6:39 "The emperor penguins had started congregating on the sea ice before the onset of wint- WAAAAAAHHH!!! - and greeted each other noisily..." I was practically on the floor, lol. The editor definitely had a sense of humor (humour).

I wouldn't swear to it, but my instant reaction to seeing the guy holding the rope at 0:45 is that it looked physically like Sir Ed Hillary, who was part of this Antarctic expedition (and ultimately led a tractor party to the South Pole - only the third group to do so), he's also referenced in the crossword...

Ah, I'm loving these films from the Royal Society. The more I watch of these, the more I dream of one day being able to work there (or more likely, in any other archive of that kind)! Thanks for sharing, Brady :) and those guys must have been really freezing cold, their clothes don't look nearly warm enough!!

Would you guys make scans of the handwritten "magazettes" and menus available? They are truly marvelous and very well illustrated, their covers are so cool, not something I'd expect to come from a group of expeditioners! I'm very interested in them.

I'm heading to Antarctica mid-November with the British Antarctic Survey. Hoping to get onto the HI hall of fame, which is obviously much more important than the experience itself.

Yeah, as the Marine Assistant at the Rothera Research Station. I'll help out with their time series, and marine science programmes which involve diving, water sampling and maybe some expeditions etc. I'm going to start a little vlog out there too for anyone interested :)

No, not thick at all! HI= Hello Internet is the podcast Brady does with CGP Grey (defo check it out). On the podcast there is a hall of fame e.g someone took a photo with HI on their phone whilst next to Air force 1, things like that

Crossword spoilers: I think the given answer for 7 across (cochineal is one, (1,3)) is incorrect. 'a bug' fits, but I think thats just a red herring. If you replace it with 'a dye' then you can also have 'le' for 12 down (french article), 'anal' for 6 across (some people resent this kind of thermometer), and 'aa' for 6 down (two articles for motorists, init). solved it. just tweeted the solution to brady.

I would say that 9 down should be YEAR, which makes 9 across "UE" - "United Europe", perhaps? This was never an official name of the organization, though - at the time it was still the ECSC, with the EEC being founded in 1957, after the magazine was printed.

Brady, I love this channel, but you do this thing in a lot of your videos that irks me a little: whenever you insert other footage into your interviews, it's always waaaaay too loud. This video was actually hard to listen to as the volume level needed to make the talking parts comfortable would actually blast my eardrums when the movie parts came on.
