Good stuff enjoyed hearing from Charles he offers a different angle on the Colonel and great insight into the concerts and Elvis. I'm not one of those who blames the Colonel for everything just because I don't like something Elvis did. Elvis career was a success not a failure.

Great interview as always Steve . Its great you had some laughs in there towards the end. Wow what he said about the colonel and they even preparing for one !!! And he said colonel was going to stay behind , why did the mafia mention this or anyone in their book or on T.V. I think it could of been 'reverse psychology ' on Parker, I don't want to bring down what Charles said. We won't know now as most of guys are gone except Billy, he would know. I've never said I hate the colonel its a strong word I don't like to use, I do think he knew what to do to make things happen, the merchandise as well, we know Elvis got sick of the movies but also you have to say colonel got half of what Elvis made, it was business. I remember reading years ago not sure if its true but on a couple of occasions Elvis locked horns with the colonel, can't remember what it was about, you probably know Steve That was a surprise, I've been watching some elvis documentaries on Amazon Prime and in them there were some.ive already see when talking with the memphis mafia, there were bits on some I've not seen and lamar fike hated the colonel and he was on about him saying about Parker been an illegal alien, he blames Parker for his part on Elvis who had terminal apathy and sonny stopped him and said I'm not singing parkers tune so to speak but he was worried about the drugs and the guns, ya can't have that stuff in England and Lamar said he would of changed to get there as he would of been excited to go to England. Was it mentioned in Alannah Nash book, ? Have you read it Steve.

Awesome interview once again Steve with Charles thank you. He certainty changed my opinion on Tom Parker. I think because none of us were there its really nice to get a truthful opinion from someone who worked not just really close with Tom Parker but also with Elvis. Its not just Charles who has spoken highly of Tom Parker, Pracilla did, Jerry, Charlie did. I guess we will never know the full truth especially as the memphis Maria were so divided when it came to Tom Parker, they only person who would be able to set the records straight sadly is no longer with us. Tom Parker was certainly a very good manager and kept Elvis at the very top, exactly where he should of been, the one thing I do have a problem with is him taking 50% of what Elvis made be it in movies, music, merchandise etc. There have been several people whom you have interviewed recently and each one of them have said that if Elvis didn't want to do something, then he wouldn't do it regardless who was asking. If only he would of come to the UK how special that would have been. Elvis playing Wembley, wow could you imagine. I wouldn't of got to see him as im only 52, or at least I will be in July. I keep saying I was defiantly born in the wrong era. Take care, ho to all fellow EP fans, I hope everyone is safe and well jackie.

The interviewer is mixing up Wembley Stadium and Arena. Charles says they wanted to book the Arena, it's the indoor facility that holds 15K. Would have been a good venue for Elvis - 7 days in a row.

Management 111 Ltd "Jerry Weintraub" did the first tours of 1970. Concerts West "Jerry Weintraub"…. did the tours in 1971. Jerry Weintraub and R.C.A. Tours did the tours in 1972 and R.C.A. Record Tours did the tours in 1973. The reason I know this is from my Elvis ticket collection from 1970 to 1977.

@Flora Braswell ~ You can’t be serious! Elvis didn’t need the colonel! He was a cultural icon all by himself! He totally changed the culture of music and history ALL ALONE!! The colonel was a crook, illegal immigrant, a total conman and used Elvis by stealing half of his hard earnings for his own selfish gambling habit! Elvis would’ve been better off with ANY OTHER AGENT and maybe still alive today!! And of course Priscilla liked the colonel. She was and still ( and her whole family) is living off of Elvis all the while pretending to be his widow. She’s just an EX-WIFE and a very wealthy one!

With all due respect this man wasn't around Elvis or the Colnel long enough nor closely enough to say what Elvis felt about the movies or the Colnel. He worked on tours in the 70's he wasn't there in the 50's or 60's. 7 years booking tours doesn't give him any inside information as to their private relationship. Everyone around him spoke of his frustration with movies, music and the Colnel. Of course none of these employees could tell Elvis what to do. His manager was a different story and controlled his career, instructed him how to interview, his role in the army, and music was mostly chosen based on publishing rights being shared. Elvis for whatever reason allowed this. Never has anyone close to him mentioned a tour to the UK. So many stories of what his plans were. One said going all Gospel, another says marrying Ginger, now a tour to the UK. His cousin Billy Smith most certainly would have known of a plan like this.

@@Elvisultimatefanchannel Steve, I meant no disrespect to you or the channel. I appreciate hearing everything Elvis but I take alot with a grain of salt. I simply stated my opinion on how knowledgeable this man was with regard to movie years and Elvis private relationship with Parker throughout. The man had many sides as we know so he may not have revealed his conflicted feelings to a tour employee. He could compartmentalize things when he needed to show a unified front. He was very smart that way. Thanks for all you do to keep his name alive.Vicki

Trying to imagine Elvis playing Wembley Arena 7 days in a row in 1977 or whenever he was play there - did he sign a contract? No question it would have been a massive event but lets not forget this was the Elvis of the CBS Special that everyone wants buried because it doesn't show him at his best. Personally I love Elvis of that period and enjoy watching the Special and think his voice was better than ever before.. but if people are afraid of him being critised after death for something he agreed to do and had no problems doing then what kind of critisms would he have got for putting on a similar show in a similar condition when he was alive? They don't even use footage of him from that period when they do the live concerts with the TCB band and Orchestra. He sells out the 02 Arena as a projected image of a man who was dynamic highly energised performer. They don't show the 42 year old Elvis that image they have buried because it doesn't sell merchandise.

What a great post. I've watched Freddie Mercury at the age of 40 with HIV and five years away from death do Live Aid with Queen in 1985 and completely owned Wembley that day. His energy level was off the charts and his performance is legendary. Elvis would have been 42 and there's no reason to believe he would have done a better job than he did on the CBS Special. The window of opportunity had closed for Elvis on Wembley so it's irrelevant if the Colonel wanted it or not.

Another great interview, thanks so much. What do you think though? Why is Charles Stone's story so different than everyone else's? It took them 2 years to "talk Elvis into wanting to tour" overseas? No one else says that, not even Elvis. At the MSG press conference he says he wants to go to England and Japan, and everywhere. Even when he was going into the army, he said he looked forward to Germany because he planned to go there on tour anyway. Why would he say that so early on if he didn't want to? It sounds strange to me.

Wembley Arena is not Wembley Stadium, I remember seeing Dire Straits at Wembley Arena around 1986, it's an indoor stadium as opposed to Wembley Stadium where the football is played and Live Aid took place, Charles likely got mixed up which often happens with Wembley gigs, I've heard many artist's say over the years that they 'Sold out Wembley 7 days in a row', they're being misleading on purpose, Elvis could sell out Wembley Stadium for a month though.
