Привет из России👋 Если вы хотите увидеть еще более настоящую более суровую зиму, то вам стоит сюда вернуться ) И полететь в город ( Новый Уренгой ) Но находится на севере России😅)
I live in Moscow and feel incredibly safe here. One time i got really really drunk and got lost and a lot of people came to help, even thou it was my fault 🙈 they even paid for my taxi home, i wasnt robbed or anything, love people here❤️
Oh, I did the same for one football fan od Manchester united in 2008. He got lost and was drunk. He hadn't money on his phone, my English was really bad. But I was so worried about him. I helped him to get to train in airport
Back in 2012, in a club in Perm, resting with a company of about 10 people for the new year, we met a young man from Britain. He absolutely did not speak Russian, but we liked him as a person and we invited him to continue celebrating the new year at our apartment. We were surprised when he agreed to go with strangers to continue having fun. On the afternoon of January 1, he told us that it was his best New year.
I'm from India. Thanks for the video. I studied medicine in Russia for 6 years. These are the words I would use in my opinion (similar to how you expressed it in the video). I met & interacted with a lot of people in Russia. Grandma's & grandpa's in Russia are very kind hearted and generous people. This is one example I would like to mention. I stayed in the dormitory for the first few years of my undergraduate studies. There is a laundry service where one of the granny's works. She used to bring food for me sometimes because I looked lean. She used to give handwritten postcards during festival days. She gave me chocolate & a written postcard for my birthday. In my senior years, I moved into an apartment. Even though I hadn't seen her for a year, when it was my birthday, she sent me a lovely birthday card with chocolate (she passed it on to the hostel warden to give to me). Russians are hard-working people. Russians love their work & respect it & they do it with perfection. We can learn a lot from Russia (as humans). Sadly politics & the media made Russia look the way it does now. By the way, aside from politics, Russia is great. We should accept it.
Thank you for your kind words. I really wish more foreign people would visit and see that we are not monsters like media portray us and what polititians try to make us to be
Hi! Have you studied medicine in Tver? I'm from Tver, and we have a lot of medicine students here. Thank you for your kind words and greetings from Tver, Russia!
As a Russian, I must say that it was the current policy that made it possible for all your pluses to be present. I'm glad you have such wonderful memories🤍
Great information. I have lived in Vladivostok for almost 3 years now and agree 100% with your experiences. I have found that the government agencies I had interaction with were all caring and treated me with respect. It was a happy day for me when I received my permanent residence status. Thanks for your video.
Enjoyed your video. I am foreigner in Russia and 100% agree with you. Actually, enjoyed Moscow way more than big cities in the US. People are genuinely good, nice and friendly. Wishing you success in Russia and take care.
Same happened to my American husband he hated the return back to the states, he was shocked with the culture, the way people are dressed, how they behave, how clean cities were...years later now he still always talks about it, especially when he goes to any big cities, subways...the list is long
@@ifif7280 I'd say that describes my experience as well 😅 The US you see on TV is not based on reality. I kind of had fun shocking Russians with American horror stories haha. And I get it. I had certain ideas about what New York City would be like from news and TV shows. When I got there it was smelly, with garbage piled as high as 3 people at night for trucks to pick up just stacked on the streets in no containers. The subways, while the best in the US, are falling apart, neglected and look apocalyptic at some stations. I grew up in the country so I thought I was going to see "civilization" when I went to work there haha. I knew a bit about Russian history and that was my main reason for visiting plus the plane ticket was cheaper than Europe and I could finally afford a vacation. I didn't really know much about modern Russia so I'd assume I'd find the same crap I hated here but was pleasantly surprised.
