Paul Thorpe did an interesting video on his take of the Rolex brouhaha/shortage. He said Rolex is maneuvering to compete head-to-head with Patek, and Tudor will move up basically be the replacement in the market for Rolex. I would have thought Omega would move up.
I'm not sure Omega has much margin of manoeuvre to move further up, they won't let it overlap with Breguet which is at the top. Rolex on the other hand has no brand above themselves so they're free to chase Patek.
Interesting as always. I found Japan really great for some of the other brands, in particular there were some good deals on speedys. Every type of speedy as you alluded to. The sheer selection in one place means you can actually try on and get a feel some rare watches which isn't normally possible.
Omega Speedmaster Snoopy. The Omega Seamaster was nice too, black dial discontinued model; not sure if that was a quartz or auto version though but either way that would be good too .
Wow! That GS SBGR307 is only $4,000 CAD after exchange rate. To buy that at a dealer in Toronto would be $5,700 before taxes. If I live another 10 years to see 50 I think I will have my birthday in Japan and buy a watch to celebrate!
I would get that Breguet. There are tons of great watch deals out there. You just need to think for yourself, not follow the bandwagon, and don’t try to convince yourself that you are going to be making money off your watches.
Great vid Austin! I'm always amazed of the huge Japanese preowned market. We all know Rolex is the king but it is nice and refreshing to see other brands.

I really like the new model SMP black dial shown at 4:40. Lots for your money. They came out in blue dial as well but I believe the black is harder to find.
The very last Seiko shown (at 3:27) is the one I bought during my last trip to Fukuoka. (airport identifier: FUK). Love a Prospex with the crown at 12 o clock and the lack of crown guard. Deep blue dial on rubber strap. The lume can be seen from the moon.
Please spend a little more time on the prices for each model, also give the dollar amount more often. Thanks😊. It would also be cool if you could interview Japanese enthusiasts on the street, when you see them wearing a great watch. It would be interesting to know what type of watches they really like.
That Aqua Terra did look quite nice! Love the dial. My pick of the bunch is the Omega DeVille Chronoscope at 6:15 (sandwiched between the Speedmaster Moonphase and the panda dial Speedmaster Racing)!
Liked that black dialed Brequet chrono as well it seemed to be a good price at $5500 as well as the orange bezeled Planet Ocean ...I paid 2850 (excellent condition) for one in Kuala Lumpur in this shop $2700 is a great price depending on the condition.

That red dial Omega is the Michael Schumacher edition if I'm not mistaken. I had one of those on a red leather strap in the early 2000s but at some point was sick of it and changed it to a black dial/strap.
Thanks Austin for showing us this. Cool vid! I think you would enjoy that vintage Omega Seamaster 300 (one on the right). It's a steel sports watch with a bezel that you like and a comparable Rolex from that period would cost a lot more. You could get a deal on it (trade in one of your Aquanauts+cash?) I think the Aqua Terra is a bit dressy and you would not wear it very much.

I have been eyeing an omega speedmaster but it think the difference is that i want sapphire crystal and automatic with open bottom case. I think then the price will be higher? Or i am eyeing a grand seiko shunbun springdrive or something that fits my budget. Thanks for the vid it helps me with my visit
I bought my omega speedmaster reduced from that store you went to in shinjuku just last year! 1.3k usd full set from 2009. Too bad I didn’t wait til I got to shibuya they had the same one same condition for $100 less. Hopefully I’ll bump into you when I go back this December!

You're not going to have to worry about fake watches from these stores, so you can put that concern to rest. Instead of recommending a store, I'd recommend you hit many stores, and go for the best piece among them. At Nakano Broadway, you'll have plenty of choices!
Other watch brands? Thumbs down! Not watching! Kidding. I visited Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and IWC yesterday. The first store had several customers and the next two had zero. I got a hug at the Rolex store (for obvious reasons), a warm welcome and a handshake at the Patek store, an eager salesperson at AP, and begging and pleading at the last one. ;)
@@watchsymposium Haha, yep! Fortunately, I don't have to beg at Rolex. They take better care of me than I do of them, but we see each other as having a mutually beneficial thing going! I have a great relationship with several people, so I'm one of the few lucky ones.

Why am I watching this? I thing we are many to follow this channel to know if we can find bargain on watches in Japan. And this is never discussed in the video! What is the point to see footage of watches we already know? Austin, where is the discussion? What is your analysis of your footage? It seems to me that watches are overpriced in Japan, no bargain, no good deal. The conclusion currently is: stay away from the Japanese watch market, and watch another channel, that will take you where you should go to buy watches.
Sir, Forgive me if I made a mistake.. But how can they sell brand new Tudor submariner? Also This is the first time I have seen different colored Omega and Rolex and They're serving very poorly in a shop window.. Shouldn't they be as an another Omega and Rolex store or retail store? Separated and well served?
