Paradox doesn't have Rockstar money or fan base, they don't have infinite money to pour into a game that doesn't have an established fan base yet like Rockstar does with red dead and gta
I get you're making a joke, but the premise is too flawed. Rockstar still has GTA Online, which is a ridiculous revenue stream, as well as a still-selling back catalogue.

I think maybe the game AI may still be developed as a base for nearly everything moving forward, but it's still a bad look. They hyped this game so hard, teased everyone with it, then ripped it away.
That's a shame. I wasn't a fan of how the game looked, but I like how they listened to the community and their dedication. And somebody needed to make EA uncomfortable.
@@pnkHonda so far, most people only like inzoi because of the graphics. The game doesn't have much else to offer so far. In addition, those who were upset about the system requirements of Life by you will be in for a nasty surprise with inzoi. It's going to really hit hard in that respect...
At least, they made EA start to listen a bit more to players, funny how they started to fix bugs reported by the community when Life by You, Paralives and InZoi were announced. EA at least had a call out.
"shareholders are holding modern video games back" HONESTLY YES and arguably the whole damn world These are people with obscene amounts of money already, holding everyone else's prospects hostage and it's infuriating ETA: I saw on LinkedIn that people from the LBY team have been laid off, so their lives have definitely been significantly affected
It's so sad, bc I know a lot of sims players would do donations so Life by You would end up being released. I mean, a lot spent thousands on dlc's that don't even work propperly.
@@envy2069 For real - or at least something. They gonna apply for a new job and ask what they got to show for it and all they can say is that all of their work was trashed and they got laid off? I wish them all the best mann
When I look at the requests people leave the devs, I could see them getting bogged down in details and not focusing on the core mechanics aswell, fingers crossed they learn something from this because EA really needs competition
I'm definitely more excited for Paralives than I ever was for LBY but I'm still disappointed about the cancellation. We need more life sims to compete with The Sims.
I'm on the Patreon and they're chugging along nicely. Early Access is going to be a bit bare bones, but it honestly looks like it'll have more then Sims 4 had in it's base game at launch. Their main concern is bug fixes and finishing enough animations for next year, since the animations are the most essential for a clean launch.
Those were also the days when people didn't expect 40+ hours of complex content and 4k graphics, so games didn't take a thousand people and 5 years to make!
You’re completely forgetting that those same games would be hinted at and teased at for months to years in gaming magazines, sometimes they actually came out and sometimes they got canceled. When canceled sometimes you heard about it officially and other times there was simply radio silence.

Tbh, I'm just kind of confused. Like they got too into the weeds on game details and now have run out of money? Did they get scared? What does this mean for stockholders and investors? It feels like this developer is floundering. I feel bad for their employees. EA partying it up today, I guess 🙄

@salagadulaemme Oh, like the horrific 2D characters in a 3D world like Paralives? Once they introduced that godawful art style as a choice, I'm not buying it.
They were all fired and the whole studio was dissolved with in 24 hours. This was not about needing to hire a designer during early access, like all these crybabies moan about. Graphics can be fixed in a few weeks but they were not allowed resorces, for anything. They even begged to be cut from paradox and finish the game themselves, but no. They were backstabbed my paradox and people bemoan the art assets. Shallowness is undoubtedly in vouge. @@maidenminnesota1 It's gorgeous and stylized and doesn't look like generic IMVU blow-up dolls like this one or the Sims 3 for that matter lmao. Get yourself some glasses for real
I’m very disappointed, but not surprised. There’s a reason why Sims has gone so long without any challengers. They really monopolized life simulators. Most companies are not able to shell out millions of dollars for multiple years on a game that may flop. EA literally released a broken and unfinished game - other devs can’t get away with something like that.
Every single pack without fail that EA releases are always broken and it's really beyond me at this point as to how they continue to get away with it. Maybe it's coz everyone's afraid that if one person starts then we all will and that will be the end of our fave franchise which is understandable unfortunately... 😞
@@sacher_tortetbh, I'm kind of worried that EA might have sim life games so monopolyzed that they can demand other companies for doing a sim life game. Even if they don't look alike to the sims, if we all think about a sim life, probably the sims would come to mind.I hate EA for buying and ruining it.
