One of the things I love about Bishop Sheen is that when he preaches, it really feels like he's sitting down and having a one-on-one conversation with you. He just feels so personal when he speaks, and it makes it so easy to connect with what he's saying. He was a man truly filled with the Holy Spirit.
I agree. I think is because he does not "preach", he tells his stories and makes his comparisons, he teaches, and we listen and choose whether to learn.
We do have good Catholic speakers today. Less people listen though. If one of them tried to get a show on a major network he would be laughed at. That is the state of the world after the sexual revolution.
"In those (olden) days, people knew they did wrong, but they didn't call the wrong right." Brilliant. I've been looking for the words to describe our society and have found them here. I must have been only six or seven when I listened to these broadcasts with my grandmother and grandfather; listening today I understand better the roots of my thoughts and beliefs on society and mankind. These are not speeches about the Catholic church and doctrine, they are speeches about being man in a physical body with a metaphysical spirit.
Excellent. Animals also have their courtship rituals, and for the most part any male imagining that he can simply mount a female will find himself badly mistaken. Generally it is the female who will signal acceptance. Even lions will prowl and lurk .... and wait. When humans reduce sexual union to mere mechanics they are actually lower than animals.
Following this thread, you could go even further that the whole idea of love, donation, and belonging is truly a human aspect. You just think to the fact that outside of mammals most animals simply mate and move on with their lives, and then even with mammals most animals remain together simply for survival not out of some sense of devotion or care.
@@josemarques404 I would agree with you for the most part, except for my personal observation of animals in grief who seek out their mates or parents or children gone be whatever means and those who mourn their human caregivers. If you confine your remark to only the act of procreation, maybe, but once you broaden it beyond, no.
That would be a great statement, if there weren't a plethora of non-human animal species in which the male aggressively or forcibly mates with the female. Some species even have groups of males that will gang up on a single female.
You make a good point and one that is just as valid for humans as non-human species. I think Elizabeth Anne Grey's comment, above, is about sex for the sake of sex alone. It's very difficult to discuss things here on the internet because of the differences in the ways that we express ourselves. Because this is a religious video, it may be implied that sex is for procreation and procreation alone. But then, if you are only having sex to procreate aren't you really engaging in a mechanical behavior? I don't know because I am not experienced in that type of situation though I am Catholic, I do believe in birth control. Nor do I have the education to discuss, or inclination to research, the effect of the estrus cycle in mammals. I do think that this release of pheromones is a precipitating factor in non-human animal behaviors to which you refer, but not in humans. I certainly cannot agree with Elizabeth that sex for the sake of sex is conduct lower than the animals but can agree that male and female humans can be brutalized by those who have the desire to do so whether individually or in groups. As humans we even have those who prefer this and consent to either be the masochist or the sadist. My comment previously is directed not to the sex act between animals, but to the ways in which animals demonstrate emotions much like our own. Sometimes, these are emotions that are lacking in certain humans for one reason or another. Anyway, thank you for pointing this out. I thought it, but chose to go in the other direction when I commented.
@@julietjowett9678 My comment was actually directed toward Elizabeth, but thank you regardless for your reply. Judging by both of your comments, I think you and I actually share very similar views on the subject; and you seem well-spoken and thoughtful on the matter.
As a high school student I didn't have any 'status'. I was a virgin, and deeply ashamed of that fact. Today people like me are called 'incels' - involuntary celibates. People who use that word would not consider it possible for a person to be a "v-cel" - voluntarily celibate. If you're not having sex, there must be something wrong with you, they think.
I went to St Christopher school growing up. I was taught sex ed by a nun. She started the class by saying there will be no laughing in my class. If you do you will be sent out into the hallway. Lets just say we never laughed in her class.
Romantic love, passionately experienced by humanity throughout the ages, grew as an ideology in France during the last quarter of the twelfth century. Its theoretical basis was formulated by Andrew Capellanus (the Chaplain), in The Art of Courtly Love, and in the poetry of Chrestien de Troyes. Carried to the countryside by troubadours, the idea of romantic love took hold and spread rapidly throughout Europe-even into the narrow confines of the Jewish world. outside of the bible morals ...
People ridicule Muslim women for dressing up modestly and being chaste instead of praising their good behavior, in anticipation that one day others might follow them. May God almighty guide people..
Jesus said, "Those who worship must worship in spirit and in truth." The Apostle Paul wrote, "Whoever preaches a different gospel should be accursed." Yet, is baptism necessary for salvation, as Catholics teach? Paul wrote, "Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved." Christ said, "Ask and you shall receive." That is, Christ died on a Cross so that we can know Him - just by asking! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
To be saved through Christ is to not just hear his words but to also do them as he has instructed. To BELIEVE is to DO what he says... all of them, not some of them. Christ is the only way to salvation and he tells us what WE MUST do to inherit his kingdom: Sacrament of Initiation (Baptism) - “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit". [John 3:5] Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) - "I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish." [Luke 13:3] Sacrament of thanksgiving (Eucharist, Holy Communion) - “Truly, truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." [John 6:53-54]
@@Lerian_V Hi. Thanks for writing. Concerning John 3.5, what makes you think that the term born of water means baptism? Aren’t you assuming what Christ said? That is, is there anywhere else in scripture where it says that baptism is a birth process? Moreover, before you quote any other Bible verses or make any other points, would you be so kind as to explain Romans 10.13? Paul wrote,” whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.“! notice that baptism is not necessary, nor is communion to be saved, lest you want to call Paul a liar. Remember, before you quote from John chapter 6 about communion, or quote from first Peter about baptism, please explain Romans 10.13. If baptism and communion are necessary for salvation, then Paul is a liar and the Bible is a false book and should not be endorsed nor followed. Yet, you cannot comment on Romans 10.13 without exposing your false doctrine. You are an enemy of God, leading people to hell, in danger of hellfire yourself. I hope that you will be the one true, honest Catholic, as all your other Catholic brethren ignore or distort Romans 10.13. Yet, I hope you will meet the Lord, just by asking! Jesus Christ is the light of the world

And I wonder where he spent his evenings ( and who with ) Bet ya any amount it was a gay leather bar followed by a few hours in the bath-houses, after all he chose to live in NY.
Many people never knew about homosexuals in times past. Those that were of that persuasion, kept it under wraps, hidden. I very much doubt this man would fall into your slanderous assumptions.
@@MonaLisa-lu8zi Just as likely as not then - but we all know the church ( of all creeds ) is rife with sexual perversion - in may cases involving minors ( something I guess you and many others turn a blind eye to or simply block out of your consciousness ).
@@chiabc100 But probably the case. Loads of these nut jobs use religion as a cloak of supposed respectability - and that is one hell of a cloak he wafts about in..
Well, his deeply spiritual sermons indicate to me he spent his evenings in preyers and in meditation over the Bible. This requires lots of time and certain state of inner peace, every day... you won't find it in a bar or when preaching something you are not doing yourself 😉
