Liebherr's Largest Bulldozer Ripping

Liebherr's prototype PR776 bulldozer ripping hard compacted boulders and gravel. This material is much harder than it looks. The quarry has what I estimate to be a 100ft vertical cliff with some overhangs that shows not the slightest hint of instability. The operator of the Liebherr dozer finds it to be a better machine for ripping than the equivalent Cat D10T he has experience on.

I saw the pr776 in person at the Las Vegas minexpo and what a beautiful looking machine! I also was fortunate to meet Mr. Liebherr at minexpo. Very classy, respected man. Anyways i have never operated a dozer but it sure looks like he's ripping some hard dirt. Thanks for sharing!

Wow!! That engine sound......would definitely cause a huge smile on Mr. Rudolf Diesel's face! ...makes that work look so easy too. Balancing this 71 T steel beast on a ripper tip is smfn else too......hydrostatic drive comes on its own in these conditions!

It looked like some of that material was frozen the way it ripped, but some of it had larger boulders in it that looked solid. If you have a chance can you show the crusher set up?

It depends on whats your definiton "on top" means. Caterpillar might have the biggest world market share, maybe Komatsu is also in Reach. They also deliver less spec Models to big Value Markets in South America, Africa India and such. And of Course their Machines are also good. Liebherr is very pricey they have a fully hydrostatic transmission, which means you have all the power in every situation, when when you have to push out heavy boulders, working arround edges or Ripping in bouldery Material. Furthermore the Liebherr Machine has a very low fuel consumption, and is easier to operate.

I'll have you know I've been ripping keyboards for over 80 years, and I once ripped 12 acres of solid granite keyboards with a spatula and a Honda Civic in 4 minutes flat. The operator in the video is obviously incompetent, he's just ripping dirt. Where's his keyboard? Why isn't he working as hard as I think he should?

Hi, Dozer1642. IMHO, he is doing a pretty good job there. he is using the tilt rams to help with penetration and leverage and he's NOT tearing around like a cut snake and thus abusing the machine. But what would I know? I'm only in the 58th year of my apprenticeship. LOL. Hi Awesome Earthmovers. Thanks for posting this video. Just my 0.02. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas plant.

Good machine. Cat pattent design . But this light V12 engine is not ideal for heavy tractor aplications. I prefer Cat C27 engine or Cummins QSX. And planetary powershift transmission. Hidráulica Drive is very good Drive system but hydromechanical is more efficient.

@AwesomeEarthmovers
@AwesomeEarthmovers 6 лет назад
They are quarry tracks for working on hard material. The wider they are the more prone to damage they are and give more resistance when turning. A dozer working on soil or clay needs wider tracks.

There are 1000 dozers , CAT, KOMATSU that work in similars conditions, and harders also.What are the differences ?The name Liebherr ??Work in the same conditions to ripping for years, i want see how many working hours will arrive the travel pumps and motors .What the Liebherr projectists say : 20000 working hours without overhauls ?With CAT D 10 , Komatsu D 475 ; also the old Allis Chalmers 41 B , my long service experience says yes, they are arrived and have continued to work , without transmission overhaulAnd Liebheerist what they say ?????Liebherr has discovered the ripping !!!!Please !

Ferdinando Cappelletti I say what I want. And your opinion is your opinion, nothing more nothing less. Liebherr is not a cheap Asian copy brand! It is solid engineering. Good for you if you are a caterpillar or komatsu groupy. But this is your opinion only. Other people judge it different, so get on with it. If you post such statements, dont be surprised about a feed back, no offense.

hi ferdinando, especially from russian areas is the Keyword. i work for liebherr on ship- and offshore cranes from Liebherr (pumps and Motors are the same, only the prime mover is a big electric), and most of the ships i see have russian or ukrain Crew. when i see there original oilfilters after ~ 6000 running hours or up to 7 (!) years, i know why im installing new pumps and Motors. another Detail: the Mooring lines are just tight, the cranes are started up and taken out of restposition with full Speed on all gears, with oil thats just at ~...°C - whatever, give a fuck, full Speed from the turn on. on offshore rigs with expierenced permanent staff, they run up to 25 years and more than 15000 hours. what i like on the hydrostatic drive is the excellent Control: stepless from Zero to full Speed to full force and reverse- only by swiveling a fucking swashplate, and braking also. and the drive Train is easy to protect from overload by some pressure relief valves. and if a pump or Motor is fucked up, its changed in a day or two (on the crane!)

