Every time I see Kabu’s broken leg and her walking on it, it makes me tear up. That poor baby. But, I’m so happy these beauties found each other. They can now spend the rest of their lives depending on each other. God Bless you Lek and your team.
Kabu's leg is not broken, it WAS broken 30 years ago and healed incorrectly in the position we see it in, the bones fused that way. For whatever it's worth, they told us in the past that she doesn't have pain. Lek isn't fluent in English, and uses the word "broken" to mean disabled. It confuses a lot of people. Update: I have learned that the following is the consequence of feeding elephants a soft diet: "An international team of scientists examined the skeleton and found: Jumbo's molar teeth were malformed and out of line as a result of a long-term soft diet that did not wear his molar teeth down enough, obstructing the forward eruptive movement of the next molar. Jumbo's nightly rages were probably caused by toothache, rather than musth, as his keeper thought at the time." > That from the Wikipedia article about Jumbo the elephant, only 25 years old, and I saw this repeated about other young elephants, only 20-25 years old. Lek feeds these elephants a soft diet. 2+2= what is the sum consequence of a soft diet, then? I began watching ENP's YT channels in October of 2014, but I didn't bother to research what could have been known. Last summer of 2022, I did research, and I posted those URLs in the description of my ENP Babes playlist, so that you can read up and educate yourself. Things have gone on there that we haven't known, things have not been as we've thought, see the last video in that playlist, where the mahout was riding Jungle Boy with bullhook in hand. No elephant will ever let anyone ride him/her, unless they have first been put through Crush. Jungle Boy was purchased by Lek as a baby, so he had not been previously "trained." Watch that video, and see the URLs for yourself in that playlist description.
How heartless can a person be to be calling a poor elephant with a broken leg "LAZY!" Let someone go break one of their damn legs and see how much they are going to want to walk!! Those stupid b*tches make me sick! And they call themselves a sanctuary? WTF!!! Are they even going to have that broken leg reset and put in a cast? People like that are disgusting!!
@@fedup6969 ENP isn't a sanctuary; it's a privately owned, for-profit park, that has a non-profit org, so they claim that a lot, but ENP itself is a for-profit business. If people want to learn more, I've posted URLs of researched information in my ENP Babes playlist description. (Her leg was broken 30 years prior, it healed in that position.)
Seriously, if your leg was like that, you would not want to walk much at all, and you would not walk fast. Besides the pain, her balance is "off", and her entire body is out of alignment. I applaud her for walking at all, and for not being cranky or irritable.
The Vets said she isn't in pain. I find her spirit remarkable, and am impressed that she goes into the river and does all that she does, like following Chana around everywhere.
So sad to hear this elephant broke her leg when she was very young working in the work camps and was forced to work on that broken leg..... Now her leg is damaged from that act of cruelty..... At least she is in a place of rest and love now and has a loving friend..... God bless all that work with these beautiful creatures ♥️
I’m so glad Chana accepted Kabu as her mother, seeing as Kabu was so desperate to have a baby to care for. I can’t imagine the emotional trauma of her first calf being stillborn and the second one taken from her and sold. I just can’t wrap my mind around the cruelty these elephants have been subjected to.
