I put this little video together using still photos from various locations important in the life of Nichiren Shonin. These photo include some scenes from my Docho ceremony at Seicho-ji in Japan, the home temple of Nichiren where he trained as a boy. The Docho ceremony is the official beginning of a novice priest, Shami. Prior to taking Docho a novice takes Tokudo at their home temple where they shave their head and abandon the life of a lay practitioner. However until a candidate registers their name at Seicho-ji and takes Docho they are not considered official Nichiren Shu Shami. Many of the photos were taken while I lived in Japan, with the bulk of them being from a group pilgrimage lead by Ryuoh Faulconer Shonin in 2006. Towards the end of the video which is mostly a slide show with narrative there is are a couple of video clips from the Oeshiki ceremony and parade at Ikegami Honmon-ji tmeple. I hope you enjoy this unprofessional attempt to share some of the history of Nichiren Shonin.
