Sad to see you shelve this Etalyx but understandable. I have to say this now, it came to mind the first video from you that I watched some time ago. Your speech flows so well, your inflection especially makes your dialogue entertaining. You should seriously consider doing audio book recording, your pitch and inflection is perfect for children's books, or even animated video productions. I'm serious, it's something you would be in great demand for. Thumb this up guys if you agree with me please.
This game has or had a lot of potential, sadly they may have gone for a little too much realism so that people would rather do real work than game work... they can still save this game but they will need to do a lot of work, hope the dev's can save it.
Yeah they dont realy understand that realism often takes away the fun. Noone realy wants to grind for hundrets of hours atleast not do the same action in loading screens for the most simple things. You need to think about gameplay otherwise people get bored in the long run or even in the first few hours. I realy hope they will work on that otherwise I dont think this game will get as good as it could. Playing alone is basicly impossible too. You need a big group for most things. Its good that you cant achieve smth like this castle alone but you should atleast be able to get some weapons and maybe a tower. Or there must be a better way to find a group maybe even a global faction system with public factions?
More realism would actually be better. That's why games like Farming Simulator are so popular. Physics and actual tasks to complete. Imagine if every action in Farming Simulator was just a progress bar. That's not "realism" and not many would play it.
GamersDissent You are right but what I ment with realism is the grind. One important thing is how buggy the game is too. Its realy not stable and the netcode is realy bad too. Understandable for a Inide dev but to get good this stuff needs to be fixed. And combat needs to get more realistic too. Do you know war of the roses? That game did what this game wants to achieve with its combat.
Thanks for spending all that time :) It is a nice idea behind the game, but I don't know how many are able to pour as much time into it as you guys did.. a shame... But hey, it might evolve into something great, just like your keep :)
Ok hear me out i don't know all the details like if you can run your own server or not but you should get some subscribers let's say 20 or so and have 2 separate teams and make settlements and fight it out. If you like the idea thumbs up. if theirs anything wrong with it reply please.
lijah owsley That would be a good idea, but like he said, the game take HOURS to do certain things. In minecraft, you and your buddys could make a fortress in around 20 min and get your iron armor or even get SOME dimonds, but in this game, it takes ages. He and his team(in the server) took around 8-10 eps. to make what you see now. But Their are HOURS just to make a simple stuff. To lvl up, to getting the "best" armor, to building structures.
For all this time, it feels like Etalyx just went around from ages to ages and from worlds to worlds doing stuff in them or observing them. Etalyx, Chronicler of Worlds. Come to think of it, that has a nice ring to it.
Or just The Chronicler. (Say if you know where came from) *Hint: It may involve the name Spyro...... :l Big hint Puh, lets hope the millons of games (Not really) hides the awesome answer. :l
200 hours though... There aren't many games I poured that much time in. Thank you for letting us see the fruits of your hard work, it was really fun ;D
No doubt, I probably have over a thousand hours in Minecraft, but the only thing even close to that is 250 hours playing Skyrim. I don't know about Fallout 3, it is probably in that 200+ range, because I played through it twice. I think they could cut down the timers to 1/10th what they are now and be closer to what people would be able to tolerate.
try2bcool yeah thought so myself. That and improving the combat would prolong this games lifespan quite a bit. According to Steam I've got 5 games over 200 hours excluding Minecraft, CoD4 and Smite which i imagine, are all around 500+ hours . But that's over four years of gaming, and a long time will have to pass until I'll ever have the urge to play Skyrim or Bad Company 2 again. I guess a lot of players of Life is Feudal feel that way now, cause they are done with the game.I think the developers shot themselves in the foot by using the Early Access model. People wanted a medieval "sim" like that.
JumpingCheater Yeah, I feel ya, I know I got tired of playing Don't Starve and Starbound a long time ago, and just can't get back into them, even though they changed a bunch since the first versions of them came out.
Derpy Turnip but it's meant to be like DayZ. realism. like this game it gonna be updated fixing the thing and bugs, but you need give the game almost 1 year to fix it :/ like dayz standalone should come 2012-2013 and did come end of 2013. i am patiend man i can wait. like i do wait cars in dayz standalone. and i will lovely wait more updates coming soon to this game, but YOU need give the game time...