There are other studios that could do it. The problem is nobody wants to be a direct direct competitor so they try to make it more niche and unfortunately, Mitch is never going to the throne or you can come close to the original honestly another company would have a better chance of pretty much just doing the same thing a life simulator/virtual dollhouse game and that would probably find more success than all these other type of weird spinoffs.
I knew this would happen. I remember saying it on Reddit when the third delay happened and getting downvoted to hell. The warning signs were all there.

They say they canceled it because it would “take too long” to finish. But I’m thinking what they really mean is someone is getting fired and they are reviewing their teams because all the games they are putting out is not it. I’m so sad though. I wonder what rob is saying.
could also be a case of we got this (lots of small parts) but no way to tie it all together. Life by you felt like a game that could end up in developer hell.
We said hire some designers, not to shut the whole thing down 😭 Paralives is good, but I *also* love Life by You's wider scope. LBY literally just need more graphics designers & gameplay/UX designers. "The most moddable lifesim" promise was met: having access to the same tools as the developers to mod the game is peak modding. No hype? Did Paradox suddenly forgot Cities Skylines 2 marketing team & their incredible job at hyping up that game? Absolutely sad. Paralives is now back to carrying everyone's expectations again, and it's hard for one game to satisfy all Lifesimmers. Choice is always good. Variety is always good. Im absolutely gutted.
What? Modders wouldn't have the same tools as the developers. That would mean access to the source code. Actually as a programmer myself I always thought what they do is just silly and stupid. Modders want APIs. SDKs. Hooks / Callbacks. Modders want to script. LBY offered a GUI with some dropdowns and nodes. That's not real modding. It's fine for players if they want to mess around with the game objects or dialogs a bit but it's not serious, good, extensive modding. That's why for most big or interesting mods like in Skyrim you have to use inofficial Script Extendsers / Script Hooks developed by "hackers". If LBY honestly wanted awesome mod support, they would give us an official script API. I always had the feeling real modders will be disappointed of being forced to use a limited GUI instead of free scripting, and normal players would be scared off by the complexety and freedom of the modding UI. I don't get what or who they aimed for. I guess it was more marketing than anything else. I wonder if Paralives do better as they've started off as modders.
@@vomm Yeah, this "style" of modding feels gimmicky to those who know a bit about what makes games tick while still being totally unapproachable to those who don't. It also does everyone a disservice by not letting those who know what they're doing do their thing, and keeping newbies from ever really learning how things work or why the tutorial they followed did something a certain way, so they'll never be able to apply those methods in new and interesting ways. I just got to say, though, not _all_ modders _want_ to script, especially if it's in some obscure, ancient language. Sometimes you just can't avoid it no matter how hard you try. 😜
But Paralives seems to be developped by a small team and we have not idea about what gameplay will be available in Inzoi. I'm sad not to see any real competition for the sims yet.
noooooo i was looking foward to it so much...why would they just cancel it when they spent so much time and effort on it and was looking close to being an actual playable game....i swear there have been talks of sims competitors but none of them have come out yet...
it was not close to the playable game, unfortunately. They were in such a late stage of production that to fix issues with graphics and performance they had to redo the core of the game - so start almost from the scratch. They wanted to make game better than sims 3 and it was so so so much worse at the end. Also - thry had only one life stage. So for a real simulator they couldn't erally exist without old people and kids. So it's kinda level before even sims 1...
@@dashka-s-kosi4kami omg.. so the core of the game wasn't even 25% of the sims 1? like they overthought of everything but completely forgot code in the basics of a good life sim? like the age, personality, and careers?

Remasters mean overhauling models, which means new textures as well, and overhauling animations. That's the bare minimum. In the case of the Sims 2, the software they used to make it probably doesn't even exist anymore, so that's a complete recode as well. Basically remaking the entire game from scratch, so it definitely isn't "without putting too much effort into it"
I’d rather not, looking how incompetent new devs are, I’m afraid they will break them for good if they ever touched them. Plus the modding community literally have what you’re asking for.