@@chadbrewer6701 haha so true, funny you said how other can perceive US from the movies and shows....in Russia someone wrote a book called One Story High America, which was a shock from the name because based on movies you would think USA is all skyscrapers
As a Canadian in today’s world I would still want to still live in Russia, I have always wanted to live there. Long before everything started. Russia’s not what the media tells you. 🇨🇦🇷🇺

Thank you Rachel. I'm from Minnesota. We have a similar cold, gray climate as Russia does, in the winter. People from Minnesota are know as "Minnesota nice", and I think I would be welcomed openly in Russia. I have friends I have met through video games online that are from Russia. They were SUPER excited, even back then, when I could only say a few words in Russian. It caught their attention immediately, and they put in great effort to be my friend and they were excited to practice their English and to learn more from me. This gave me more hope to visiting Russia in the future. It has been a dream of mine for a long time. I have been learning Russian as a hobby, that will help me in my future travels. I hope to fit in well there, someday. :)
Спасибо тебе, Джереми, за то, что вы принимаете мир таким, какой он есть, а не верите навязываемым политиками штампам! Greetings from Serbia. I am glad that you like our mother Russia 😊. Serbia is the only country in Europe that is on Russia's side, and didn't imposed sanctions on Russia (although the EU threatens us with sanctions and isolation). You said that you could only travel to Russia via Turkey and Dubai. There is another way (I would say cheaper). To travel directly with Air Serbia. You can travel from New York to Belgrade and from Belgrade to Moscow, and vice versa 😉
@@RachelBlevins I'm glad I could help. I would recommend, if you come to Serbia, visit the largest Orthodox church in the Balkans and Europe, the Church of Saint Sava. I would say one of the most beautiful tourist attractions, definitely will stay in your memory 😊

I love Russia, and specially Moscow ! If you had lived in Moscow during five years, leaving every day from 9 am to 5 pm, you still wouldn't have had time to get to know all the good things this wonderful city has to offer. Russia is ancient, has a vast culture, history, literature, theater, cinema, dance - all of the highest quality - the cream of the cream (la crème de la crème)... and besides, the city of Moscow has forty percent of green areas. I've been to Russia seven times, I speak some Russian and study Russian regularly (in addition to speaking other languages such as Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, Italian and a little German), I travel a lot around the world, so I can assure you that Russia is really an amazing country, as well as the Russian people - a people who have a welcoming soul...
I am really interested in getting to Russia for multiple reasons, but the main reason is that I do NOT feel safe in the USA any more, and my biggest fear is my own government!!
@@CyarleyBlack yeah there is no such a data the safe test large city. But even if we look like largest safest city it will be Copenhagen. Moscow is nowhere listed as a safe city. That’s my google research..
@@freedomm like I sad there is zero data anywhere about Moscow being the safest city in the word. I am working in public health and that includes data collecting and analysis. Nowhere shows any Russians city being on list. Now, what I can think of is that within Russia is Moscow the safest city. But that is a different story.
I'm from Russia. It is very nice to hear good things about my country. We always welcome kind and honest people, regardless of where they come from. And by the way, about the climate in Moscow, Russia is a huge country and we have sunnier and warmer cities. For example, I live in the city of Sochi, it is the winter Olympic capital of 2014, a seaside and ski resort at the same time, the most popular resort in Russia, palm trees grow in the city itself and it is subtropical, +10-15 ° C in winter and quite a lot of sun. Be sure to visit whenever possible. There is also, of course, Crimea and some other cities on the Black Sea coast. There is sunny Krasnodar. If you are not tied to a specific place of work and can work remotely, then here are your options. Well, again, I just want to destroy the stereotype of an eternally cold Russia, yes, this is largely true, but not everything is so unambiguous!
In 2021 I found out through Ancestry DNA that I am 30% Russian and I really wanted to visit and experience life there. I was super bummed when everything went down and things got so political. I hope that at some point visiting will be much easier fingers crossed

Rachel, you are lucky to live in a wonderful city and overseas and have employment. I always wanted to live and work in Europe after I graduated from university, but I never took the jump. Now that I am 52 years old, I don't have the drive anymore to do it. I did live in Germany for 3 years while in the US Army (before university) , but it is not the same as being a private citizen. Thank you for all your great work and for giving all of us Americans the inside scoop about Russia, as well as the Russian point of view on American and World Happenings. Also, you are Hot! 🔥
" always wanted to live and work in Europe after I graduated from university, but I never took the jump. Now that I am 52 years old, I don't have the drive anymore to do it. I did live in Germany for 3 years while in the US Army (before university)" As a US Army veteran you should know that there many freedoms we enjoy in the USA and Germany that you would not have in Russia.
In Russian villages, you can still find an old house that nobody needs, buy it for a small price and repair it. In small provincial cities of Russia, you can buy an apartment with central heating at the price of a ten-year-old car from Europe. The only problem will be how lonely you will feel among people of a different culture and other interests. it is best to create your club, your community in advance.
