Life Inside On World's Largest Livestock Carrier
Currently, the global meat trade relies on a fleet of specialized vessels built to transport livestock across continents. Prominent among those ships is the MV Becrux, which was specifically designed for this task. The MV Becrux, constructed at the Uljanik Shipyard in Croatia, is an engineering marvel in the realm of livestock transport, with dimensions of 176.32 meters in length, 31.13 meters in maximum width, and a depth of 14.54 meters.
This huge livestock carrier ship is powered by MAN B&W 7S50 MC-C/11060 KW engines, along with four additional units of MAN B&W 2x1280 KW and two units of MAN B&W 2z1120. This configuration enables the ship to travel at a speed of 24 knots or approximately 44 kilometers per hour. Since its establishment, MV Becrux has transported cargo to many areas around the world, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Mexico, China, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Brazil, and Arab countries. At present, no other livestock carrier can match the facilities provided by the MV Becrux.
Moreover, it's important to note that in the design of a livestock carrier, the livestock is considered cargo. This makes them the only kind of cargo that is truly "alive." Unlike humans on passenger ships or ferries, who are treated as passengers, the livestock on the Becrux are managed differently from other types of cargo. The ship's designers ensure that all livestock remains alive and healthy throughout the journey, as any loss of livestock would result in business losses. Additionally, journeys utilizing livestock carriers typically range from three days to three or four weeks, and in some cases may extend for months if there are suspected disease outbreaks.