i'd prefer just re-releasing them as the ultimate packs (ie, sims1 all eps + ea downloads included, sims2 + all eps + all packs and sims3 ultimate, all eps+ all packs + all stuff) with a few patches to make them run for win10/win11 with no need for Origin

@@nerdygem8620 That's their fault. Management at Paradox Interactive got complacent with rushing developers and forcing them to release unfinished games. The trend started with the launch of Imperator Rome in 2019. A Similar thing happened with Europa Universalis IV's DLC launches. Victoria 3 was also unfinished and buggy at launch, that was in 2022. This is what I’m saying we need like simmers / life simulator fans at this point to just work on a life sim game together to make a game that can actually have a chance competing against the sims. I’m so sick of having to purchase packs to access basic gameplay that was available in in the sims 2 and 3
Life by You was rough around the edges for sure, however... It was meant to launch in Early Access. That much was clear. But it had potential. Sure, it wasn't the prettiest in the moment (and compared to the others, even after a graphical overhaul probably wouldn't compete with inZoi or Paralives), but the developers listened to their fans. They worked with the community. They were open. I've never been big on Paradox Interactive, but I was willing to overlook my feelings on them to support this game. At the very least, LBY won't be forced to become a DLC hellscape like other Paradox games. I genuinely hope the Dev Team is able to secure positions at other companies, maybe even some of the other Life Sim projects out there... maybe Paralives' team could pick a few of them up? Not sure if their finances would allow that though.
It's just bad timing with Paradox. They mismanaged it's release, together with a whole host of other games. Life By You sadly got caught in Paradox's "Let release every game in our portfolio, ready or not" period - the same period that gave us City Skylines II.
I think is more of a problem they had recently with the release of Cities Skylines 2 being undercooked and effing up their entire loyal fanbase that took years to build. I think the higher ups are having a risk-aversion moment and panicking like headless chickens and LBY got caught up in the middle, unfortunately. On the bright side, we still have Inzoi and Paralives on the horizon, which are both on extreme ends and LBY would be the 'in between' of both, but its better than being stuck with only the Sims.
I hope they can repurpose some of it as some kind of interaction tree game or something. It feels like such a waste of money to do nothing with all that work
Yeah, since they are completely giving up on it, I would love it if they just released what they had right now. If they make it very clear that they are releasing it AS IS and that the game will receive NO support from the devs/publishers, I don't think people would be mad with it being released for $5-$10, and I think it could have at least generated some money for Paradox. Its not like the game looked unplayable or anything. It just needed some art direction and some bugs fixed. Considering the game is supposed to be extremely moddable, it could easily be kept afloat by mods if serious bugs do show up, and the modding community could probably do a lot to make the game better. Seems like a waste to me to just cancel and trash the entire project and never let the public have it, especially after they already did so much marketing for the game...
@@L1ght_7 You have to have servers and MONEY to release a game. Any game. At any stage. Regardless of maintenance and DLC. They wouldn't have made a single dime by releasing as-is because the cost of even making it available for download would outweigh the revenue. This is why they stopped lol. This is a business that was bleeding money. They made the correct, common sense decision.
they overpromised and thought they could handle the community but we are too passionate a people...with high hopes...and they just couldn't deliver the quality that we needed in the end...They did the right thing in my eyes
unfortunately i’d always thought life by you was doomed. it looked TOO realistic and so any uncanny valley moments like animation wonkiness would’ve been magnified, and I feel like it would’ve been hell to run on lower-end or even mid-range computers. I think they overextended themselves trying to do too many things at once
I actually found it hit the sweet spot of being perfectly in-between cartoony and realistic! Inzoi is the one that's HYPER realistic, which puts me off of it. Alas! We'll never see LBY polished to look better.
@@christabelle__ Personally I love the look of all 3 artstyles, all though I only like LBY theoretically. Paralives and Inzoi look amazing to me already, but LBY looked really dated, but I had hopes that they could lock in.
LBY by no stretch looked too realistic. It looked uncanny because it looked bad. Inzoi looks far more realistic and the animations are no where near uncanny to the degree lby was. I'll continue to be amazed the level of faith the sims community had in LBY and the disregard for games that had a clear structure in place like paralives. Im skeptical of inzoi actually coming out but even that has more promise
I really hope they keep up developing the game and release it in the future. Out of all the simulation games, this one was the one I was looking forward to the most. It completely fits the way I like to play. I also like the company and its transparency
As much as I dislike EA, the sims is the most polished game in the genre, even with all the bugs and glitches. The Sims are in their 4th game, which means they just need to improve the formula. Creating a brand new game like that from scratch ain't easy and not all companies have the funding for it, which totally sucks. I was hoping they'd be able to pull it off, buuuuuuuuut here we are, I guess. As far as I know, Paralives is supposed to release early access next year. Though, like some other people have mentioned, I probably won't stop playing the Sims, but I will still play Paralives when and if it is released as a full game.
