Leah Wanjugu went to the UK at the age of 9. Life wasn't easy there. But she is now a fashion designer with her work even being showcased at the London Fashion Week. She shared her story to CHAM's Media's Michael Tsimangi.

I celebrate you dear one! The beauty about life abroad especially in the UK, and USA, as long as you have the right documents, and the determination, there are so many opportunities! Just try your level best to not allow anyone to rain on your parade( it’s hard for some but many make it work), and are a great inspiration like you!! You go places girl! I do not beleive that she would have never succeeded had she stayed in Kenya because her talent is innate. She did well because we Africans worship whatever comes from outside. She got a platform that was facilitated because of her accent, being UK based and that catches attention in Kenya. I am not saying she did not work hard but we cannot deny that coming from abroad gave her an invisible privilege. I am rooting for you sis, keep it up.

Lydia N hi Lydia ...I appreciate your comment but success comes from hard work ..I did have it easy as no one judged my idea on going to uni to study fashion which wasn’t easy at all ...I struggled financially mentally and physically...my success so far which is no where near where I want to be came from hard work and my accent has no reason for my recognition on hard work ...as my sweat,tears and prayers paid off ..NOT MY ACCENT ...I appreciate for rooting for me but my accent should not be used as a factor to discriminate for my success ... Just understand life isn’t necessary easy cause I have an accent and am from abroad I have had to stress and cry for my success.

@@leahwanjugu2110 you worked hard and that is undeniable, I was just saying that we Africans love what appears to come from outside and it is a whole package. your accent is not what did it that would be silly and really not what I meant. Often times someone will produce from within Africa great fashion and may not get recognized but let foreigners pick it up and we are all running to claim " ah ni mKenya our sister, ni rwandese our brother, nimu Congomani our own personal person" just coz they got recognition outside. Yet the same hard work they put in. I hope I have clarified enough.

Everywhere in the world its hard work that pays but environmental advantages can be recognized and intelligently used . LEAH did . On the other hand she had challenges including limited family support but she made it. I salute you girl for the long tough journey. It has made you mature , confident, and successful. Above all proud of yourself and what you do. Keep it up and be an example t to other young ppl.
