Life On The World's BIGGEST Offshore Oil Rig Platform

How does offshore oil production work? The offshore drilling platform Berkut is one of the largest in the world. It is located 25 kilometers from Sakhalin Island on the shelf in the Sea of Okhotsk. This is a huge fully autonomous plant on giant reinforced concrete piles, which not only drills new wells, but also extracts several thousand tons of oil every day from a huge depth. The platform is able to withstand 18-meter waves, withstand temperatures down to -44 C° and the pressure of ice fields up to 2 meters thick. During the construction of the platform, for the first time in the world, a seismic protection system was used, which makes it possible to withstand an earthquake with a power of 9 points without loss of performance.

I worked on berkut in South Korea when it was still in construction in the ship yard. We were responsible for installing the rubber seals around the liquid tanks and knuckle joints on the legs. The thing is absolutley enormous! Isn't the human race amazing when it works together!

@@cyndiwyatt6751 highly doubt that ever happened. Pirates running their crappy boats arent going to be able to get up on a rig like that from the water. genuinely curious, does the rubber has a special layer on its inner layer to prevent the rubber from getting damaged or wrinkled or anything else due to any special circumstances? since rubber would likely got weathered in time so im curious how it developed for this certain function.

not much to see, single beds, either 1 or 2 person rooms (older platforms have more people per room) with a bathroom/shower shared by adjoining room (again exceptions for older rigs). Generally like a cheap-ish hotel, but clean and tidy, with free food, wifi, laundry, etc. 2 person rooms usually have one person working, another sleeping, so you get the room to yourself at the end of your shift. You're not there forever, as everyone works on a rotation of some sort, say, 4 weeks on, 4 off, or, as in Norway, 2 weeks on, 4 weeks off...

1 major issue with this video if what you stated is accurate, the ESD should be actually tested at set intervals. I worked on various offshore platforms throughout the Gulf of Mexico for a major oil company…. These test are a requirement set by the governing body MMS (Minerals Management Service) and all required testing has to be documented and signed off. You’d be amazed at the number of safety devices that are “supposed to work” actually fail to work for numerous reasons…. That’s why actual periodic function testing of all safety devices “MUST” be carried out according to their set requirements.

I was sure that petroleum is a hydrocarbon. Hydrocarbons are hydrogen and carbon fused together through heat and pressure, which comes ready-made by earth for us to extract and use. We then split these hydrocarbons for energy upon combustion: hydrogen and carbon are both released as fuel for plants to grow and thrive. Pants absorb this back into the earth and the cycle repeats itself. On this basis, petrolium is the greenest, most abundant renewable liquid on earth after water, and it will almost certainly never run out. The lies everyone has been fed about oil, gas, coal etc have been used for centuries by very small, albeit powerful, groups of people who have huge stakes in maintaining a monopoly on that power and control over governments and people. Pricing a barrel of oil is like putting a price on a barrel of water - it's impossible because it is superabudant. Create the perception of scarcity, however, and you can charge people whatever you want. If you can do that, you can yeild huge influence in shaping the way the world is run and governed by inculcating certain political ideologies. Such belief systems often bear no relation to actual fact or objective reality. In fact, it is the rule rather than exception that if you take a government policy or so-called "scientific fact" and flip it 180°, you will reach the truth of the matter. British philosopher, Bertrand Russell, went to some length in explaining how mass psychology (i.e. brainwashing) would be "the most important tool politically in the 21st century" in his book The Impact of Science on Society.