New goss on what really went down! Turns out Paradox was spinning a story! One of the Devs even confirmed the LBY team was in limbo and only found out about the cancelation when it was publically announced. The articles name on PcGamer Former dev from sunken Sims competitor Life by You alleges the team had 'the rug pulled' from under them-despite outperforming the company's internal metrics While trying to find the post I came across so many by the team of LBY, they really were dedicated to that game and still hold hope.
I actually have huge respect for them for canceling it rather than releasing something that's half-assed and disappointing like EA did with sims. I hold out hope for inZOI.
It got cancelled because they bit off way more than they could chew. Using FREE Unity store assets in key parts of the game was a dead giveaway. That's also why the models didn't improve despite all the criticism and suggestions - the team didn't model them, hence no one there even knew what to do about them not looking good. Complete and utter incompetence and empty promises. Sad, because the idea was there. A proper life sim with huge modding support and a modding community behind it, it could've been the Sims killer. Now, probably no other studio will even think of going in a similar direction.
Wtf! This was the one new simulation game I rooted for! They could’ve dominated this genre given they trumped Sim City with their own franchise (City Skylines) I genuinely thought they were just going to do the same thing in this category as-well lol. They had so much potential, it could’ve been a really advanced Sims 3 like how Citi Skylines is low-key an advanced Sim City. They already have a background in simulation, I would rather they took more years cultivating and creating an in depth simulation game similar to their other franchise.
Small correction, Paradox is the publisher of Cities: Skylines not the developer. CS has been made by Colossal Order. That being said I too share the disappointment over the cancellation of LbY
LMAO, I kinda had a feeling this game was going to be DOA. It was so long in development and it still had not developed it's own style or voice. It felt very generic and unfocused. I knew it was over when they were showing off playing a mini game off of the sims phone. That kind of stuff is stuff you add after the main idea is fleshed out, not before. That is Yandare Simulator levels of Feature Creep. Clearly Paradox bit off more than they can chew and didn't realize a life simulation game is much more complex than a city simulation.
It's so wild to me how they wasted soooo much time and money tweaking all these extremely specific features that should come last in game development - perhaps even during early access - especially when they had much more pressing concerns like fixing the poor character and world design, finding a direction for the game's style, improving the ugly UI, working on the textures etc. It's almost as if they only worked on the features they were most excited about and kept putting off working on the big important albeit boring and difficult parts of the game
I genuinely feel bad for the devs, because imagine working on something you’re passionate about for a long time, only to not meet the standards that you set for it and the only thing to do is gut it completely. At least they were transparent enough to admit failure on their part. Best of luck to paralives
It's fine it got canceled. Also the studio Paradox Tectonic got closed, which is also right. This game is in development for six years and still used stock footage from the Unity store as character model in a life sim game. And it's obvious they had no (good) designers. I already lost hope in this game like 6 months ago. I think they should do the same with Colossal Order. Or at least refund Cities Skylines 2, develop it for two more years and then re-release it like Cities Skylines 2.5. But I'm happy they don't repeat their mistake and don't release another flop for our money. I know it should be Early Access but still it was too bad and unfinished. Planting ugly plants with ugly animations by ugly character models without queue is too bad, EA or not.
