times as she toured a fair bit and sang at some major venues, hence the visits. Nora was a bit of an eccentric, by all accounts, and so was Kreisler - when he played on stage he was always accompanied by his little dog. Nora was pursued by a stage door Johnny, who simply would not give up, and ultimately married him - just to get rid of him, she always used to say. They were besotted with each other for all of their lives until her husband died very suddenly and she fell into the most awful decline. I think my musical gift (piano) comes in part, from her. I always think of her when I hear this piece. Thank you for recording it and posting it here. 🙂

Absolutely loved this. When I was working on this piece one of the things I loved was all the moving lines that weren't the melody or bass and thinking about how to bring them out, and your performance gave them an emphasis that I'd never heard even in my head or while experimenting. Also, your tempo and pedaling overall felt a lot more "handsome" than a lot of other interpretations that I'd heard, and it gives me a lot of new ideas and inspiration to continue working on my own interpretation. Thanks for sharing this!

I remember I watched a video of you about the quarter and half pedal techniques and you played a snippet of this piece in that video. The first time I heard you emphasised the inner voices, I said to myself “I can’t wait for Josh to post the whole piece!” And here it is! I really admire your ingenuity and creativeness in your interpretations. You make these commonly heard pieces as if it is sounded new.❤️ Thank you as always!!

Hi, I need some advice. I just started piano this year and I'm in the middle of high school with no piano teacher and no previous piano experience. I have learned only one song all the way through (Ashitaka and San) by Joe Hisaishi, and I know that's not really hard and it took me 4 weeks to learn. Now I'm about 2 pages into Claire De Lune, and two pages into a Grieg Sonata. Liebesleid has been my favorite piano piece I have ever heard and I want to learn how to play it really soon but don't know how to get to a place where I can play it, meaning I don't know if I should start practicing it a little by little, or play songs that would gradually help me prepare (i don't know if there are songs that would help me prepare for it so if you have any suggestions on those that would be great too) , or dive into it. I just need to know how realistic my expectations are and what the right path would be. Any and all suggestions are very welcome.
@junheecho9800
@junheecho9800 3 года назад
Liebeslied is incredibley difficult and is a piece for about 1st year college majors. You should not be trying it. Frankly clair de lune would be a stretch too. If you desperatly wish to learn thia piece then i recommend some hanon or czerny technique pieces. Once you've learn at least the first 70 hanon "the virtuoso pianist" then you can consider... Learning something else. I recommmend some bach. Great for technique and voicing. Though to be frank both of those are boring as fuck. If you wanr you can try liebeslied and see for yourself how out of reach that piece is right now, or if you learn it then good on you.
@ButcherBakerCandlestickmaker
@ButcherBakerCandlestickmaker 3 года назад
@@junheecho9800 Thanks, so far claire de lune hasn't been to difficult but I have yet to finish it and that will probably take a few more months. I have the hanon technique book and have only mastered the first 2 excercises, but ill keep that up for sure. Do you have any specific bach pieces? I did actually try learning Liebesleid for a week but could only get the first 3 or 4 measures down. Do you have a career in piano?
@rinsim
@rinsim 3 года назад
I strongly recommend Beyer op101. It's a collection of more than 100 short pieces which are ideal to start. After that, or in parallel, you can work on Czerny op599. Claire de Line will take a normal student 7 to 10 years to play decently. The piece Josh played here is probably unreachable for most human beings.
@ButcherBakerCandlestickmaker
@ButcherBakerCandlestickmaker 3 года назад
@@rinsim Please excuse my ignorance but why does Claire De Lune take so long to learn and why is it so hard, most say its a good piece for beginners? So far ive felt pretty good about how well ive played the first 2 pages.
@_colestrong
@_colestrong 3 года назад
@@ButcherBakerCandlestickmaker I’m Studying Claire de lune Right now. The first two pages are not very difficult technically but they are definitely musically. Pages 3 and 4 have a lot of arpeggios which are difficult if you don’t have any experience with them. Also voicing the correct notes is a very hard thing to do because of how the arpeggios are split between the hands. All and all it’s not too difficult that I don’t think you could do it but just know it is very difficult and will take some time.

Please dont put the mics INSIDE the piano! It results in very dry and brittle sound which is a shame because youre playing beautifully. 30-60cm away the piano works best imo

Hey guys I need some advice. I’ve been playing piano for a year now and I’ve been able to play op 9 no 2, fur elise, and halfway through rondo in d will I be able to start Polonaise Op 53?
@PianoDawg1620
@PianoDawg1620 2 года назад

@TheOne-pq4ph
@TheOne-pq4ph 2 года назад
@@PianoDawg1620 if I did start it how long do u think it would take me?
@PianoDawg1620
@PianoDawg1620 2 года назад
@@TheOne-pq4ph If you started right now, but still did your regular stuff (scales, arpeggios and other pieces that your teacher recommends), it can take upwards of 3 years. I know, that sounds crazy, but it's true. And if you mainly focus on just the Polonaise, which I strongly don't recommend, you might be able to "finish" it in approximately 2-3 years depending on how much you practice. I don't recommend this piece to you at all because, if you don't make your expected amount of progress it can be very, very discouraging and can even lead to bad mental health (I know this from first hand experience). Often, even people with more than 5 years of * quality * experience find this piece difficult. Sorry for the lengthy reply, but I had to tell you everything I could.
@PianoDawg1620
@PianoDawg1620 2 года назад
If you can play Op.9 No.2 (and the others you mentioned) I can recommend the Op.26 No.1 Polonaise, but take my recommendation with a grain of salt. You should ask your teacher what pieces you can play.
