There is also a thing called dark forest theory. It's based on game theory. Basically, we can assume that primary need of every civilization is survival and every civilization keeps expanding, but the total amount of matter in the universe remains the same. So every civilization is a threat to all other civilizations. Civilization's intentions don't matter, because it's cannot be proven. Imagine that you and I are civilizations that accidentally discovered each other. Each of us can be friendly or aggressive. If you say that you are friendly, I have to assume that you could be lying and actually you are aggressive and waiting for the right time to attack. You have to think the same thing about me. Even if you are truly friendly, you have literally no way to ever prove it to me. So game theory tells me to destroy you just in case before you have a chance to destroy me. Even aside of that, we both will be continuously expanding and eventually will be competing for resources. So there is a chance that there many many civilizations even in our galaxy, but they all are hiding in the dark because every civilization that revealed itself gets destroyed - just to make sure that primary goal (survival) is achieved. I seriously think that it has to be considered before trying to contact anyone we meet in space.

in my opinion only a fool will think we are alone . we have millions of galaxies have billions of stars and trillions of planets . who knows whats going on there
