Hey mate, bit of a dumb question but.... 1) Do you keep the same room or do you get moved around everytime you came back for your shifts from days off? 2) Do the kitchen staff make lunch packs that you collect before going out on shift or do you come back the mess for a 30 min lunch or do you make your own before your day/night shift and take it out with you on site? 3) What’s the internet like for making video calls back to your family and to talk to your kids? 4) Is there any medical on site for things like physio, dentist, etc and is it covered by the company or is it out of pocket/health fund/Medicare type of payment? 5) Do you find that most people tend to just come back, grab a feed and hit the racks or is it pretty much people have time and energy to socialise and excercise after a 12hr shift? I ask because I do onsite refuelling on the GC for construction and mining gear, usually work between 10-12hr shifts doing mon-fri and some saturdays and by the time I get home I’m utterly destroyed and falling asleep eating dinner. 6) What’s the flight schedule like? Do you fly in and pretty start work that day or the next? How does it work with regards to getting from the airport to the site? On your last day off at home I’m assuming on a day shift, you’ll fly out early morning and be starting a shift the next day? Can you explain how that all works? 7) What advice to you have for guys with young kids looking to work in the mines on a possible 14/7 shift? And for the big one......what is the pay like and what are the entitlements for super, sick leave, annual leave, emergency leave/parental leave etc? What can an expected average weekly earning be after tax for a 12hr 14/7 shift? Thanks for the video by the way, it helps a guy like me who is seriously considering applying for a job to get his head around what I’m getting myself in for. G

hey If you are doing shutdowns you will get a random room each time you go to site. If you are on a permenent swing/roster you may keep the same room. Make your own lunch from a smorgesboard in the morning. Most places the internet is good. Just use your own phone internet, some have wifi but not many. Telstra network is the way to go. I use Boost No health services Depends on the person. Alot drink beers. Some go to the gym. It is pretty tiring in the heat but depends on what youre doing too. Everywhere is different re flight schedule. Sometimes you'll fly in and start straight away, sometimes you fly the night before. Don't normally get paid for flight time. If on night shift fly up that morning. Sometimes on day shift get there the night before depends on company and site. Honestly don't do it for your familys sake or havea strong financial goal that you are working toward and don't change your lifestyle/expenditures in the meantime. You won't get that time back with your kids. Fly out day is the worst day ever. Talk to your wife or partner regulalry and if either of you aren't happy call it quits. Family first, money second. Depends on what you are doing re pay. A scaffy gets roughly $2500-$3000/wk banked. Most places aren't permenent so no sick leave, annual leave etc. If you get on a permenent roster you may get some. Good luck with it all. Shop around there is heaps of work in WA. They will probably pay for your flights from the east coast if you are there.

@@naturalfamilyadventure2527 awesome mate, thank you heaps. As it is now, I’m working more than I get to see my kids and the pay barely covers the mortgage, bills, fuel for the car that’s on its last legs and food. After that there’s bugger all money left. Financially I’m going backwards....we can’t afford to do repairs on the house, can’t buy a new car, haven’t been on holidays for 8yrs and barely go anywhere in case the car breaks down so this decision is very much based on generating a better income than I’m getting now.

Hi mate, just wondering if you ever made the leap into fifo. My story is kinda the same, I do pretty big hours (two jobs - full time on an apple orchard and then an extra 15-25 hours milking cows), just to get by (and still going backwards). I don’t get a lot of time with my wife and kids as is so I’m thinking more and more that mining labourer pay would at least stop us scratching for food.

When you fly up at the start of your swing do you fly in the morning and then go straight to work at the mine, or do you go up the night before and sleep at the camp first?

How do you do a 12 hour shift, say you're tired, and then go for a run?

I say go out and start and after 5mins if your still tired then go back to your room. Being tired is an excuse not to exercise. 😀

Hey mate, if you were a young single guy in his mid 20s would you opt for FIFO work? I'm moving to Perth this week from NZ, have a BSc so hoping to do geo work. Honestly I can see this lifestyle being tough for people with families but for me, the money and the time off make it seem pretty bloody perfect with where I am in life at the moment. Interested to hear your thoughts, cheers.
@naturalfamilyadventure2527

Sorry for the late reply. Would jump onto it if I was single. But don't look at it as a lifestyle. Have a goal hit it and get out. If not you will get stuck there spending everything you make and never leave. So get some investments and set your self up. example real-estate stock's crypto ECT. Good luck

I spent so long putting it off and the main step is just booking a ticket over - moved over with one suitcase and figured it out aye. Obviously if you have children or a serious relationship going on you have more things to consider hut beyond that just book a ticket if you are serious about moving