I am so sorry for Kabu, why human so cruel? So I prefer to help animals than humans, because animals are innocent, human has so much choice to survive, but animals are not easily survive cuz the big enemy is human
Kabu's first calf, a little bull, was Not "stillborn"; he died after "training", that is a quote from one of Lek's videos about Kabu. That means he was one of the many that was killed by Phajaan/The Crush/Torture training. Up to HALF of all captive Asian elephant calves are killed by the severe brutality of Phajaan/The Crush/Torture Training. Man's brutality and violence against elephants is killing them faster than they can reproduce, considering that they have a gestation period (pregnancy) of 22 mos., and that they usually do not conceive in those torturous elephant camps where they're under such stress. As a result, vile hunters go into the Wilds to illegally capture a wild calf, and to do that, they murder the rest of the herd to steal that calf. That elephant massacre, rarely spoken of, is the direct cause of elephants in the Wild being decimated in Asia, not Ivory, as Asian elephants do not carry Ivory, except for the bulls. They then take that traumatized, stolen calf and sell it to one of those torturous elephant camps using falsified papers, claiming it was captive-born. Then, around age 4- 5, they force that calf through Phajaan/The Crush/Torture Training which is a 24/7 week of hell, without sleep, food or water, using violence that I won't name, which kills up to HALF of them. Mankind is very destructive, and many would say insane. Notice that those elephant camps will say that an elephant like Chana broke their leg in a way that is not credible. Would they tell the truth that it was through Phajaan that her leg was broken? No. But they gave an excuse that was just not credible, not believable. They also say things like she had no mother, or lost her mother. When a calf is stolen from her family in the Wilds and illegally sold into captivity, she won't have a mother anymore. This multi-pronged deadly violence against elephants is why they will soon be extinct, both in the Wild and in captivity in Asia. This is why Lek is working to save as many as possible as quickly as possible. Man's killing of African elephants, also, is why they too, will soon be extinct. It is not all about Ivory, there have been many mass-culls that man has done against African elephants. Out of all species on the Earth, man is the only species that seeks to decimate and destroy the Earth.
@@cacatr4495 Oh, ugh, so her first baby was killed. Oh, lordy. I must have misheard; sometimes I have a hard time understanding non-US accents. I wish what you’ve described so well and thoroughly could make its way across the world in numbers, particularly to the (people of) the countries who frequently give trekking camps business during their yearly guaranteed 3 - 4 week holiday. And, also to the most populated country in the world whose people have caused and continue to cause the decimation of hundreds of thousands of African elephants and rhinos. The elephants, because having things made of ivory is a statement to their friends and neighbors that they are rich. In their culture it is a must to flaunt one’s wealth. The rhinos, because of their ridiculous, backwards belief that consuming the horn has medicinal value for various health ills and even worse, the belief that it increases male virility. The latter drives the biggest demand. However, because of their culture and beliefs, the knowledge would have little to no effect; they simply don’t care. Altruism is not valued in their society, so what they want for themselves and their family trumps everything.
@@gabe-po9yi So you know, Lek never said "stillborn" in this video, only the word "died". But Lek said "died after 'training' " in another video, the word "training" in quotation marks to mean Torture Training. I don't know how many details you picked up of my long comment here, but I believe that Chana's broken leg of 2018 was the result of the same (TT), and that she came from the Wild. 7 is old for TT, they usually force that on a calf around age 4-5, and they wouldn't have waited, so I think they had just received her from the Wild, and that is why she has no mother, which means that she watched her family be killed. Chana has great sorrow in her young eyes. Her young face overflows with great understanding of Life, bearing witness to things that the young ones born at ENP have never seen.

Can't they manufacture a brace to take pressure off bad front left leg for this elephant to stop pain and re-align the bone(s) ? ? I saw about one year ago where a crippled elephant with bad front leg, a prosthetic person made a brace and gave a normal life back to the elephant ! ! I believe it was in the bush in Africa. I hope you are able to help her.
Kabu's leg was broken 30 years ago in babyhood, it healed in that position, her bones fused that way so that her leg can't be changed. The Vets say she's not in pain. Since her leg is healed in the incorrect position, and by the Vets detailed assessments, a brace wouldn't help her.
@@cacatr4495 thanks for letting me know. It is such a shame it was not repaired when it happened, but I am glad she is not in pain (I hope vet is right about that ! ) !
I don't think Kabu is lazy. But with her broken left leg, she needs to be careful with her movements. If she doesn't want to take a bath, then it's OK. As an elephant, she is highly intelligent, and wise beyond words. We need to keep that in mind and work with her. 🐘🐘❤
Kabu's leg is not broken, it WAS broken 30 years ago in babyhood. Her bones healed in that position, her bones fused that way, so that they can't be changed. The Vets say she's not in pain. So if she doesn't want to do something, it may not have anything to do with her leg, but just because she doesn't want to do a thing. That doesn't make her "lazy." Lek is not fluent in English, and can forget to say (or not know to say) that Kabu's leg USED TO be broken. I think when Lek says "broken", that means disabled.
