Prayers for comfort and healing to your family. I find the garden to be a wonderful place to experience both the presence of God along with constant reminders that death always leads to new life! God's best work happens in gardens. May the peace of the Lord be with you all, and thank you for all of the wonderful products that Hoss Tools makes available to support the gardening efforts of many people!
Greg is that one row of sweet potatoes or two? Bug Buster II is my just about go to spray. Love it. Also like Spinosad a lot too. Glad you turned me on to all the Monterey products love them all. Thanks.
Here where I live in Southeastern Kentucky, nothing ever really seems to bother my sweet potatoes. I have a 30 ft hill of Beauregard sweet potatoes in the ground right now that are about 80 days along and all the leaves look beautiful and healthy. The only plants. here in Southeastern Kentucky that I get any real insect pressure on is my tomato plants, and my cabbage. Cabbage worms are aggravating as all get out, and my main problem on my tomato plants is aphids and white flies. Some years I get some tomato hornworms, but I haven't seen the first one of those this year for whatever reason. I have found that a mixture of Colorado potato beetle spray and neem oil together keeps away just about every garden pest. I'll do two or three tablespoons of the Colorado beetle liquid, and four tablespoons of the neem oil per gallon of water.
Ì watch you all the time and order seed from you at the first of the year. I have leptoglossus phyllopus bugs in my garden, especially my tomatoes. They have just about destroyed all my tomatoes. Can you tell me something to do to get rid of this bugs. Thank you. May God bless you and your family.
The most effective insecticides against leaffooted bug are broad-spectrum, pyrethroid-based insecticides, such as permethrin. However, these products are quite toxic to bees and beneficial insects. Insecticidal soap or botanicals, such as neem oil or pyrethrin, may provide some control of young nymphs only.
@@gardeningwithhoss Thank you. I tried neem oil, but not the other one. I didn't want to have to use something harmful, but I will get some and try it.
My vines and leaves on our sweet potatoes are turning yellow. I planted Beauregards and they are 100 days in. I will most likely harvest next weekend. Should I stop watering a week or so before harvest or keep on til harvest? thanks
Stop watering sweet potatoes 3-4 days before harvest. On a day when the soil is dry, gently pull an entire hill of potatoes out by the stems of the vine; or you can cut and pull the vines to dig the potatoes out by hand.
Use insecticides that contain Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), spinosad, or neem oil to treat young bagworm larvae. Bt is a bacteria that's safe for humans and pets, but only works well on young bagworms and should be applied by mid-July. Spinosad is made from natural chemicals and kills larvae slowly. You can also use synthetic insecticides like bifenthrin and carbaryl for older bagworms. When spraying, make sure to cover the entire tree, including the inside, and use ground equipment to apply the spray thoroughly. You may need to apply the insecticide multiple times, especially if the infestation is heavy
Several factors can disrupt the natural bloom cycle of Sweet Potato Vines, leading to a lack of flowers or poor flower development: Daylight Sensitivity: Extended daylight hours can prevent the initiation of flowering. Improper Pruning: Over-pruning or incorrect timing can remove potential flower buds.
