Rural village life in Yakutia, the coldest region on Earth. Life here is completely unique to anywhere else in the World. People in the village 's outside of Yakutsk, Siberia (Russia), have to deal with cold temperatures like nowhere else. The lowest recorded temperature is -71°C (-95°F) and the average winter temperature, -50°C (-58°F). The local villagers have adapted to life in Yakutia and it's challenges in an incredibly interesting way and we traveled from Yakutsk to one of these villages, through some of the most beautiful nature on planet earth, to meet some of the local Yakut (Sakha) people, head inside their village homes, and find out about this unique way of life in the "Pole of Cold" for ourselves.

This was truly memorable. I wish I could give you a thousand likes. It's amazing to see how people live in such a harsh winter climate - completely adapted to it - living comfortably and happily. The long road though was both beautiful and frightening. So deep in snow, so isolated. Not a snow plow in sight! You made a wonderful video. I could never have imagined this way of life had I not gone there with the two of you. Well done my friends. Love to You Both. Suzi

It's interesting that in extreme temperatures (really hot/ really cold), people tend to be more accurate about their lives in general. You really can't mess it up or your life is in danger. You have to stay informed, disciplined, and collaborate well with everyone.

What lovely, warm and welcoming people you met! Fascinating to see where and how they live! They work hard with what they have around them in nature. Imagine having to cut up large chunks of ice to store for either drinking or other purposes?! We have it so easy in U.K.! The first film I remember as a young kid was Dr Zhivago and seeing all that beautiful, eerily, silent snowy scenery made me think of it and I was hoping for the sound of bells as the horses and cart arrived, oh and a young and handsome Omar Sharif 😍 You’re probably too young to remember that film!! I’ve watched two of your Yakutsk vlogs today, both really great and I thoroughly enjoyed them!! You’re both such lovely, friendly and polite young people and it’s very nice to see you interact with the people you meet! Your families must be very proud of you both, but being a Mum of a daughter who went travelling for a year and a half they must miss you very much, but at least they can watch you!! 😅(No escape from parents in this day and age!!) Look after yourselves Julia and Matt! I’m already looking forward to your next adventures…… 🥐🥐☕️☕️🥰🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️

Great video!! All so fascinating! You guys should show us a map of your travels in Siberia and where you have been. I certainly know where Yakutsk is and have looked at a map of Russia so many times, but I find when I watch videos or news from Siberia(especially), it is VERY HELPFUL for us foreigners(or me personally) to see a map too. Siberia is so vast and a map gives us some perspective and maybe easier to get a grasp of the space. When we can see where you are and where you came from and how many km, for example, you are from Julia’s hometown or grandmother in Sochi (with 20 degree winters). I also just love maps. I grew up with a huge map of USSR on my wall over my bed. (Born in 1973). Anyway, just a thought. Keep it up! Thx🌻🌻🌻🌻Love from Latvia❤️🇱🇻

One more thing that always strikes me about Siberia and that is how sunny it usually is in the winter. Here in Latvia the winters are very very gray. A full day of sunshine is very much appreciated. My son’s father lived in Siberia(400 km south of Krasnoyarsk) and he said it was sunny almost 300 days of the year. 🌞🌞🌻🌻🌈🌈

Totally awesome!!! Beautiful scenery words cannot do justice to. And the people, so warm and welcoming. I can relate to the folks we met here. My Polish and Ukrainian ancestry made it so easy to relate to them. I had aunts and uncles born in the old countries who reminded me of the people you visited. The first gentleman, living alone who built his own houses, reminded me of my 'Uncle Pete" who was ukrainian(russian). Only thing missing was the pipe my uncle always had in his mouth. there were points in the video that I had tears in my eyes, it reminded me of my relatives. Thank you so much for helping me reminisce. the countryside was so beautiful and at the same time, so treacherous. The underground cellar, like our root cellars but not as cold to keep ice fresh. Amazing. On a lighter note, we have to watch Matt closely now, since he seems to know how to handle an ax.😅🤣 Thank you for bringing some smiles to us. Be safe and stay warm (hahaha) (P.S., don't eat yellow snow)

You "fit in" wherever you go. As I see the faces of the people you interface with in each of your visits, it makes me think about the people and their heritage. Who are they, where did they come from and when did they arrivee. In the US we have all read about the "historic" nature of Siberia as well as its contribution to culture in the America's. Not too long ago remnants were found of 17 Neanderthals in Chagyrskaya cave, Siberia. The remnants were dated to 54 thousand years ago and DNA testing reports they were likely to have been from one family. Neanderthals and others have resided there for more than 100 thousand years. In spite of sometimes horrible weather conditions, Siberia has been a melting pot for people of many races. Thanks for the video.

Did Julia eat all the offerings to the spirits or just the first offering? 🤔🤣🤣 That was hilarious. I've been as far as Ulan Ude, but this looks next level. Great vid.

The personality of the people in Yakutia is so different from people in the rest of Russia. So much laughter and smiles and a cheery nature you don't see in the normal stern-faced Russian.

How good was that😊 Stunning landscape matched by interaction with a beautiful family. I soooo much wanted to pat the doggo & give her an ear scratch. as for the toilets....less said the better but unfortunately the image of Matt trying to do a No1 can't be unseen😂
