Rob Scheer shares his story of triumph over adversity. After experiencing abuse and hardship in the foster care system, Rob adopted four beautiful children out of foster care.
When his children arrived with trash bags as luggage, he knew he had to tell his story and create a way to help the over half a million children in foster care. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Thanks for sharing your story - that take some balls - inspiring 4sure. Lets all take a minute to think about ONE THING we can do, no matter how large or small, to bring love like this into the world and do it. Let us learn that the good and the bad bring us to the Fullness Of Humanity (FOH) and we can turn any bad into some good for ourselves and others... What is your one thing to bring love into the world???

I just watched a video about this guy and his kids. He has taken the absolute darkness of his own abusive childhood and used it to give a loving home to kids who were headed down the same path, without shying away from how the darkness comes for him sometimes. I wouldn't blame anyone who escaped that childhood for running away and never looking back, but he looks back every day so he can make sure other kids don't live the way he lived. Incredible.

Everyone who reads this comment, please send a prayer/good thought for me: I don't want to have my own children--- Im actually horrified at the thought of physically having kids, and my reasons are my own--- but to foster and adopt is a legit dream of mine. My husband, however, is a bit reticent. I grew up in a community where I knew foster kids and adoptees, and know that they aren't 'lost causes'; they are however just as Rob Scheer says in his talk: all of them are children who want and need love. But my husband didn't grow up knowing anyone who had been in the system, so he has the opinion that so many do, which is that any foster child you come across is irreparably screwed up. My husband has a good heart, and he wants to be a dad, but I know that his attitude towards adoption and fostering is just one that needs a bit of evidence to the contrary. I sometimes bring up that we should foster and/or adopt, and he quickly dismisses it. So please, pray for me or if you don't pray, send a good thought that something in my husband's heart will change. Every child in this world deserves proper love, and I believe that my husband and I can provide that. Thanks everyone. God bless Rob Scheer, his husband Reece, their kids, and anyone else who adopts and fosters xo

Reminds me of my Gpa, he was born in Louisiana was ditched by his mother at 3 he was found by a neighbor; my gpa was trying to steal the apples off the guys tree and took him to the foster care. My gpa will NEVER go into detail about his time there. He was never adopted he got out at 18 and started working. At 20 he met my gma coco, they are STILL together and he raised my mother and uncle and had two girls with my gma love that man

Thank you for telling your story. How anyone can kick a kid out at 18 and still in school THAT TELLS YOU SOME FOSTER PARENTS ARE IN IT JUST FOR THE MONEY. I SEEN A THE EXACT THING HAPPEN ACROSS THE STREET BY THE TIME I FOUND IT WAS 3 DAYS LATER AND HE WAS GONE ONLY TO END UP IN TROUBLE CAUSE HAD HAD TO STEAL TO EAT I WOULD HAVE TAKEN HIM IN AS I DID OTHERS WITH NO MONEY
