Ben Affleck's tattoo is bad because its technically bad. The shape is not for a back tattoo, the line work is terrible and the colouring as well is blotchy. Also getting a phoenix or any kind of bird on your back is really cliche.

The thing with tats is that they are so personal. Most of them have meaning and everyone has different tastes. I have a lot of tats, but mine are black based and the colors are very subtle when there is color. That's just my taste. I personally dislike tats with a lot of color, but that's just my personal taste. I also like tats that relate to each other and the theme is consistent throughout all the tats. I don't like Ben Affleck's tat because of all the color and the way it was oriented on his back, but I also respect an individual's choice. If he loves his tat, that's all that matters. I'm not into tats that are done to draw attention, but to each his own. I think, for instance, that face tats are just a mistake. Face tats eventually will get to where you want them OFF, and believe me, it is three times as expensive and four times as painful to have the laser or acid done. I also dislike tats are based on tasteless humor, again, a personal choice. It has been my experience that if you get tats that truly have meaning, are done by an excellent artist, have consistency and flow, are the ones you will love for life and not regret having gotten them. I'm over 60 and I don't regret any of my tats - in fact, I still get them done to mark major life events that have meaning to me. Truly bad tats are tats that are done badly by terrible tat artists that have no business doing this sort of work, or idiots that try to do their own tattoos. Have you seen Sexy Vegan lately? Now that's my definition of a horrible set of tattoos.