I'm so gutted to hear this! I have a theory that it's because they know a lot of people do not like the art style and graphics. I'm not a fan but was willing to overlook for gameplay but I know not everyone can
Disappointing but probably a major contributor. Something tells me it was also an overall management problem. If it were JUST the graphics, why not publish and fix later? I commented on their "open world showcase video", i'm sure it's still up, and i left a whole essay about how "OPEN WORLD" needs to have things to explore and things to find. It was jarring looking at their showcase, seeing just barren grassfields, with a random wedding venue just placed in the middle of grassfields. It was honestly an eerie, creepy empty open world. People replied that "it would be a whole different genre" if they made their Open World an Open World. Well, yes. Maybe a Life Sim shouldn't also be a Bethesda game. But if it's gonna be open world, at least make it good. Then they wanted to have dynamic conversations with 'quests'? So they wanted a Fallout New Vegas/Pillars of Eternity vibe too? For your first game in series, less is more. This game wasn't even a Sims successor. It was a "what if we make a game literally everything." It was probably a shooter too. but we won't know for another decade or so because no one wants to be the employee that gets blacklisted. But i think we can assume it was feature creep while ignoring the glaring issues (graphics) and management that couldn't say "no" to every idea.
I'd like to think they also don't want to dump more money into a game that has a very high risk (they aren't known to release life sims), whereas they could pour more resources into developing a game they know have a fanbase such as Europa Universalis 5
Life by you and Inzoi never really seemed appealing to me. There's a limit on how much I want to "play" or "walk around" with my character or family, and both of these games seemed to be too much micromanaging to me. The sims, with all the recent failures, still stays in a comfortable place where I can micromanage if I want, but the other sims in my family aren't doomed if I don't play with them. I don't wanna be obligated to do too many chores, buy groceries, etc, unless I feel like doing it. Life by you by the short snippets I saw was too much of a burden. Also, Life by you looks like a generic "make your own avatar" social game, like IMVU Still hoping for Paralives, even if it takes a while to come out, though.
yeah, and in an extreme example of micromanaging, imo, the thing that turned me off was their inclusion of real dialogue, and the ability to write your own. I mean if there's one thing Maxis absolutely got right, Simlish was a stroke of genius. You can pick the same dialogue option and line of gibberish several times but in your head it has a slightly different meaning each time. I absolutely do not want to take myself out of the game to write a script for a game. I get some people treat these games as if they are acting out little plays, but so not for me.
@@RayeGunn it's like you've never seen machinima simmers, or sim story makers. For them it was a great tool. It's ridiculous, hilarious, and borderline pisses me off that people want LESS features just because they can't imagine it being appealing to them and settle for more mediocre, but aesthetically pleasing lackluster experience. Not everyone wants to just play a cozy (paralives) or fashion (inzoi) game. Some of us actually wanted a full fledged thing that you could have played however you wanted. THAT'S THE DEFINITION OF SANDBOX
It's almost as if they are made for different audiences. 😲😲 For too long everyone even remotely interested in this genre have been forced to only really have the Sims as an option. It's as if everyone who enjoyed Escape from Tarcov, Counter Strike, and Call of Duty, were forced to play Call of Duty. Sure the Call of Duty players (thats you) would be mostly happy, but everyone else would be sorely not. Then imagine if the genre finally grew outward and Escape from Tarcov and Counter Strike were announced. Now in this situation, all the Call of Duty ejoyers started whining about how Escape from Tarcov is "too realistic" and "forgets what made the genre good in the first place" and how Counter Strike was "too simplistic" and how "nobody wants a game like that". You goofy goobers forget that some people do very much want a game like Inzoi.
I'm honestly not surprised by this, I kinda expected this project to die at some point. Something about it just seemed like a game that would either get canceled, or stuck in development hell
Corporations and shareholders really are holding them back entertainment now at this point pretty much the only video games we really get any sort of budgets or get released are established franchises and it’s just how many different different expansion packs loop boxes, etc. they can do. TV shows are all going to streaming method of only releasing a handful of episodes no more long long form versions of shows. Movies are pretty much only books , IPS and sequels at this point. Very rare for them to really try something unique or new. In music it’s just whatever they can push out as quick as possible. No more building up an album or an artist these number one songs these days wouldn’t even be a top 40 song on the radio a decade ago. It feels like they have just gotten so scared of having a risk of having 20% of things fail and not be good that they are now only allowing 20% of anything to go through that they know will make money even if it’s not that inherently good it’s pretty sad. And this is how competition and quality goes downhill hand-in-hand.