@@cacatr4495 A vet like a Doctor can not say whether or not someone is in pain the only person that can determine that is the person themself. Since Kabu can’t speak, we can’t speak for her level of pain. She gets around really good. I can only pray that her pain level is extremely low to none. 🥰🥰🐘🐘🐘
@@cheryl62022 Yes, they can only surmise to the best of their fallible ability. I hope with you. I find her very impressive, and Chana too. Please read my reply to 'gabe 25'; I believe there is much more to Chana than meets the eye as well, especially when one looks into the details x 2.

Only if you knew the anticipation with which I look forward to seeing your videos. Always a delight and joy. Thank you. It truely fills my heart with so much happiness.
Kabu's leg was broken 30 years ago in babyhood and healed in that position, the bones fused that way, so that nothing can change it. The Vets say she's not in pain. While it's hard to see, understand that she walks TREMENDOUSLY better, easier, stronger and faster than she did when she was rescued in 2015. Rather than embracing pity, that will help no one including Kabu, be thankful and joyful for all the improvements she's made, and that she is safe and at peace, with family in Chana and now Ploy Thong, that she's joyful, loved and loving, and lively once again.
To say Kabu is lazy isn’t really fair. Her leg/foot is broken. Maybe it’s to painful for her to climb down hills or inclines. Is she on any pain meds? Yes, she’s walked on that broke leg all her life but that does mean she’s comfortable with her situation. She could be in a lot of pain.

Kabu is probably in discomfort on ground she cannot see. She remembers when she fell and broke her leg. Easy with her please. Let her move at her own pace.🐘💕💕 Did you note how Chana helped Kabu up the little slop at the mud pool. So loving.❤
Kabu didn't fall and break her leg. When Kabu was a baby, a huge log rolled into her leg breaking it in the forest where her mother was working. That was 30 years ago; her leg has since healed, albeit incorrectly, but her bones have fused that way. The Vets say she isn't in pain.
No sugar canes but banana for Kabu to entice her down to river?! She loves sugar canes, looks how she ran to the cane basket. She is not lazy. It's just hard for her to walk with her leg problem. Hope they stay forever with each other. Love them.
How dare anyone, hurt or abuse these magnificent creatures. These Ellie’s are such soulful beings, sensitive and compassionate. Thank God for refuge’s like LeK has created for these amazing elephants to live out their lives the way their creator intended. Thank you , thank you a million times to any and all who care for, rescue and love all creatures great and small.

Lek is not fluent in English and uses the word "broken" to mean disabled. It confuses a lot of people. Kabu's leg was broken 30 years ago when she was a baby, it healed in that position, her bones fused that way, so yes, she is permanently disfigured. The Vets say she's not in pain.

Lek isn't fluent in English, and often uses the word "broken" to mean disabled; it confuses a lot of people. The Vets say that Kabu isn't in pain. She has improved MUCH, as is evident when comparing her mobility, strength, ease and speed to her rescue video. She moves SO much better, easier, stronger and faster, and the loving relationship she has with her beloved adopted daughter Chana has been Life to her! Rather than pity, we need to rejoice with her, and be thankful for all the good in her life since her rescue (2015) and Chana's entrance into her life (2019).
So Kabu's leg was broken when she was two, and she continued doing work in logging for 20+ years. When she came to ENP in 2015ish, a lot of time was spent training her for the xray process, generator noise, vets handling bad leg. Upshot was that the ankle had healed very badly, and the deformation was a result of growing up while bearing weight on the leg. The vet team decided surgical intervention would not help. Non intervention with hydrotherapy, anti-inflammatories etc was the path forward. Her walk and posture has improved a huge amount since she arrived.