@neutrino78x , Are you blind? Or are you just stupid? Maybe both? what freedoms do we have in America? I know we have more "freedom" than North Korea and China, but I don't like to compare us to China or NK. Please discuss....
@neutrino78x , Hahahha! do you think being compared to North Korea is a compliment? Let me give you a clue. The USA should never ever compare itself to North Korea or China. Please discuss...
I am Russian living in USA. I am visiting Russia every year though. I can say that I never heard of gluten allergy or issues with gluten when I was living in Russia. I think the demand for gluten free products is extremely low. That’s why it can be difficult to find.
Same about lactose intolerance. IMHO it is something about genetics -- 1 of 5 adult Japanese cannot digest raw milk, all Russians I have ever seen can.
Great job, Rachel! Thank you, a surprisingly balanced review of life in Russia and at the same time very respectful! In our country, people really speak English poorly, but this is compensated by modern technologies. In Russia, there is cheap Internet and mobile communication, which is available in almost any small village, so foreigners will have no problems with online translators. And also, what exactly a foreigner needs to know, be ready for this and not perceive it as something bad or disrespectful. Rachel, out of politeness, probably kept silent about the fact that we Russians do not automatically turn on the "friendly smile in all situations and when contacting any person" mode!In our culture, it is customary to first communicate with a person for a while, and depending on what kind of energy you radiate, you will get a response, but it will definitely be sincere, and not a template, like a seller who wants to sell you something unnecessary. 😀 So, friends, welcome, you will definitely not be bored in Russia!😀✌️
Funny you mention on the familiar spices.....I live in Moscow as an Irishman and frankly, I like nothing more than heading to the local globus supermarket and trying out the myriad of spices and seasonings available on the shelves. OK, granted, my Russian reading skills are still that of a 10 year old, but as you said, translator apps can be very handy. I have conjured many an interesting dish already..........One of my recent favorite discoveries was in the dried fruit section. Russians have amazing cold drinks such as Kvors,(made from bread), Mors (from Berries) and my fav, Compote, which is basically from a random selection of dried fruits. They sell a large package of these dried fruits that you buy and boil the hell out of, add sugar and let cool and hey presto, you have this amazing fruity heaven that permanently occupies my fridge. You can make about 4/5 litres from a 500g pack, so its cost effective too. Anyway, thats my spice and fruit story for today. PS. It's melting day today and very slushy.
Thank you so much for telling us about your experience of Russia. Voices like yours, speaking 'from the inside', from Moscow, are indeed so important when people in all the Western countries are now submerged under layers and layers of the most idiotic and horrendous propaganda about Russia, and the people who live there. I'm personally grateful to women like Eva Bartlett (who btw also lives in Russia now, I think) or Vanessa Beeley, who were reporting from Syria at the time of the horrors of the attempted US/NATO regime change there. They were about the only ones to post images of real life in Syria, of the real Syrians, and most of their reports and interviews showed a very touching reality that was of course totally absent from the Western MSM where everyting concerning Syria was demonized. I consider them simply all part of a crime against journalism and against humanity. Thank you for keeping us posted with real news of real people living in Russia! It is so important, so much more human that the propaganda we get from those media who toe the line. I appreciated your work on RT (and RT's voice among the Western media) for many years before all this craziness happened to us. Let's hope for some change for the better.
Rachel, I would love to get your opinion on what it was like working for RT. How you felt about working for a Russian state funded channel. How were you seen by your colleagues in MSM? How did you manage to maintain your integrity while several anchors very publically quit (on air- great videos) stating their reasons.
It doesn't matter what nationality you are. The main thing is to be and remain The Human. I am from Russia and I am Russian. And it doesn't matter to me if American, Ethiopian, Ukrainian, Canadian, Polish or British. It says absolutely nothing about the person. And even more so, good or bad. Never judge a person by his nationality and even more so by stereotypes.