It's 100% because of Cities: Skylines 2. I loved CS1 so much that I preordered the ultimate edition of CS2, and the game was so bad that even I stopped playing after a few days.
this was 100% an engine issue. you can easily create a game where you can build stuff etc. in unreal engine, but to code out an entire life sim together with it running properly would be immensely difficult to create in unreal. they probably wanted to take the game to a place where they couldnt cause of engine limitations. the sims 2 took like what... 4 years to develop? the excuse is the engine.
im heartbroken this was my favorite one... i hope the team learned some valuable information and someone eventually can bring make the love for life simulation
yep lets see who else cancels before early access cause they can't take the heat and need to get out the kitchen and stop cooking. It takes alot to pull of great life simulators lets see whos got it in em..
@@Anon1370i honestly would be surprised if something from Paralives doesn't come out. They have such a small team, but they seem to have it. At worst, it'll be a build and character creator. Which is already all Sims4 is good for, tbh
I feel like they don’t have the money to keep paying everybody until they completely finished it, which is why they opted to scrap it all together rather than delay and keep working on it
I wonder if this is somewhat related to Bloodlines 2's development taking up too much resources. Paradox ditched the old studio for taking too long, but didn't cancel the game that time. Instead, they replaced the studio with a different one and entirely reworked the game using some of the previous assets. The new studio changed so much about the game's concept that the game has a very negative reception with fans of the series, especially because some people had already preordered it. The game is very likely going to flop when it comes out, which means Paradox would have wasted money ditching the old studio instead of waiting on them. (That game also had the same issue of the developers getting distracted by small details and not being pushed to see the big picture, which could be a management issue on Paradox's end) They probably don't want a repeat of that with Life By You, but what resources they would have had to wait on the project to progress have probably already gone to Bloodlines 2.
I don't care about the graphics, I don't care how long it would take. It's such a shame they are never going to finish it. So much work has already been done. I understand it's been too expensive, and Paradox wasn't willing to lose money for any longer. But I was so excited seeing videos from the devs, because they clearly loved their project. I honestly hope someone leaks it. Either the game, or the code, so the community can contribute, idk
lets hope they don't get fed up of the sims community and say fk this and close shop too 🤣we really are the devils but all we ask for is a good game maybe that is too much to ask for...when it comes to new sim games every other gaming genre gets their new games we just get old sims 4 forever...its like a dog being thrown an old bone...and having to make it last forever..
Between this and Paralives, I do have to admit I was more excited about Paralives. However, I was still looking forward to trying out both. I am most disappointed by the fact that there will be one less competitor for Sims/EA. I am so sick of the over-priced tidbits of content (that should have been in basegame or included in a similar expansion pack) they call packs these days in Sims 4. Even after all these years, Sims 4 still feels dumbed down from previous versions. We need serious competition in the life sim areana and I'm disappointed that one of the main contenders has fallen before it even started. I also feel awful for all those that put so much into the game for it to be cancelled like this. Bad form Paradox.
I'm scared for InZOI and Paralives now ngl. Also, InZOI seems to be a fairly pricy game to make, seeing it's graphics and open world. I don't know if they'll pull through. I'm pretty keen on Paralives though, the games been going steadily with it's updates and I hope they don't rush it. I really don't want EA to win once more.
Why throw it all away tho?? This cancellation feels more like to save face from their mismanagement and scrutiny NOT because they don’t actually have the capabilities to make a quality simulation game (bc they do). What does it hurt to devote 2/3 years into this project then come back and promote/release? Either: They realized they don’t have the necessary funds to make it up to its expected quality. They realized those in management made a serious mistake and realized that it would take significantly longer (which is fine, even though they’d let ppl down it’s better to take more years then completely throw away the project) They measured the pros and cons and predicted that they couldn’t compete with the monopoly or other competitors and felt they are just wasting money on a product that may not have a return on investment. (I personally disagree imo)
It's not the development teams call it would be the producers call. They will always error on just dumping it instead of putting more work into something uncertain.
@@Fizzypopization I really despise how current gaming companies’ execs manage and operate their games. They have rampant support from fans and social media for them to not think they would have a decent return on investment.
Paradox has been a mess recently. With the release of ksp2 and cs2 being disastrous, and the upcoming pa2 is also causing some uproar-- and of course Bloodlines 2. I don't think they'll shut down Bloodlines 2 though, it's too big of an IP. When such loved titles by trusted studios are completely butchered by being under Paradox, I don't think a newer studio with a new IP would stand a chance.
