Oh that broke my heart when she had to say goodbye to her daughter! They should be able to live in an apartment together on the base and have childcare. As much as she's won for that country, in the Olympics AND World Championships, that is not much to ask. These male gymnasts who are much older have families too.

I see what you mean, but I don’t think “bleak” is the correct word imo. I think it really demonstrates the monotonous and the grueling hard work that is needed in order to succeed in such a competitive sport. We often see the glamour of it during competitions, but the work, the hours, and effort that goes into it is anything but. A similar analogy would be to ballerinas feet when they take off their beautiful slippers and shows the beaten down, damaged, injured feet that are beautiful, but realistic.

Why do some people believe that she must give up her dreams to be a full-time mother? She is first a woman and is a complete individual, with dreams and with goals, this was her job and training for the Olympics was what paid her debts, so why do they think that all that should be reduced so that she can dedicate herself to being a mother? No, this is not about her being negligent with her daughter, if she had a more common job, she would have to work exactly the same (or more) and none of you would be complaining, you just do not like to see women being successful other than being mothers and that is sexist.

I'm just happy that women's artistic gymnastics actually has more women competing. Though I loved Nadia, her triumph resulted in decades of girls being championed in the sport and with that the abuse. The Romanian, Larisa Jordache, is back competing well on each apparatus. I think specialization has helped many older athletes remain in the sport. Also, Simone Biles seems to inspire them with her continued upgrades on each apparatus. In the past, as athletes aged, routines were watered down. But now these women can see what's possible even after giving birth since Aliya is training on each apparatus.

Alice S - I was just alluding to the idea that perhaps Aliya and Chellsie took their cues/inspiration from Oksana Chusovitina, Larisa Latynina, Leyanet Gonzalez or Suzanne Harmes who defied the odds before them. Chusovitina in particular (why I specified only her earlier), considering she competed in TWO Olympics before gymnasts like Simone Biles were even born (1992, 1996), and FIVE Olympics post-motherhood (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 2016). And this is not to discount Latynina, as older gymnasts were the standard in her day. It was the 5 Olympics between 1980 and 1996 that the average age was crazy-young, before and after that athletes’ average ages have been older by comparison.

people you dont realize that for the documentary people didnt wamt to be in the video so when shes training or at. home im sure she doesnt just sit and stare at walls or train in a completely empty gym. and as far as her relationships she probably doesnt like talking about it it probably makes her sad or angry and it isnt anyone's business. if the dad doesn't come around thats on him and if he does well then let them be. he also probably didnt want to be mentioned and she respects that. you. notice her parents arent in the video either. so relax with the assumptions

Oh the gym is VERY packed on normal days (not sure during this pandemic). Denis Ablyazin of the MAG team also trained there. I remember seeing an interview with both Aliya and Denis on a normal training day on the gym and there are lots of other gymnasts training there.

Thanks for this! She's one of my favorite gymnasts and the American commentators--I'm talking about you, Tim and Elfie--malign her so much with their little commentary..."diva" and the like. So great to see her as a regular person, and so awesome that she's got so much support from her parents. Go Aliya!

Firstly, Elfie has been gone for a while, and Daggett has cooled his insults that were directed at Russian girls now that his co-commentator, Anastasia Liukin, is of Russian heritage. I would imagine that when she first started, she may well have made it a point off camera that he discontinue his snotty snipes.

@fortheloveofcats2462

Not really, anymore. There are actually many gymnasts who came back after giving birth- Oksana Chusovitina is a living legend, Chellsie Memmel has recently come back at 32 and performed well in US nationals '21. Larissa Latynina actually became a world champion when she was 5 months pregnant. It's impressive but not unique to Aliya
@freshname
@freshname 3 года назад
@@fortheloveofcats2462 Latynina? Who else? Somebody straight from the Stone Age? Past (un)fortunately remains in the past. Today is today. Not that many female gymnasts' careers survive their teens let alone motherhood.
@fortheloveofcats2462
@fortheloveofcats2462 3 года назад
@@freshname Latynina was 5 months pregnant when she won multiple world championship medals. I get that the gymnastics of that time was different and she wouldn't have medalled if she were to be competing in this decade, but nevertheless her feat is impressive. Not many athletes of any time period have actually been in the prime of their fitness while pregnant. And you have Oksana and Chellsie who are older than Aliya who're still doing gymnastics while Aliya has retired. (At least for now, if she comes back, she comes back)

First of all, the video represents what is needed : Simplicity to accomplish Greatness. On the other hand, the consequences of such a lifetime of hardship have molded her personality so much that her look seems sad. I do not think she is sad but determined and in self-control. What I really suspect is that she may be very lonely.