I miss you so much! I loved your personal political/economic reports and RT America talk show. Thanks for making this video though - I was wondering how was your life in Moscow and I was happy to learn that it’s pretty much coincided with my opinion. I’m sorry to hear that you’re home seek - no doubt it’s difficult. It will get much easier in a year or so - Moscow’s magic tends to “muscovite” people for life. You have to get Russian friends though, they’ll change your world perspectives by redefining your understanding of friendship entirely - it’s so deep and so profound, that everything else, apart from a family of course- would seem shallow; you’ll never feel lonely again, especially when you’re down and out. I’d love if you can cover Moscow’s re-creational activities. I’ve heard that there was always something happening and something to do and that it’s rather affordable.
As a Russian living in America, I really appreciate your video, your point of view, your ability to think out of the box. Russia has been getting a really bad rep in the world lately, and I'm happy to see people like you who are able to see a little past whatever the mainstream media is selling us
Rachel is reminding me of myself. I live in Moscow alone for 5 years already and my parents and big bro are 9 000 km away from me in Russian Far East (8-9 hours flight by plane). I visit them once in a year for a week. So yeah, sometimes it's not easy to live in that way. Also it's a huge responsobility, because you're alone in almost 13 million city. No friends, no family and in my case no working colleagues. Just you, your job and a huge city. Good thing is with modern technologies we still have a connection with everyone. So it's not that bad how it looks. But I found myself in here. So, I wish you good luck Rachel with everything! You're not alone. You have many supporters worldwide. Take care!
@@rivaldealer1826 no, she should find Russian-speaking people, otherwise she will feel alone all the time, because of the separation from the society in which she lives. If she finds English speakers, then she will only communicate with them and remain an "outcast" of society, this is a big mistake for everyone who moves to another country. I've seen this several times, and as a result, these people went home because they couldnt integrate into society.
@@bubeni_ yeah of course she will speak with Russians more. But sometimes people get depressed because they don't have the opportunity to talk to somebody who speaks your native language.
Whether you feel lonely, it's a worth thing to make friends with local Russians, especially if you live in Moscow. Even if you don't speak Russian, a lot of us speak English, so it's not such a problem.
As someone who is nether American or Russian I have to say it's really difficult for me to get an honest opinion regardless of a propaganda especially right now. So thank you for your honest opinion, wish you a good luck and I'll definitely subscribe for more.😉
Wow, what an amazingly informative video. An insight into your life in Moscow and very useful for those thinking of moving to Moscow. I think, on balance, the quality of life looks good.
In all the ways I can think of Moscow or any regional capital city of Russia has a better true quality of life than in the US. Every time I return for a visit to the US I want to leave before my return flight date. The US becomes more angry, divided, dirty, broken and crime-filled every year. People living continuously do not seem to notice but going every 4-5 years the decline is dramatic. Even the previously immune suburbs are filling up with homeless all over in my native California. Health care is the least affordable in the world with only moderate quality, education costs are bankrupting whole generations, and crime is exploding.. Here in Russia, quality of life improves every year and that included the lowest income as well. Cities look better every year, services improve every year, quality and variety of food items is clearly better and cheaper. The health and physical shape of Russians is much better, 80% of American females are overweight now, here it is rare except for older retired women. Access to education and culture is far better. Leisure time, vacation, and cultural activities are available to all here and only for the wealthy in a few cities in the US. How many Americans can afford the $800 ticket to a mid-level opera at the MET? Here every school kid has free access and superior performance, venues, sets and theaters would be around $25-35. How many safe well maintained parks are in your US city? Probably none but in my adopted Russian city all 600 well-maintained parks are safe to stroll in by a woman alone 24/7. The police departments have been completely reformed here and corruption and police violence is not a problem, in fact, the last time police anywhere in Russia killed a citizen was 4 years ago while it happens often in US cities, thousands are killed by police every year. The services for young families are really impressive and a reason the first rate is going up. The anger, division, woke-ism, and cancel culture that ruins life in the US do not exist here. People do not get angry if you believe something different. The 182 cultures which make up Russia get along, There are no No-Go zones in cities here, you can walk through any neighborhood 24/7 and be safe. It really is a very low-stress environment. After being used to it for so