Good morning , tks for your technical answer, but i don't agree totally for you. A big dozer work to 30000 working hours and crane work is a light work, totally different from excavators and dozers work, Liebherr pumps and motors ( attentions that , on mining machines many of them are all Rexroth , not Liebherr, because Liebherr doen't produce big dimensions pumps and motors ) are the same, i tknow well, but on a crane , donìt work for many minutes to 3800 to 400 bars continually when the wheel loaders and dozers pull hard materials. No hyd components resist so much to continuos high pressure and shocks. My Liebherr techncial service experience is a demontration of my theory. I am an old field servic techncian , with more of 40 years of experience in mobile hyd circuits on earth moving machines. The first hyd dozers and crawler loader was the Venieri 10.54 , with Linde closed circuit with a pump and hyd motor + classical steeering clutch and brakes: finish of 60 ìs years. afater arrived JCB wth 713 and 714 models, front cab and hydrostatic trasmission. After arrived JD and LIEBHERR with the 721 , 621 and 531 models. Also Volvo take the decision of produce the light wheel loader, L 50 C , with hyd rostatic tranmission. I was happy , is my work, but, step by step, aater many working hours, the reability of hydrostatic trasmission , in so hard conditions, was not so the best. Large and maning machines need reability components, no so much sophisticated . Also the mining excavators have minus sophisticated hyd circuits. Is the reality !. But Liebherr, for a commercial imagepush behind this. The future, and Rexroth deutch techncians and projectists say this from 80 ' s years, is the diesedl electric, as Komatsu Dresser Haulpak dumpers, Le Tourneau wheel loaders ( now Komatsu ) and the new CAT 988 M with electric transmission, or Volvo L 220 Hibrid. Is an argoment that i don't like speak , but is the reality !! The Chilens high level iron mines are the best electric dumpers demontrantion of they reability and lower fuel consume. Plus, i detest the Liebherr commercial trading mentality, and service. They thing that are the best, totally wrong !! Why Bauer and Solimec mount their pile driver attachments only over Sennebogen carriers ?? Soilmec , a parts the light machines, has always bought Sennebogen carriers, but Bauer start and worked for many years with Liebherr. From more of 20 years stop. Is only for carrier prices ??? Not, is for Liebherr bad service in many countries and too high cost of components and groups. Is the really and all Liebherr managements know very well , but , because this is a company with government mentality, don't want talk of this. When you travel in Germany and see the local chantiers, find all brands, not only Liebherr or Sennebogen, or CAT , or Komatsu, or Volvo. Find Doosan, Hyundai, now Sany. For cranes , find Hitachi, Kobelco, Sany also Why, only for the price ?? I hope that you would receive a correct serious answer, techncal and commercial answer

I don't get it.. You have a beautiful piece of machine, that's more than capable of doing the job, but the operator make it seem like he would've need a bigger piece of equipment, and still not get the job done. When the tooth is stuck on bedrock, you take note and remember, "that's the spot where the bedrock is, I can't rip thru it.". And why doesn't he shove the material he's already ripped up out of his way, so that he has a clear path he can work on? I thought you were supposed to do that, but it might just be that that's how I work with heavy equipment.. Me, I wouldn't be having the machine to rest on the ripper, while only the front part of the belts are touching the ground. I would've found a soft spot, where it's only dirt, not bedrock.. It's like trying to haul a tractor-trailer with a fiat 500 and not understanding why the shit car broke down.

I checked your earlier link to that ripping video german perinan and that tilt angle on the ripper is meant to be used while the ripper shanks buried in the ground. It's designed to bring the shank and tooth in towards the machine and help pull the large rock up instead of trying to drag it through the ground like the video you linked to clearly shows. No you don't constantly use it, but I do reset the shank angle if heavy rock starts showing up and I want that pulled to the surface.If you think it's so easy to keep the rear of the machine fully on the ground during each and every pass then you've never tried it. Varying ground and rock conditions will tend to lift the machine and that's why you see him raising the ripper to lower the machine when it happens. I've done a hell of a lot of ripping with both cats and hoes and in my opinion the operators doing a pretty decent job. As good or better than I could do in fact.
@rossgray3070
@rossgray3070 6 лет назад
Thats the correct way to use variable pitch rippers, thats what they were made to do , other wise the manufactures would have left them as fixed pitch or radial arc rippers. You get a lot more production and is easier on the machine. I have spent the last 50 yrs on dozers of all shapes and sizes and he is good, not like some you see here on youtube who haven't got a clue how to operate a dozer/ ripper.
