Dan and I discuss the transition from Japanese street bikes to our Chinese dual sports, from the Tao tao TBR7 to the Lifan KPX250, and the value we see in each.
Then we recap our road trip and how the bike performed doing 850 miles in 4 days.

My Hawk has near 15,000 miles on it now. It's been nothing but reliable, and it's pretty much "bottom of the barrel" quality wise in the Chinese bike world. The KPX is definitely a huge step up in quality, and bikes like these along with GPX and Kayo make it very difficult to consider Japanese bikes, especially if you're mechanically minded and can fix/wrench on your Chinabikes. Great review!

agreed.. I love Japanese bikes but I'm having trouble justifying not buying two of a Chinese bike for every 1 Japanese bike :P

I just want to thank you guys for making all your content on the KPX 250, including this RU-vid channel, the KPX250 website, the facebook group, and for being active members on china riders. Your work goes to bring this sport to more people by giving important resources at an affordable entry point. THANK YOU!

Just ordered mine. 2700$ with a 200$ coupon and I'm in MT so no sales tax to worry about. Seems like it's going to be a heck of a deal and a good alternate option to a used Japanese bike.

Got mine delivered 3/27/24. Almost have my first 100 miles on it now. Really enjoying it so far for the money. Wanted a commuter/woods bike and something I can take on a hitch hauler when I take the family camping. If it keeps performing like this, I’m definitely glad I didn’t spend more for an xt250 or 250l for my needs.

Just ordered Black Friday Special $2999.98 delivered and fully assembled. Priced 300l last week but after all the extra freight setup brought it up to $6600, so I decided to start here. Glad to see there's a community around this bike. Only thing, i'm not looking forward to is valve adjustments, as I have never done it.

I mean at 6 grand you would have been better off buying a Honda xr150 it's simply a better bike and at less cost. And I'm a huge china bike guy it's all I have. Why did you pay that kind of money for the bike? I mean that in the most respectful manner.

I have a goldwing and I have a CSC RX4. Two different bikes. I had the CSC RX3 in the past. It was a fine bike but I could not ride on the highways here with the high speeds and high winds. I now have the RX4 which is the 450. We will see how it goes. So far, it is a good looking bike for the money and I expect it will be fine going back and forth to work. I just wanted something smaller for the day to day. But nothing compares to riding that goldwing on a long trip and riding down the road. I almost bought the Lifan KPX 250 but for $1k more, I picked up the RX4. More power, luggage, wind protection, etc. I hope it works out. If not, I will be looking at the new Lifan next year.
@dadbodbikers
@dadbodbikers Год назад
I thought about the rx4 too.. but actually plan to purchase an older goldwing (99 or so) to have for some wild road trips we have planned and the kpx will be our local trails and shorter trip bike. Best of both worlds :)

Love my bsr raven, i was planning on upgrading to a CRF, but with the 6-speed and true 249cc engine, i might just have to buy a new kpx instead of a used Honda 🔥🔥🔥. I wish there was a cheap US made dual sport, but all the American bike manufacturers are intent on pricing out the poors 😢

@@dadbodbikers absolutely! I only have a couple hundred miles on mine. I'd like to have a better exhaust, air filter, and chain. A little more aggressive tire than the stock ones also. Just enjoying the stock bike for now. It's a great bike for beginners or experienced riders. I'm still new to off road and have been thrown a couple times due to mud and water holes 😅. Have no idea how to hit those lol. Um, little pain but worth it. The bigger you are, the harder the ground hits you in the face. I'll get it eventually. I'm going to keep watching you guys for sure.

Are all the Chinese made dual sports basically the same? My buddies all have Dual Sports KTM, HONDA etc. I'm not rich and want to ride.. I know these type of bikes can't compare to their bikes but.. It is what it is.. I'm 5'7 and suggestions..Thank You For Your Time..🤜🏻⛈️🤛🏻🤘🏻😎🫡
@dadbodbikers
@dadbodbikers 3 месяца назад
The same? Nah, they equate to 5+ year old Japanese technology. The quality isn't always up to snuff compared to nicer ktms and Hondas.. and you'll end up doing basic maintenance yourself because they don't have a ton of dealers around. Worth it? Ya! At 5'7 I'd recommend a Tbr7 or magician 250 as a starter bike.. the kpx is much taller and may be harder to get started on. That being said, we ride all the same trails and group rides as those guys!

I'd suggest the kpx250 over the 200 just for more power. It is a taller bike too which will suit you well. I'm 6'3 and Dan in the video 6'2 if that gives you some perspective.

Carrying an entire extra chain? I’d think a breaker and a short length of chain would suffice.
@dadbodbikers
@dadbodbikers 11 месяцев назад
New chain is cheap. I had bought it to replace my stock one.. but was trying to wait on it to break. I'll probably slap it on in the next few hundred miles anyway and then keep the old one and some extra master link.

The materials used to build these Lifan bikes are of the cheapest available. They should last 2 years max....then the Problems start. In South America...Lifan is Known as "descaratable" throw away after use...products.
@dadbodbikers
@dadbodbikers 11 месяцев назад
We're almost at 2 years now. I believe part of that is maintenance, and we're on top of it, constantly changing oil and checking for tolerances on everything. Plenty of the TBR7 and Hawk250s have lasted longer than 2 years and these seem to be much higher quality than those.