long, on my infrequent return visits to my native California, it is shocking to see how stressed out everyone is, and how crushing debt is. The sexes, all 67 of them hate each other in the US but here they get along great and actually like each other, both of them. I have been in 92 countries and enjoy all of them but Russia is the least difficult to live a decent life in. It is easy and cheap to start a business, raising a family is low cost and low stress, with so many services for young families. If a family wanted to build a home or create a ranch they can get free land. People are not in debt. One simple example of the cost of living. My sister lives in California and to have internet she has to use Comcast, $240 a month. They throttle back speed if large files are sent. I pay $6 a month for unmetered fiber optic cable directly to my router at 330mb/sec and if I wanted 880mb/sec, it would be $3 more. My 6 gb phone data is $5/month, not on a contract. I just keep a balance so that when I leave the country for 2-3 months, I return and it is off but I own nothing and putting $5 on my account it turns back on in 30 seconds.. I have no need of a car so overall one would be hard-pressed to duplicate my social and cultural life in the US for any amount of money, that costs me $1200 a month that includes world-class cultural performances, dining out, clubbing, world-class museums, 300 of them, a few dozen jazz clubs within walking distance, gym membership, all modes of transportation are cheap, the 600 parks in this one city are all beautiful, open 24/7 and safe. Zero stress, severe debt, maximum fun an GREAT relations with some of the most talented and beautiful women in the world ....why on earth would anyone want to go back to the crumbling infrastructure, dirt, corruption, crime, stress and debt people live under in the US. Just college debt causes suicide every year. No medical debt here. No college debt plus a far higher percentage of the population are college grads. I do not even know anyone over 20 who does not have a degree or is in debt. Another low-stress element, the government does not lie to us.
I’m here with you, Rachel. Another reasonable way to travel between Russia and USA is through Helsinki. Bus service between Helsinki and Saint Petersburg is great (for example, LuxExpress). Once you’re in Helsinki, you can fly just about anywhere.
Finland is not good anymore, when it used to be easy by train directly to St Petersburg from Helsinki but now there is no train and Finland charges 296 euros for a PRC test, while Estonia charges 48 euros for the test. Fly to Tallinn and take the 10 euro train to Narva, walk across the bridge to Russia and after passport control take the but to St Petersburg so a family of 4 will save 1500 euros to get to SPB Starting in June a new easy visa program starts either visa-free or on-line application is cheap or free, any nationality for a stay up to 6 months It is supposed to start June 1 but the details are not world out yet.

Dear Rachel, thank you for your video. I’ve always been fascinated by Russia. I took some Russian language lessons at a local institution and am picking it back up. My question is, how easy is it to meet people and make friends in Russia? Do you find common interests with people there? Basically, what is it like to have a social life as a foreigner, and is it different for other nationalities as opposed to being an American? Thank you so much for this video!
I think that there will be no problems with acquaintance and friendship with Russian people. If people come to us with peace and good intentions, we reciprocate. We just look so rude😊

Regarding weather - I would recommend visiting Sochi in a winter period. I was on Black Sea coast for 2 months and had to take a flight from Sochi to Moscow and then back again. So, Sochi had the most comfortable weather in mid-January. It was like +15 degrees C, sunny, not windy, comfortable level of humidity. I totally liked it. And when I landed in Moscow, it was about -2/-3 degrees C, cloudy, grayish - such a contrast! And when in a few days I went back to Sochi - it was amazing change - back to relatively warm and sunny area :)
I used to watch you on RT America before it was sadly shut down, one of the few outlets which reported more factual news than any mainstream media. I think you made a great choice to experience the Russia you often reported on, for a true Journalist is one who reports the truth.
Thank you so much for this. I have an entirely new perspective. I have only been to Russia one time for a very short visit in 2017, and I wanted to go back to see a little more. But when the tensions rose, I got scared off. This kinda puts things back in perspective.
According to the Russian media, which was also mentioned on my channel in today's update, the Zelensky regime unsuccessfully tried to attack Sevastopol in Crimea using drones. All air targets were shot down by Russian anti-aircraft weapons, but the fact itself certainly indicates that the Zelensky regime will use the long-range missiles promised to the United States and the United Kingdom to strike deep into Russia, which could certainly push Moscow to use more extreme measures to neutralize threats emanating from modern Ukraine and the West .. This is a sufficiently relevant reason, in my opinion, for the Western countries to reconsider their position and stop their involvement in the Ukrainian conflict before it is too late.
