Brilliant video, Rachael. You relate things so well here. Wish I could present videos as well as you. My experience after coming out at work as trans has been very similar. I overestimated the amount of hostility there would be beforehand and almost everyone was really supportive and keen to learn how to be supportive. I was androgynous and fairly femme presenting for years before I came out as a trans woman so I don't think many people were very surprised when I formally came out. I also had quite a few colleagues tell me that they had friends who were trans or in their previous jobs they'd worked with trans colleagues so that that surprised me too. I was convinced beforehand that I'd be the first trans person anyone in the office would have met. Similar to you, I also found that after I came out colleagues were much more likely to confide in me about any problems they were having. Thank you so much for uploading this because it will be really helpful both to people who are coming out as trans at work and also their colleagues. x

Thank you so much for sharing some of your story! I think enough of us talking about things and showing the next people to go through this it can be OK is so very important! Thank you again and take care x

I have so much respect for you Rach. If I had an issue you're probably one of the first person I'd ask for advice from.

As you said everybody experience is different and mine is as different as others. I didn't came out in the traditional way, but I preferred the Mc Donald's version "I came as I am". There was 5 minutes discussion with my team (4 people) and everybody knew other trans people end of the story. I work on a location with more than 5000 employees and nobody asked anything even my boss. It took a while to fix the name even after official change, but does it really matter ? My birth name is now my last name. I'm becoming very lazy on the gender performance topic, but today I find myself more feminine than ever.

Thank you for sharing your story! I was worried no one would tbh! Yeah my team was about 15 or so but we had internal customers which made it tricky.. and yes completely agree re name change being an "official" thing as long as people use the correct one! Thank you for commenting and please stay in touch :-)

@@RachaelRLE We should add one very, but very important thing. We live our transition at our pace, when the others (family, colleagues, friends) live it at another pace. Let time to play its job. I saw a colleague adopting my new name on the first day, when others took weeks or even months. When I said on the meeting after the Christmas holiday, that it would be fair that all use the same name, then they were surprised. Habit when you hold us. Ok, we work together for more than two decades.

My curiosity is has any Guy ask you out? Some of us men like big strong woman, you're not bad looking so you'd cualify as a desirable woman to date to get to know you, you know, to maybe start a stable loving relationship. I'd appreciate an answer to my question. Hoping to hear from you soon, Richard.
