We spent 4 days there staying at the Eagle Bluff B&B before we did a 4 day trip to the "Khutzeymateen" with Dan Wakeman on the "Sunchaser". (Aussies on holiday, May 2007). Great town, lovely people!!
I was born in Prince Rupert but now live in Pennsylvania and it brings back memories mind you I was very young but I do remember a lot of places that you showed thank you for that
Sure makes me want to leave Texas and move to Canada. Beautiful area and you're sure doing an excellent job documenting your lifestyle. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for the video, I was born in PR & hardly sunny, I see 3rd St haven’t changed much. This gives me a plan for a road trip to travel back to PR.
Thanks for this. I was born in Rupert in 1949. My Dad's job took us away but I've gone back several times over the years. A gem of a town with really friendly people. And yeah, it can be dreary in the fall and winter with rain and decreased hours of sunlight but it's a great place to visit and attractive in many ways for young families and for people who want to sink their hearts and minds into a smaller community. Gonna be there in a couple of weeks. Is Trolls still around?
Looks awesome. I've never been further north than Port Hardy on the coast. I adore the west coast of BC. The insides, too, but especially the coast. :-) Cheers from Oregon.
Excellent vid! Coming up there in Sept from Wisconsin, via Seattle. Cant wait! Looks fabulous! Will have a car, cant wait to explore! Cheers from Madison WI
Nifty little tour, it certainly does look like a nice place. Good views and nice scenery, makes for good therapy against stress. I like my town but doesn't match yours. The grate looks just fine, and I can guess what the price would be exactly: "ridiculous".
Thanks! Glad you enjoy it! It really is a great little ocean side community which is why I made the move back. Thanks about the grate too, it was a fun little project and yes, much cheaper to do it myself! ha
Alfie, thank you so much for showing us your town. What a neat place. So strange to see a phone booth. But I would love to come up and try a Cowpuccino. Wood work looks great. Do you have much snow up there? Cheers!
I fear that red oak is notorious for wicking water through it capillary system. Pretty sure about this so watch closely. Perhaps some additional sealant in that area will help. As for Rupert, seems a most lovely place. I've pretty much spent my life in large metropolitan areas, my place of birth and growing up was Chicago. I now live in a single suburb that has 60,000 plus people. There is part of me that longs for a much, much simpler and quieter place such as yours. I trust you are enjoying it there and that you are blessed and have good success.
Thank you for that info on the red oak, I will see what options I have to make sure it lasts. :) Yes, I can relate to your situation since I was born and raised in the Vancouver area.
Daaaang!!! I would love to visit there, to arrive by boat a dream. Thx for sharing this. BTW, drainboard looks fine, saved money, YOU made it, you can make another need be. . Good vid Sir Alf of Rupert.
Arriving here by boat is the best! Glad you enjoyed the look around town! I sure am glad I worked on the teak sole myself, I like those little projects. :)
As a norwegian (and sailor) I really enjoy your videos. We have so much in common still so far appart. I was suprised by the sweet weather conditions at this time of the year, but had a look at the weatheforecast, and found it to be as shi** as here on the west coast of norway.
Sounds like we have similar weather and geography. :) We have been lucky with some great weather lately, although windy and cold at times but very sunny. :) I'm sure the rain will be back soon. ha
The sole looks great. Prince Rupert--so few people out and about. Maybe because it's freezing? How do you support yourself? Is it easy to find work there? Would you winter there again? Is fish relatively inexpensive?
Thanks! Yes, it was a pretty cold day which is probably why not so many people out. hah I have a regular full time job and yes I would winter here again if I decide to stay. :) Lots of seafood options here for sure. :)
Tim Lamarre Doesn't look like much happening but the Port of Prince Rupert is what's keeping us Ruperites going best job besides a restaurant or hotel opening up and the All Native Badketball every year and cruise ship season
Loved the cow bathtub..lol...Looks like a great little town,is this your homeport(sorry if I missed that part of the story) ? The cockpit project turned out very nice, but I had a question. How is the oak compared to the teak in terms of durability on a boat ?..Sorry for all the questions...really enjoying your videos !
Yes that tub is pretty cool and yes I moved up here this past summer. There is a series called Cruising Canada's West Coast that documents the move up. :) I'm no expert with wood, so I need to do a little more research on the oak still. :) Glad you are enjoying the videos. :)
Thanks for the tour. Cockpit sole looks great. Does the bay there ever freeze? I'm from Michigan USA so it is extremely rare to winter in a slip around here.
You are welcome and thanks! The harbour doesn't freeze so it is great for winter sailing. :) I hope the waters thaw soon for you so you can get back out there!
Nice tour, thanks. They do like their cows! Haha. Prince Rupert looks like a swell town, or city. What's the population? Do they attract a lot of tourism in season? The teak grate looks fine. You did a good job. I did exactly the same thing once so I know what was involved. Did you put any finish on?
You are welcome and thank you! Just teak oil on the wood after. Yes, they like the cow theme here in Cow Bay! ha Prince Rupert is a nice little town that has everything you need. :) I think the population is about 12, 000 and there is a good amount of tourism in the summer months.
Hi Alfy, The vids are great at keeping me motivated. I was suprized to find out you moved, but one must follow the work. I still have not found a boat yet Apperently my taste and my budget are a little off, but i am working on that , If you are looking for crew I would love to come help and at the same time gain some much needed experiance. Just thought i would through that out there. Thanks Alfy
I'm glad the videos keep you motivated! Yes I moved last summer and there is a series that documents the move. Cruising Canada's West Coast. It takes time to find the right boat for sure, I spent two years looking for this one. I'll let you know if I ever need extra crew. :)
See the RU-vid video "Boat Building- Red Oak vs White Oak." I build wooden canoes and follow boat building closely and know most of these sites. This gentleman is one of those experts who is really that, an expert.
Nice one Alfy! That's the first time I've seen Blue skies in Rupert ha! Glad you got a shot on Timmys, I sure miss drivin' into get a coffee and chilli in a bun! Here's a link about oak, if you've not seen it you may find it informative. Nice repair on the cockpit grating, nothing to a man of your skills though eh?! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L6t2AZubF8U.html
Thank you! haha, yes I thought I had better put a clip of TH in the video! They have great chilli! :) Thanks for the link, I'll check it out! I enjoy these little projects and hopefully I get better with each one completed! haha
great job on the cockpit sole alfy. interesting info on red oak here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L6t2AZubF8U.html seems sealing the end grain would be a good idea.