Western propaganda misleads people. There is no clause on a preventive nuclear strike in the Russian nuclear security doctrine. There is only retribution. And one more point prohibiting the use of nuclear weapons against non-nuclear countries. The Security Council has no right to approve a preemptive strike
"There people here just like them who would be so much more kind and accepting of the them than a lot of Americans would be of Russians who go there" Thank you for that words!
Dear Rachel, thank you for this video. It's very important to have such a feedback nowadays. About the weather: please hold on one month further and the sun and spring will come. You don't really appreciate the sun and warmth when you have them all the time. But with such a contrast, you will appreciate all the joy and strength of the arrival of spring. And you will also understand that in Russia there are two different lives - life in winter and life in summer. Please come visit our St. Petersburg in summer!
Thank you for this very informative video. Life in Moscow is not as difficult now as expected, at least not for foreign visitors. I visited St Pete about 20 years ago and had the same belief about friendly people (in all countries) and feeling safer than many places in the US. Which bank still does transfers with the US? I had believed all Swift transactions had been eliminated. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Russian and Asian food choices in local restaurant dining that you go to or haven't been to... My favorite Russian dish is borscht soup but I don't do the sour cream to add it like my Russian close friends do... they do love Kimchi as they serve it sometimes and you always see Russian customers at the Korean Mart where I live buying that and also picking up on dried salted seaweed sheets and fresh fish for making sushi rolls... Would like to see some cultural events if you have the time besides of the great media work you do as a bonifide journalist - thanks Rachel for posting! Forgot to add the Russian style pizza is really good too... don't know if you ever tried that?
@@1966Gleb because so easy to learn Russian after all! Especially when you're no longer a Spring Chicken! Lol. I will do my best though. That Eli from Russia channel girl runs a language programme next one starts 4th of March so I'll sign up for that.
She is right, no dryers. Somehow there's absence of the dryers in Europe. The groceries are good. I'm amazed, this young lady put everything together so correct and so extensive in a short video. Good work.
you have a direct flight from belgrade, serbia to new york, and a direct line to chicago will be open soon. for those who confuse serbia with syria or siberia, serbia is a country in southeast europe, in the balkans.
Surprisingly, did not see any comments about how beautiful Rachel is. My wife is out of the house so I am happy to leave this comment here. And yes, thank you for expressing yourself sincerely about your life here in Moscow.
If you are an American of Republican views and you are not comfortable in today's America, then Russia, in particular the largest cities of Russia, can really be pleasant places to relax and restore your nerves.
Yeah, I remember that September, 1st in Moscow. It was strange even for me (I'm from Far Eastern Russia btw). At 31st of August there were around 31˚С and something around 10˚С at the 1st of September. What an accurate timing, autumn!
Hello! People in the West do not want to understand that the RF is not the USSR. Russia wants peace, not war, but it must have secure borders. NATO is now the aggressive alliance, quite the opposite of over 30 years ago. If you look at the reasons why Russia engaged in the SMO in Ukraine, you will understand. Hopefully, here in the West, we get honest leaders who can negotiate with Vladimir Putin in good faith. I am sure he is ready.🇷🇺🤝🇺🇲
That's painful to hear a comparison with Texas in terms of sunshine. That's a first place on my current travel wishlist. I kind of see that picture of blinding blue sky, reflecting from blue skyscrapers, pickup trucks, driving on a wide highway and a Jumbojet, carrying a space shuttle. I guess it's a picture from 70-80's, but still. Also it's kind of relative to a Russian freeze atmosphere. When it's -30C(-22F) and a bright blue sky and shining snow on the ground and trees.
I have always wanted to visit Russia such an amazing civilization with a rich history. It's shameful how the the Russian people have been treated and how they are depicted in the west. I will visit one day, it will be the trip of a lifetime. Stand tall Russia! 🇷🇺
Cool. Beautiful city and I think you are uniquely blessed to have the opportunity to live there. I would these days as Russia has become a great country, but there’s no way I could, these days. Even if I could there’s no way I could stay away from Texas for long! Lavrov seems to be a fan of the Texas Nationalist movement. Go figure 😂
I'm from St. Petersburg, but I have a T-shirt with a bear and the inscription California Republic! So I wouldn't be surprised if Lavrov is really a fan of the Texas nationalist movement.🤣
