Hey guys!! I have lived in Wisconsin for 45 years. You are so right. The last 2 years have been brutal for Winter. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WISCONSIN WINTERS!! If it was I would have to move. We are truly blessed to have all 4 seasons here. You stated about being in the house being patient and kind. So true...but the awesome thing is we are actually taking the time to be with each other. So many states people are on the go and dont have that close family time. So, even though this Winter sucks we are truly blessed. Think Spring, rummage sales and good times...it's coming!! 😊

We enjoy the cold weather (as long as we have all the stoves going and all the animals are tucked away in their fur coats and straw beds :). We love the clear skies that come with the cold! People from Wisconsin don't start to huddle inside until between 30 and 40 below. At -25, schools are still open, stores are open, people go skiing, ice skating, walking the dog, building Snowmen, and ice fishing. We sometimes hide inside in August though, when it's in the 90's and humid outside. Most of the summer is in the 70's to low 80's. FALL is the best season though, with 60's and 70's in the beginning of September to the 20's and 30's by Halloween, so it's sweatshirt season. The leaves changing colors is a magical time too, with tour buses of "leaf peepers" from all over the country..

Since I'm retired, I hibernate. In February my garage door was frozen down for about three weeks and when I finally go the garage door open the battery was dead. In October of each year, I stock up on enough to get me through most of the winter. Currently I haven't shopped since January 16. My total February grocery spending (at local expensive store) was $11.35, spending for miscellaneous was zero. Cost to have drive plowed out $100 in February. I dug out the front sidewalk 3 to 4 foot drift only a shovel wide and it took me over two hours. The rest will have melt whenever Spring finally arrives.

I'm sorry - this went to an old email address. Yes! The light I have has LED bulbs. It has more spectrums of light than a regular bulb. You will need to research and see what works for you - price wise and time wise. I sat mine next to my work computer monitor...it as a timer. I used mine every day the sun didn't shine and it did make a difference. I also exercised at lunch time three days a week with a neighbor. I had to go to her house so it forced me outside lol I was also more diligent about taking Vit D. Altogether I had a much better winter...it snowed today lol so I guess it's not over yet! Blessings...

We lived in the Canadian arctic for a few years, the average temperature was -20 With 24 hrs of darkness for parts of the winter. We had a huge wood stove in the middle of the house to keep it warm, plus I could do some cooking on it if the power went out (which happened often). We had to move back to the states (medical reasons for our youngest), we still miss it. We miss the winters especially. I've been in Wisconsin for about 10 years now and the winters are crazy. We lost all of our heat during the Polar Vortex and it was COLD.. .colder than cold. I'm looking forward to spring, but there have been several years where we are still wearing gloves in May. If I can keep my hands, feet and head warm, I can handle it. I wonder what summer will be like? I'm looking forward to warmth, but not looking forward to a scorcher. I hope we have a beautiful winter, but not bitter cold like this year and last year. I don't mind the snow because it is a little warmer when it snows. The wind and cold are far worse than the snow, IMO. Of course, I work from home so I might be a little jaded. I live in a cute little manufactured home, but am so grateful we haven't had any roof issues. I can't get up there to clear it off. Someone... an unknown person... has come by to do my drive several times. I don't know who this mystery person is, but I feel so blessed. Many people up here need to take Vit D. I take an Rx Vit D from doc because it was so low. It really helps to have it at normal range mentally and physically. During physicals, I would have it checked.

Brad, I don't know if you watch "Wranglerstar Videos" or not. The reason I say this is, he built a cheap hand held unit that had wheels and an apron in it and you put it at the base of your roof and as it goes up, it cuts the snow which follows the apron down and you can take the snow off the roof seemingly easier than lifting the snow drag unit like you and PSB were using the other day to the "TOP" of the roof and pulling the snow off the roof. Give a watch to his video if you have not already seen this piece of home made equipment that actually works pretty well.... Just my .02 cents..

I may have mentioned this in the past. My 4th and 5th grade teacher in a Fondy elementary school was from FL. I believe she married a snow bird, a construction worker from FDL. This was in the mid 60's. She'd never encountered snow before. She was my best grade school teacher. Currently, I've a nephew and his wife who live in Titusville, he's from Fondy and the wife's from Wichita. Last summer one of his sisters moved in with them, to gain a fresh start. Well, it didn't take long for the FL heat to wear her down. This coming spring, brother is driving her back to the Fox Valley! Perspective, everyone.

I left Ohio when I was a kid, and I am very grateful for it. I have lived in Texas for a short amount of time and then on to the Caribbean, ending up in Arizona (Dad was in the military). I could not live in a climate as you do. I've been a desert rat now for 50 years - I will continue to endure our hot summers here anytime over being cold. It actually snowed here last week for 7 hours, all melted and gone by the next day. The mountains were beautiful snowcapped. It has been down to freezing here as every winter brings but mild in comparison to where you are. I have been to the furtherest northern point in Alaska (Barrow) in early June where the high was 28 degrees with a wind chill out where the Polar Bears roam. Was a memorable trip and yes I was outside of the tour van walking around finding bones and arctic rocks. I do have much respect for all you are doing - living the life you choose and love watching your videos and cooking shows. I'm so glad to have found you down to earth, fantastic real people. Have a great day and stay dry and warm.

