Today at the Xbox Games Showcase, Deck Nine revealed the newest entry in the Life Is Strange franchise. It's called Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, and it stars the main character of the original Life Is Strange, Max Caulfield. It's planned for release on October 29 of this year for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
In the trailer we saw today, we got a look at an older Max who still has strange powers. In this game, she's discovered that while she's unable to rewind time the way she used to, she now has the ability to experience two parallel timelines at once. The timelines are identical, but in one timeline, hew new friend Safi has been murdered, and the in the other, she's still alive, but in grave danger. Using her new power, Max must solve and prevent both murders and reunite the two disparate timelines.
Max previously starred in both the original Life Is Strange (developed by series creator Don't Nod) and prequel Before the Storm (developed by Deck Nine). Both Life Is Strange 2 and Life Is Strange: True Colors alluded to events in these games, but this is the first time Max's story has been picked up in earnest by the video games since then.

Juliette, I wouldn't focus too much on the owl symbolism. It's a red herring as far as I'm concerned because in Life is Strange 1, Max's icon on her clothes was a doe; a Jane Doe; a nobody. Now, she's older and wiser, a night owl.

Chloe fate is up to you both endings are acknowledge in subsequent games. Hope chloe in this in some compacity not everyone saved the town.

The original idea of LiS Season 4 (which has been 'in the wild'' for about a year) was 'Aperture' and there was a different game mechanic from the one shown here but those leaks could have been distorted or based on incomplete developer documents. Certainly, the underlying plot seems identical.

Chloe might show up but in different timeline where she she got shot or alive when Arcadia bay got destroyed if that makes sense

The cop definitely looks like Nathan Prescott and the grey-haired woman looks like Joyce in terms of her hair, facial features and eye makeup. As for the two coloured moons, they’ll represent the alternate universes but I can’t help but think the Red Moon represents Safi and the Blue Moon represents Chloe. Because of the track record of Max’s friends.

@@mariamalamin99 Still, look at a side-by-side of Joyce and the woman in the trailer. Similar makeup, facial structure and hair. I’d say it’s been about eight years since the first game which was released in 2015 but set in late 2023. It’s possible her hair went grey and she didn't bother dying it any more. (I’m sure there was something in LIS 1 that was in the bathroom, showing that Joyce dyed her greys. Might be wrong. If it is her, it’s a sacrifice Bae timeline and she maybe stopped dyeing her hair due to grief.) Just a thought of course, there’s lots we’ll have to wait and see on the 13th and when the game releases! :D

Seeing Max again makes me feel old! 🤭To see her in this gen’s graphics is amazing. Because the original LIS it was so old and they were using an old engine. So of course she’s going to look completely different

@@xJuliettex They also released a game few years ago in the same vein as LiS and is called "Tell Me Why" which is highly recommended! I'm just happy that we are getting LiS Double Exposure and Lost Rage this year.

I thought the cop looked like Nathan Prescott from the first game, but it's probably just a coincidence. It might make things interesting if the cop is a Prescott though, like a relative of Nathan's after Nathan was the one who shot Chloe and now Max has to work with him to solve the shooting of her new friend.

This reminds me of the last Syberia game, where you were able to switch from one character in the present and switch back to a different character in the past to gather info and clues. I bet certain events will trigger a time switch. I wonder if it will still be decision based, and if they can surprise us with an ending that isn't another sacrificial choice.

I'm sure we'll see plenty of characters that are being left as surprises, and therefore not in the trailer. If she's doing timeline hopping, that would be a good way to include plenty of characters who might've died in whichever canon they go with.