@@hedgeandhue Thank you for this valuable info as I did not know the condition of her leg..... All viewers want to hear about the elephants and not just enjoy watching them.... So sad to hear how she was treated at the work camps.... Poor baby endured a lot of pain being forced to work with a broken leg and loosing her babies also.... Bless you ♥️

@@hedgeandhue Thank you very much indeed. You're right ... we want to see them but we do want to hear every little thing about them and their histories ... we're all learning so much.
It must be painful for her to walk. What a pity it wasn't fixed by the people she was with when she got injured. Poor love.♥️🐘 I've seen braces made for elephants in other sanctuaries. Can one not be made for her?
@Theresa Whitty Kabu's leg was broken 30 years ago, it healed in that position, her bones fused that way. After her arrival, a thorough exam was done by the vets, Xrays taken, and it was determined that nothing could be done, that a brace wouldn't help her. They say she's not in pain.
A big YES to this ... I came off FBook some years ago as the experience was making me so poorly. I'd like to know how the stars work exactly and for us all to maybe be able to award stars through RU-vid and other channels. Facebook's star is fading.
Chana is the youngster. Kabu is the adult with the disfigured leg that was broken 30 years ago in babyhood, such that it healed in that position, her bones fused that way. Nothing can be done to change her leg. Vets say she's not in pain. She walks so much better, easier, stronger, faster than she did at the time of her rescue in 2015.
Is there nothing to do to fix Kabu's leg?? It must be painful...I don't think she is lazy maybe it is more from pain that she doesn't care to move. Bless her little heart!!
That one with the messed up ankle, must be in so much pain all the time. I’m sure you’ve spoke about the injury before, so I’ll try and find a video. Or if someone else could share the link with me that would be wonderful. I’m assuming there is nothing that can be done. I imagine myself trying to walk with that injury. I wouldn’t make it a week. What strength and the will they have just to live.
The vets say that Kabu isn't in pain. Her leg was broken 30 years ago, it healed in that position, her bones fused that way, so no, nothing can be done. You can click on this channel's name, go to their video page, enter "Kabu" into the search line, and get many videos that way.
They both USED to have broken legs. The youngster is Chana, 10 years old, small for her age, probably due to her leg (left rear, the large bone was broken, and a smaller one too, but it's the large bone that is crucial for bearing weight), as long term suffering takes a great deal of energy that would have gone to growth. Her leg has healed, but it probably healed incorrectly, so ENP has worked to bring as much improvement as possible, and there HAS been much improvement. Is she in pain? I don't know. As to the adult Kabu, her leg was broken in babyhood 30 years ago, her leg wasn't tended at all, so it healed incorrectly, her bones fused that way, in the position we see them in. The Vets say that Kabu isn't in pain. Lek isn't fluent in English, so the word "broken" is often used for the word *disabled, and that confuses a lot of people.
Kabu's leg was broken 30 years ago, it healed that way, her bones fused in that position. When she was rescued in 2015, they examined her thoroughly and X-rayed both front legs (which can be seen on her page at the website), and determined that nothing could be done, given that her bones are fused in that position. The vets say that Kabu isn't in pain. Lek isn't fluent in English, and often uses the word "broken" to mean disabled; it confuses a lot of people. Kabu has come a long way, she has improved greatly since her rescue, which is clearly seen in comparing her present mobility to her rescue video. She walks and moves with far greater ease, strength and speed, and her condition is Much better, as is the condition of her mind and heart, given she is no longer abused, and given that she now has the joy and love of having family in adopted daughter Chana.
The vets say Kabu isn't in pain. Kabu's leg was broken 30 years ago, it healed in that position, her bones fused that way, so no, her leg cannot be straightened.
I’d want to be lazy too if I had to walk on that leg. I’m amazed shes walking anywhere. It must be soooo painful. Edit. She might be lazy, but she sure picks up the place for that basket of snacks 😂