While it sucks because we were all looking forward to Life By You, I'd rather a project that just wasn't panning out properly be scrapped, shelved, or delayed than an unfinished or half assed game get launched when it shouldn't. Companies have gotten way too comfortable selling us broken and unfinished games and then "fixing" it with paid dlc. Hopefully Paralives works out because EA definitely needs the competition and we all deserve other options for the genre.
It's gotta be in part because of Cities: Skylines 2. Paradox probably lost quite a bit of money and now they're in panic mode cutting projects and trying to reduce risk. Paradox honestly deserve it, but shame that Life by You had to be cut because of their blunders.
Should have just sold the partial project to a different studio who would be able to take the game to market. They could have recuperated some of the list revenue. Very unfortunate. Game studios now adays aren't like how they were years ago
That's why you don't announce it until near release. It's something some marketers will be taught. I hope they still work on this and release it at a random time. Do what companies similar to Apple do. Make products first. Complete them then drip feed them over time. Like with iPhones and iPods. I believe that's how they did it.
I feel like the only bad thing was the graphics. However, the demographic for these types of games graphics and aesthetics are very important. Gameplay seems to be 2nd. 😅
Gameplay and functionality is tops for me, ill forgive the game lacking style and exciting furniture and architecture if there will be updates later down the road that will add more styles and exciting looking stuff similar to expansions and kits in the sims....As for the characters though, i'm not saying they got to look like Inzoi, but they have to at least look human, damn.... I'm not a very shallow person, i tend to love even ugly characters, but they have to be proportional and realistic, and by that i don't mean ultra realistic where you can see even their pores, i mean they shouldn't look like they're made of wood with birth defects......And when it comes to having families, the kids have to look cute, i want to feel like there is distinction between the genders and ages, not everyone looking like cavemen....
@@101Strings We literally have zero information about the situation behind the scenes. We also have zero information about how he ran his team. Until then, I feel bad for Rod.
@@101Strings 🤣🤣🤣thats exactly how it was say it as it is 😆maybe that was why he got kicked off from the sims...he would of made it even worse i unno just a guess
@@hehoihallowatfijn That's not true. Some of us have information, because we've paid attention to interviews with devs, videos uploaded by the team, and some of us have looked up who was actually working on the project. The team was shockingly small and inexperienced. You have zero information, because you haven't looked into it. Not we. You.
@@101Strings you still have zero information 😂 I’ve seen the interviews too. The team was small but so it the paralives team. You have as much information as all of us. Please.
I’m not surprised at all. They couldn’t even get basic anatomy right , let alone the ambitious ideas they had. It’s a shame though as the devs seemed really passionate and open. This is also an example of the pitfalls with announcing games early. I hope all the people involved are okay and hopefully the Sims will gain another competitor soon.
no way, paralives is full of bs rabbit holes. Inzoi looks shallow as heck. Life by you was trying to be an actual real game that could absorb you, not just an aesthetically pleasing shell of a game
I wonder if part of this is because InZoi was announced, because I was really looking forward to Life by You but when I found out about InZoi I suddenly didn't care as much for this since InZoi looked a lot more aesthetically pleasing. They might've seen that there were more EA competitors and realised not as many people were as hyped for Life by You anymore.
Ngl, I was never too excited for LBY as the art-style very much wasn't my cup of tea, but it's still tragic to see it shelved. I pray Paralives pans out better.
This makes me incredibly worried for Paralives, we all must show our support day 1 not matter what the game releases as. I honestly wouldn't mind if they charaged for the game's DLC because i dont see how they're making the entire game's post content for free while being sustainable
The game isn't free, the game will cost money. It won't have DLC tho, just free UPDATES. If that is sustainable...we'll see. Depends on how often they update.
I sincerely doubt Paralives will face the same issues and it surprises me that people think the failing of LBY is indicative of how inzoi and paralives will continue. The writing was on the wall from the jump, the game was never in a state where it was close to being completed. Their goals were unrealistic and it doesn't seem as though they had a good project manager to reach realistic goals in a proper time frame. They had 17 million dollars which is a lot more than what most devs get and there was very little to show for it. At some point they had to pull the plug