**Life is Strange 1 SPOILERS!** I would think that the save Arcadia Bay ending is canon but I would like to see Chloe addressed maybe in the alternate timeline she’s still alive. My really mushy idea would be you see some kind of newspaper clipping or something online that shows her and Rachel Amber got married! Haha

Look at 1:41. We see a character there, for about 1 second, which doesn't appear anywhere else in the trailer and this woman rings every Chloe bell to be honest^^ So maybe this is a Chloe from a different timeline? Her face looks similar and she wears a blue beanie. Could be a different character though, but I really hope they bring her back somehow. Also at 1:44 her name appears under the picture of a dog. Don't know what's that supposed to mean^^

the choice of consoles is bad...if they had a true respect for the fans they would allow you to play it on PS4 and Xbox One as well...maybe even Switch too. diversity is what makes LIS such a beloved franchise...i like the sound of the story and plot i this game and yeah it looks good but ithink they could sacrifice some graphics and just put it on more devices. not everyone buys the latest consoles...not everyone can afford to. also not everyone has the best quality PC so Steam wouldn't work either. it's criminal for companies to literally have the attitude of "sucks to be you" and you can't play LIS 4 but you enjoyed the rest. this is the problem with the modern era...they want to continue to the next part of a series but only put it on limited devices...there should be a law where you have to keep all of the series on the same device...especially if it is story based like LIS.

The comics explains a little bit more about what happens after the first game, and this new power of multiple realities! In fact both endings is canon because of this multiverse power!

Very much looking forward to this! What they showed here looks awesome and I can't wait to see how the story plays out. I do wonder how they'll handle the Chloe situation though. When you're making a sequel (of sorts) to a choice based game players are going to have very different expectations as to which characters or events should be considered canon. Like I try to do with all story based games I'll be totally avoiding anything to do with this game now until it's released. As River Song would say, Spoilers!

I really have no idea what they'll do about Chloe. Unless there's a way we can say what we did at the start of the game... then maybe Max will have brief dialogue at some point about Chloe. I'm so excited, Neil! It looks amazing. I'll be avoiding all spoilers too 🤭 Channel River Song and we'll be just fine!

I'm really digging Max's new look. Given that the plot feels superficially similar to the first game, I'm very curious what Max's rationale will be to use her powers again. I have enough faith in the studio that I don't think they'll have Max completely forget how badly things went the last time she tried to save her friend from her fate.

My gut says this is the timeline where Chloe dies based on the line I swore never to use my powers again. Also the comic which takes place on the Chloe alive timeline had Max go to another timeline already so it shouldn't be too new for her but clearly it is in this trailer. The comic also had Max and Chloe as a couple and they move back to help rebuild Arcadia bay. So to me it makes more sense to see the timeline where Chloe dies and we have almost 0 info on what Max did next after the first game.

I wasn’t aware that a 4th one was being made either. So when I saw the announcement I was excited but shocked and with Max my favorite LIS character. I’ve been with Max since the beginning of the franchise, so seeing her again just conveys a emotion that I myself don’t. 😵‍💫 understand.

It's almost as if Max can explore the 2 fates of Arcadia Bay. Either destroyed by the storm or Arcadia Bay is fine but Chloe is dead.

Late night, Juliette! 💜You are sneaking this in!😉 Max is no doubt older, but the graphics have also improved, in certain ways, as well. I'll say it before someone else: The owl's are not what they seem. - Not a spoiler - a quote from the Log Lady in the Twin Peaks tv series.🤭 Anyway, didn't Max have some sort of spirit animal in the 1st game as well - a deer maybe, or something like that? As to the Chloe question - well it could be, as you, in a way, say, they could pick an ending for the player from the earlier game. Or... it might be, something I would do - that they use the "parallel" universe idea, and this is just another version of the one we know from the 1st game, and Chloe is not in this one. To my mind the presence of the police officer - who looks rather young, himself - considering a murder is involved, makes sense. Maybe they team up and work the clues, because whilst Max my use the supernatural, here, in the world, there needs be some access to the factual as well, I am thinking. Very intriguing - which ever way the story leads us. I look forward to your play, Juliette, and thank you for getting this out so quickly!🥰 I am a few seconds behind you, as I was deep in your video library - Michael had just popped up, behind Franklin, who had just broke into Micheal's house and repossessed Jimmy's car... 😜

Also i just wanted to say you should do a reaction on lost records: bloom and rage. Its a game made by the developers of life is strange 1 and 2 and looks very similar to the life is strange franchise