I stumbled on this. I’d add that the winter weather also depends on where in the state. Southeast near the lake has milder, warmer winters. The closer you are to the lake, the warmer it is in winter (and cooler in Spring/summer). And city streets are plowed very well. Many years we don’t have any school days canceled.

This is the type of winter that only comes around once every 10 years or so....there are mild winters here! Yes, you need to absolutely have the proper clothing. Warm head-gear is important too-it is said that 90% of your body heat goes out the top of your head. Essential areas to keep warm: body core, feet, hands & head. Winters like this build hardiness in our people, flexibility, and life-perspective. Attitude is huge! Pull up your bootstraps and no whining about being a northerner :) Having to deal with all of this together I think is the foundation of our "Minnesota nice"!

You have to set aside the extra $$$ to have someone plow your drive and/or clean off your roof. Making sure any vehicle is good in the snow is important. Too light of a vehicle and you will be slip sliding all winter.

It was 20 below this morning in Northwest WI and our driveway is shrinking with every storm! But here is the cool thing, spring is just around the corner! I remember planting trees last year in short sleeves, and thinking, "wow, it has only been four weeks since we were stranded in another town in a blizzard!" Animal chores certainly take longer, but the thing that really causes problems for us is when we need to do vehicle repairs. Since it has been so very cold lately, it makes it hard to work on the cars in an unheated garage. Spring is coming and it is going to be so appreciated when it gets here. There is something rewarding about getting to that point and saying, "We did it. We stared winter in the face and we beat it!" And by the way, there will be no snowstorms in April/May this year! Stop saying such things :-)

I think that I have a little bit over 26 years of winters in Wisconsin. Sometimes winters are pretty mild and little bit snow fall. I remembered on winter lasted till early May in 2018. So far winter has been mild during December and January this winter. I do wear layers of clothing when it is freezing cold. I take off my winter coat in my vehicle because of a remote control from my iPhone. Even one winter it went to summer earlier one year.

Same for my sister. Her biggest problem is winter wardrobe. You do need to invest in insulated boots, gloves, and coat. Thin pants appropriate in Florida will be like wearing nothing on your legs! Plan on spending at least $500 on new clothes, $1,000 is more realistic. Ask a native about best sources and products. My sister bought long underwear but it wasn’t the right kind; research everything. Also plan on “Wisconsin Nice.” My sister was shocked at how polite and friendly retail workers are. Same with medical; she’s been surprised how thorough medical personnel are.

Hello from New Hampshire. -20 ain't bad. Try -40 (actual temperature)! As for driving, i only run 4-wheel drive with studded snow tires. But I have to deal with driving up and down mountains. My father taught me, when driving in snow, pretend you have an egg under your foot and you don't want to break it. Press down slowly and carefully. And you are correct.... layer up! Small towns are the same here. People help each other. Nice video!

That is why in fall you get car washed in car wash. There is a special coatings they put on sides and undercarriage og the car. If you wash your car in winter make sure you wd40 the locks first so they don't freeze up. Ahhh the joys of winter. LOL

I'm a Wisconsin native who's lived elsewhere and moved back 6 years ago. I think you must live in southern Wisconsin if the coldest weather you experienced in the two coldest winters in years is only 20 below.. 20 below would be a normal everyday experience in the northern part of the state, for most of January. 30 and 40 below happen too, at least a couple times each winter, with isolated instances of 40 to 50 below. The record for Wisconsin was -61, in Rice Lake, on January 12th, 1977

I’m in Anchorage Alaska which doesn’t get as cold as Wisconsin. But we do have the lack of daylight issue. Shortest day is about 5 hours of light here BUT the 20 hours of daylight in the summer makes up for it once you survive the long winter. Gardening is much different too. We have a lot of sunlight but not enough days of sunlight for some veggies to grow well. I’ve had real bad luck with tomatoes here 😕. Really miss growing an abundance of tomatoes!

What part of Florida did you live in and would you move back? I live in Boyd, Wisconsin; have live in New Braunfels TX, and am now considering moving to Pensacola, FL. It's never experienced the humid summers of Florida compared to the drastically cold winters in Wisconsin. Each has their extremes but New Braunfels Texas was a dryer heat and was very comfortable to me. I just love the sun and warmer weather. How did you like Florida?

Not south Canada....NORTHERN :)), the South is warm, compared to the North. I’m grinning from ear to ear, this is soooo very familiar! Driving? I drove a school bus for 21 years, there was a time I had trouble keeping the diesel thin enough to keep running, I could NOT forget the diesel conditioner, or forget to fuel up with classified Arctic fuel. Yup, we can’t survive without block heaters. Tip: best way to stay warm in the winter and enjoy God’s Wonderful Winter Creation? Go cross-country skiing, you stay WARM:) Blessings to y’all! Shortest days of the year, daylight wise, my husband leaves in the dark, and when he comes home it’s already been dark for an hour!