I hope they wont add AI, games are so much more fun when the players create the economy themselves, create jobs for other people, its more immersive than knowing that a computer is telling you to do something.
***** its not likely they will add AI because this is meant to be a medieval simulator where everything is player made adding AI will just change that unless they AI they do add is just wandering knights that you can invite to help defend your castle (of course there would need to be a cap on how many a place can have) and bandits it would keep players abit more on their toes
Виталик Боровлёв i should of elaborated, by ai i actually mean add wolves bears, sheep, sharks, snakes. basically ai animals to bring the landscape to life.
I love the game, it takes hours, day and more to get big things done but thats what makes it fun the hard work that you put into it, and when you take a step back to see what you have done it just puts a smile on your face, sure it still needs work but most games that are yearly build do.
Thanks you Etalyx for taking the time to build this beautiful kingdom, I am sad that the server is dying, I feel bad for all your friends because they don't have much to build/do in this current update........ Again I say thank you Etalyx for everything you did.
Great work with the 13 videos, you deserve to take a break. Really appreciate it, it was very fun to watch. To be honest, I sort of see the point of all the tedious work, which forces people to really team work, trade, and even steal, since it takes so much time. It is not like Dayz (not the best comparison, but I think you will understand) where you run around for 10 min then killing other people for their loot. Because it is so much manual labor, you cannot lone wolf it. I can almost imagine the game implementing cart of some sort, so you go to a dedicated lumberjack to trade with stone or something, which will save time for both parties. However the only catch here is that this game is still early access, and just like a lot of early access that has very high potential (such as how minecraft, dayz sa, etc) people will be burnt out during early access while there are not even enough content for the full experience. I would never be able to play this game properly, due to my incredible impatience, but I would like to keep track on how this game develops. Again, great work Etalyx, very insightful and informative videos!
Awesome series man, I can understand it can get really frustrating, but I can tell you put a lot of heart into making these videos, so it's ok to see it go :) Keep up the fantastic work man! :D
I've enjoyed this a LOT and it's a bit sad to see it go for now, but i get the reasons and the only thing that i can do is wait, and hope that any other game/s that takes it's place will be entretaining. Thanks again for uploading this Etalyx and i'll see you in another video :)
GamersDissent The island settlements made me think of warships and cannons... Or at least wooden boats and old clippers that could be used for trade and naval. That would be an interesting aspect (especially for river trade).
i hate to see a good server go down like this. its just like the rust server i played on a lot of people at first but as the days went on and the bustling forts were constructed it got to the point to were it was only me and a few guys on or just me sometimes. its sad to me to see good servers go down but its life and we have to let go sometime.
Now this is the type of game i think would be cool to have 5 diffent people speilziing in diffent things and basicly hiring, And or maybe just talk with a friend while doing this, while they do otherthings, allways a idea.
Great series. To bad the great castle you've built will reset and vanish, especially the mountain castle. That is the best one out of them all. It's like the castle at the top of the mountain in skyrim lol.
