William Kando Johnston discusses life and practice at a Sōtō Zen training monastery, Tōshōji, in Yakage-chō, Okayama, Japan. Tōshōji is unique as a training monastery in Japan in that it accepts both women and men, as well as both lay and ordained practitioners from around the globe for short visits of days or weeks as well as long-term stays of months or years. The abbot, Suzuki Seidō Rōshi, is fluent in both Japanese and English.
Kando shows images of Tōshōji, shares stories, and answers questions from the group.
