So happy to have stumbled apon your channel Sunny, what a precious opportunity to live on this gorgeous island...absolutely stunning, so serene and lovely genuine warm residents :)
Goto looks so lovely, with the juxtoposition of old and new, but in a much more blended fashion than seeing the townhouses in Kyoto. I think even if I were to live there, I would never get bored of the scenery and atmosphere. Thank you so much for taking the trip and sharing it with us.
Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed it! You’re right, it’s a little different from what Kyoto has to offer. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful island 🏝️😌
Been addicted to watching your videos recently. It's always really interesting how you enjoy Japanese traditional cultures and notice a lot of things about Japan that even I, who lived in Australia for a year, didn't notice. And your videos help me study English. Thanks for the great video!!
Been binge watching your videos after seeing it recommended to me on youtube and really liking the vibe of your channel. Can't wait to see more new episodes in the future.
This vlog is like... an Ōtoro Tekkadon bowl, a feast of the highest quality tuna sashimi, visually spectacular and densely packed with top content... woah, spread it out a little, Sunny... 😄 Thank you 🙇♂ (I need to rest my eyes now...)
@@Sunny_in_Japan yes, I used to be research scientist at pharma industries and then moved to Yatsugatake after retirement. Very nice to live here if you like nature and mountain views.
What a magical place! To say I'm envious would be an understatement. The best part is having the time to immerse in the location and culture. I'd love to spend a few months there. Great video!
I’m so grateful for the experience 😌 How I wish remote working had become the norm so we could go and have these kind of unique experiences every now and again
This would be heaven for me. I was born, raised and grew up in a very small town (graduated high school in a class of 45 or so people) and though I lived in a large city for a few years, I definitely have a preference for small towns. A lack of internet connection aside (my present occupation requires a connection unfortunately) it appears as though you have access to everything you might require but in a much more quiet, calm and relaxing atmosphere. The big cities of Japan look amazing (and I can't wait to visit them during my upcoming vacation to Japan in September) but I think the smaller towns allow you to experience the culture in a much more intimate and hands on way. I could see myself living in such a place and being happy and completely at peace.
You’re right, you really feel a sense of community and connection in such a small place. If you don’t mind the seclusion and love nature, this place might be paradise 🏝️ Enjoy your Japan trip!
So glad I discovered your channel! This is genuinely the best J vlog I remember watching. Goto looks absolutely amazing and the pacing and editing of the video is fantastic
You've just popped up. Good old RU-vid. I lived in Saga Shi, Kyushu in 1985-86 studying Kendo I was 25 . It was the best time of my live . The country the people, such wonderful memories and your stile of vlog has brought it all back. Thank you for your hard work and for sharing . I have subbed and will enjoy looking at your back catalogue. All the best you two. 🙏
Wow I’m so glad this video made it to you and I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊 Living in Saga must have been such an amazing experience! Are there any places in that prefecture you recommend for a visit?
@@Sunny_in_Japan Hi ! Gosh I was there 40 years ago. Let me get back to you on that but I loved the culture , the summer festivals, 🤔all the festivals for that mater. The traditional music and dance, the coming together and community spirit was / is amazing. 🤔I don't know dose Saga still have it's Balloon festival ? Now that's a site. I will dust off my old photo albums. ☺🙏
Very interesting video. Not only introducing our Japanese traditional lifestyle, but also you might be one of the first RU-vidrs or Influencers from overseas, who has been to Goto islands. I mean even many of we Japanese also never been to. Of course lots of Japanese know the name of Goto. By the way I used to live in Naha, Okinawa back in the early 90's and been to some pretty small islands.
It is such a privilege to get to visit this beautiful island 🏝️🥰 Okinawa also sounds so beautiful! How did you like living in Naha? Would you recommend it for tourists?
@@Sunny_in_Japan My best recommendation is the Kerama islands. True hidden gems. Very small natural islands. Deep clear pretty natural beaches. Cause hidden gems all of us need to be very careful. Can accept only limited numbers of tourists, cause small. Used to work for the local NHK for a while, haha. Now different way. ウミガメ産卵の大事な諸島です。開発は程々が良いと思います。
I've stayed in a kominka in Hagi for a few days in late 2022...it's really nice and beautiful...but yes you can hear almost all the noises from the other rooms....even if someone just move something you'll probably hear it......and because it's made up of wood (mostly quite thin) even if you close all the doors (or wall) you can still feel cold.....I don't know how the people in the past were able to survive living there during winter....
Wow that must have been such an amazing experience! I do wonder that all the time as well. 🤔 As an Aussie, my mind also goes to the fire risk of wood houses
the ancient stone wall is built from either river stones or beach stones rounded by the water. i would guess beach stones. they are built standing so each layer locks in to the one below. the right angled stone cut pillars hold the whole lot together.
Thank you for making this vlog.Im from the island and I’m looking for some vlog to show my girlfriend about my hometown.thanks !!!and I look forward uploading some other vlog in Japan
An automatic Like and follow! I am glad I stopped by your channel, I will take the time to browse and dig through the vids. Amazing place! like living inside a Ghibli movie, in love at first glance.
2:43 Just wanna make a quick correction. It's not even the most Western point in Japan actually. The Ryukyu islands go much much further West. In fact, they span further West than Korea whereas Goto is only at about the same longitude as Busan.
WONDERFUL! Watching right now this your video, and I’ve get need to go there... I watching and seeking for places worldwide - the most islands and archipelagos to move (relocate) there on some quiet, peaceful, tranquil, remote place... And there will buy an Akiya in rural Japan would be a great choice, I think. I seen the world... as seaman (seafarer)... I live in an small country Montenegro by name, where now is a tourism madness... I don’t recognize my country any more... Greetings from Montenegro!
Zdravo! Hvala na komentaru 😊 Definitivno je mirno i prelepo ostrvo, i ljudi su topli ko naši Ako volite prirodu, more i opušten način života, svakako posetite!
Frankly, I haven't gone enough to pick a place right now. But I do enjoy driving on country side in Kyushu, and seasides in Yamaguchi as well. However, to live, the place needs to fit my situation and lifestyle at the time, and right now, being a singer-songwriter, my current ideal is to be invited to stay and have concerts by people living in rural areas all over Japan, and experience and enjoy them all. That, to me, is luxurious. 🙂
That’s what I thought at first too! But I double checked. It’s got some kind of special oil in it so I’m guessing that’s what gives that oily feeling 😕