Thank you for sharing the server projects with us, I have 425 hours in LiF all but 2 of that is on 1 server, about 20-25 of that is afk because bored waiting for crops to grow or stuff in tubs leather/flax to boil. And just to exuasted of building my fortress all alone, I had no one to help me so I was all alone to dig into hill by lake, make my walls, flatten land, move dirt, collect trees, food, animals, flux (Which had to make 2nd char for) because my server had 1500 skill cap which is fair and not stupid like the 3k cap servers which I'll never play on because the game is made to be a group thing. Have friends or trade with others, and on 3k cap server you can have every skill in game so you don't need others which is just retarded imo... But I'm burnt out because 99% time I'm on server alone now, even host/admin wont log on anymore they play other games now... So thinking of putting the game down to for a time... Even though my fort is only maybe 20% built, not even got a keep yet because just couldn't get self to grind out materials for it so just made the flat area for it a farm land. That is all
Next time are we mabey going to se the large keep? or mabey even a new keep that is even bigger would you show us them? Enyway thanks for showing us this fantastic game and i cant wait for the updates :)
Banished had a similar problem; A lot of people played it for a week and then slowly the playerbase decreased because after 6 hours or so, the game becomes really boring as there are no goals and one has probably reached all they wanted to. Thankfully, though, mods are happening in Banished now, with a handful of people adding in new features like actual enemies and stuff, more buildings, more jobs, etc. that makes people interested again. But compared to Banished, this game is not finished yet, it has a lot of potential and if they do things right, I'm pretty sure people will pick it up again. However, knowing how indie game developers work, as soon as the playerbase decreases, they lose motivation and end up not putting as much work into it or even stop working on it altogether (Cube World, for example). This is why I actually stay away from early access and unfinished indie games on Steam, I know that at some point the majority of those kind of games will never be truly finished and my money will be wasted. Developers of indie games really shouldn't sell their product until it's almost done, because otherwise they lose their will to finish something they worked hard on when they realize people stopped playing their game because it is unfinished and they hate waiting too long for major updates. That's my opinion and view on this whole situation, anyways. I know this might not be the case for Life is Feudal but too many recent early access indie games have become like this.
This is the reason why I don't play games in alpha/beta stage of development. Because I could get tired of it even before full and nicely balanced release.
I haven't played this one, just watched some videos, so take my comments with a grain of salt there. I don't think there's a problem with it taking ages to do things, especially stuff like building a castle or a wall or even a house. That's a good thing, it makes doing things so much better when they're hard to accomplish. What's important is that a game has OTHER options. So if you don't want to be a smith or an architect or farmer or basically willing slave labor putting up structures for your town, you should be able to get by in other ways. Hunting, banditry, or adventuring in more fantasy-themed games with monsters and such. Of course it's very important that the game have a good combat mechanic for this to work. Especially important that it avoids the usual mmo route. Tab-target combat is terrible for one, it just is. Even more important though for mitigating the grind is making it so that new players, at least once they get the basic equipment, can more or less kill anyone. Sure, swinging their copper sword (or what have you) at a knight in full armor shouldn't be a very successful tactic. But if that same top-level knight character takes off his armor they should be able to hack him apart with a couple of swings just like anyone else, and if they're really skilled they should be able to put their copper sword through a gap in his armor and harm him. Basically in addition to a good action combat system there should be no such thing as levelling up your HP or constitution. Sure, you should be able to get stronger and faster, but not untouchable. Even there, really, you shouldn't make a top-level character so powerful that he can swing a butter-knife right through low-level armor and one-shot them. That sort of thing mitigates the grind, because to some degree it removes the need to participate in it. Instead of levelling and gearing up before you go off to the fun 'end-game' content, you can start participating in things like pvp or quests or subjugations or whatever it might be right from the beginning, and it's just a pleasant side-bar that as you go along you get more powerful and it gets easier. Sorry for the wot, just my perspective on things.
As with Wurm online, this will also be obscure and fail, not because of the time you need to invest in it but because you do not have a decent pve combat component to get resources for all the other professions, that would draw people in not interested in spending 200 hours building a wall yet allow those wanting to build such walls to do so. no fantasy makes it impossible for that to happen in a meaningful way anyway so its dead
Best series? What? how long have you been subscribed to him, i dont like watching people hit rocks all day and made jokes. i find its his game reviews that is the best. Soooooo yeaaa
So, was server, the one featured here, a central one run by the game makers, or could anyone just download the server application and host it themselves? I'm guessing it was self-hosted, right? Or has the game lost that many people on its own "official" server(s)?
Awe, no...I was hoping to see this city grow and flourish. D8 Maybe if they halved the time it takes for many things in this game, it would be better? I don't know...
does anyone know how to reset the resolution? I was messing around with the resolucion now I have a big problem resetting it. it is set on lowest resolucion possible and i can't even go up & down with the mouse.
yeah it is true. i like watch you playing but i wouldn't play it. too much work. unless it is a massive mmorpg game with better benifits for creating a castle there isn't much to do after building a castle.. unless.. you are able to build trebuchets or massive weapons!? that would be cool. or boats?
