Life Saving Operation on a Baby Chicken

It disgusts me how such a simple thing could have been done so much earlier for that chick. It took someone to purchase this poor thing to save her. If they had just wiped the poo off and not let it harden she wouldn't have almost died. It's insane to me how little people care. This man is pure, I'm telling you! Such a little life is still so precious to him!

YES! I've seen it in chicks and pet rats and intervention has rarely been successful. THANK you! I'm sure the release of pressure was a great comfort and saved it's life. And yes, we'd give baby chicks "a warm" which is where we cup them and breathe warm air onto them. You can see their eyes close and their little comfort peeps. Early intervention is essential before the flesh begins to die from the pressure. Thank you for saving her and sharing with us!

Speaking as a chicken owner, this is very easily taken care of when caught early. It doesn't have to get this severe, and it certainly doesn't have to be fatal. Bless this man for being so knowledgeable and caring for these animals. And thank you for taking her home with another chick!

We have been through this too my mother used to put our chickens in such situation in a little warm water small bowl than keep the chicken inside for an hour than start doing the same procedure he has done. This is pasty butt, common in chicks all the original owners had to do was remove it before it even built up this much. That's part of maintenance of having chicks. 🤦🤦 Keeping up with their water intake is also important for their first 14 days of life. I'm glad he was able to save this one since the original owners clearly had no idea.

This is called “Pasty butt” it is a big danger to chicks at a very young age, but can easily be avoided by anyone who can foster them and it’s easy to do so, though this one has gone too far from that window of time, and needs special care

We have chickens , my 2 daughters call themselves the farmer helpers .. always finding the baby chicks that fall behind , lost or hurt.. so I’m glad I saw this incase we ever have a plugged one 🙏🏻 I think it’s the food they gave them because I’ve lived in a farm with chickens for about 30years and never seen anything like this one

Oh goodness seeing them both grown and roaming is what got me! I've known a couple birds that faced this issue. From large, free flight aviaries where it wasn't that visible, and they were generally acting normal. One passed away abruptly, but the other thankfully had weakened to where he was on the ground and was picked up. His poop was all liquid but stuck inside, pasted only a tiny bit. I knew if he hadn't outwardly shown he was sick like he did that he would've died in the next couple days like the other bird. I'm so grateful for his life that he was able to be saved. Couldn't stop thinking about him during this video of this poor little lady that gets to thrive because of some effort and TLC.

I won't speak trash about the original owner, mainly because it looked like they'd hatched out quite the load of chicks. It can be quite easy to miss one out of dozens. This man, though, this 'Father Nature' if you will, has eyes like an eagle when it comes to birds/creatures in need. Thank you, gentle soul, for caring for these helpless animals

👏👏 Sadly, this pasty butt issue is common especially in feed stores. I'm known in my town as the Crazy Chicken Lady because I take chicks out of the local store brooder, whisk them to the bathroom and clean their bottoms. Yes, it's weird but I've seen too many lying dead that didn't have to be. I just LOVE these videos so much! He's a hero in my eyes. ♥️🐤

It is always good to see clips of someone who has an obvious love of animals. It is commonly called pasty butt and not that uncommon especially in overcrowded conditions. If you stick it's back side in a cup/bowl of warm water until it penetrates and softens all the poo you can then use the sprayer at your kitchen sink at a low pressure spray the rehydrated poo gently, again with slightly warm water and it should start washing away. If it is stubborn you can squirt a little Dawn on the backside and with either a gloved hand or q tips, if squeamish, gently massage the Dawn into the soft poo and then gently spray again with warm water. Repeat as needed until clean and aid with expressing internal contents if needed. This will be much more gentle and produce less pain then prying the still hard feces off their backside and ripping out some of their fluff. Some people will then use a blow-dryer on the lowest heat and air setting to dry them off which is much more sanitary and reduces the possibility of fecal contamination to the human then getting your lips next to their body which even if you don't press lips against the little body as you try to warm them up you can inhale airborne fecal matter (anyone heard of avian flu?). It's also a good practice to keep an eye on them for the next few days to make sure they don't get their bottom sealed up again with poo and if they do it can be cleaned off before it causes any problems. Safety for both animal and human is always a good practice.

I love what you do, as an animal lover, having a "natural affinity" as I've been told multiple times with animals, and qualifying as a veterinary care assistant, I'd love to do what you do! I had a kitten with the same problem. She was in a cage in a pet store but unable to eat the solid food provided. So she...ate what soft "material" she could find. Of course this lead to a terrible case of worms that blocked her intestines. She was in the vet's care for days, and suffered many, many treatments both oral and otherwise. Poor thing was only 4 weeks old.... But she made it! On the last morning, the vet called saying she passed the blockage and we took her home that day (after a bath of course). She lived a long, happy life but never ate wet food ever again 😂 It's fine, I understood

Hi, A chick called Albert guy, I would like to praise your genius. Its been less than two weeks that I accidentally watched this video for educational purposes. Not if I would have chickens at all, but these skills are treasure in life. I do have some experience with animal care, tho. So, I came across a sick chick today and I instantly spotted the issue. I did what I had to and after few hours sleep… I’m still crossing my fingers but I think she’s ready to meet life now.
