This movie shows a short journey through the single-engine concept of the LTM 1300-6.2 from Liebherr: It provides weight advantages for more lifting capacities and higher efficiency. For verification, an extensive practical test has been performed.

Liebherr.. always innovative. Wonder when they will build a crane with composite/carbon fiber boom.

to be honest, im appalled that humanity took this long to figure this out. -_-

cool but i have my questions on more wear on the extra spinning parts. Personally i am still waiting when these machines turn into "hybrids" only using the combustion engine as an electrical and hydrolic power source to drive the wheels and the rest of the machinery. i also feel that like some cranes nowadays you can lose 1 cab. i also feel that the road driving direction for a combination like this could be changed 180. Combining this withe a cab on a rotating lift arm and making it drive "backwards" would only need 1 cab at the end where nowadays the counter waits live , those then could be placed what is now the front together withe the base spreaders for the outriggers , for driving and stowing etc. the pro on dooing this is the following in my eyes : Making the thing electrical , you could hook it up to a power supply on a building site. Thus making it more quite , and outputting les emissions. Which in turn would make it more easy to work in confined city spaces where noise and pollution is more stringent. Making it an hybrid would also reduce the amount of heavy spinning parts that need maintenance thus reducing the wait and performance of the combination. It would also prepare the product for "the future" where the power source of the drive train is no longer certain to be an internal combustion engine( could be fuel cell etc ) . Updating the machine would them be more easy , just change the power source. Reversing the cab would lose partly wait on 1 cab (lift arm would increase that) , but the view from the drivers cab in road mode would be no longer obstructed by the boom. There would be a chance to get a higher road line of sight by a more traditional height of truck cab , potentially making it more safe. There will always be blind spots on a big machine like this , but adding camera's and sensors would help the driver. In crane mode the cab could be positioned in a way that is non traditional ( because of the lift arm), and you would be able to get a different and maby better view on your lift. I'm no pro but this is how i see your product , working myself in the building industry and a fan of machines like this.

I would think it would be even more efficient to power the crane's hydraulic pumps with electric motors that are driven from a separate alternator on the transfer case. That hybrid system would eliminate the complex and heavy mechanical drive components. The addition of a small battery pack would possibly allow the cranes driven engine to only run when the batteries drain down or when the batteries alone cannot supply the needed power. IMVHO. Id love to work for Liebherr if they are searching for a design engineer.

any reason why liebherr didnt consider powering the crane and wheels via hydrostatic transmission instead? way higher torque, and much better fuel economy.

why the lond and complex second driveshaft? why not put the pump at the front and pipe it into the crane?

Easier to send a rotating shaft up through the turntable than to try to make a high-pressure dual-axis coupling, I presume.

That space is needed to store the boom when it is fully lowered to travel .

Very nice concept, the cost savings I would imagine could be quite high with one engine. Would such a concept ever work with the big boy 11200 though? Or remove the second engine completely from the 1750?

Generally it would work even with the "big boys", marksapollo !

+marksapollo Not a lot of cost savings when you think the engine maintenance and life go by hours which pile up using only one engine all the time. Liebherr engines are very good but also very expensive. Lots of extra service expense having one engine run all the time, this was the reason and sales pitch for the second engine crane concept. Also they "claim" a 700 KG weight saving but i question that due to the shafts are heavy and two 90 degree wedge gear boxes and what is all that replacing? just the engine, hydraulic and cooling system and fuel tank, most of which was calculated as ballast anyway. I have been on this crane several times and don't see the claimed weight savings, it actually feels heavier since they also require a electric system in case of engine failure with boom out that adds more weight. In 2 engine cranes just plumb into lower and recover crane no added weight. This system to me is like communism, works in theory but not so much in reality.

I always wonderered if they had one or two engines. Now i am wondering why it needs two sets of drive shafts. Why not just run hydraulic hoses to gear boxes to operate the crane. Less moving parts, less to brake down and less weight. If a hose breaks, it's much easier and much less expensive, and much faster to make the repair and get the machine back to work. Time equals money. Do i have to think of everything. one thing i don't understand is why do you want tge crane to have less weight? If you're lifting weight with a boom, you should have as much counter-weight as possible to prevent tipping. Yes?

Nice Idea but I would like to see a automatic lube system for all the joints in those rotating shafts . They must be hard to access and probably get little love . And they are the weakest link in this new design .
