It’s crazy to hear influencers say they don’t feel that successful when you’ve been watching them accomplish more and more every year. And you believe they are very successful. It makes you wonder what is this thing we are all chasing. Do you ever really get there or is it more important to enjoy the journey? But there are a lot of creators who just encourage you to buy more stuff and seek happiness externally. Consume, not produce. I don’t feel like that about this channel. But that doesn’t seem fulfilling or positively influential.

HI ISI! I just felt in my heart that I wanted to write this message to you. I have been watching your channel since I was either in the 6th or 7th grade, I am now a senior in HS preparing for the crazy journey that is college. Through my years of watching you I have gone through some pretty devastating things. I originally started watching for your hair videos because I had to learn how to make my hair presentable for school since during that time it was just me and my dad. I would force him to watch the videos with me so that we both could learn how to care for my hair. As I got older you were obviously growing and getting older too and it may seem strange to say but every phase of content that you went through kind of came just at the rights points for each stage in my life. I was in HS when you started the kitty hygiene videos, I was depressed when you started the self care videos, My skin was breaking out when you started the skin care videos and I needed someone to "talk"/ listen to when you started the vent videos. I may not know you in real life but when you said that you are living in an answered prayer I hope you know that that also includes your prayer for inspiring and helping those around you. It's funny but as you enter your cOntent where you talk more and more about your experience with God, my father (who is a pastor) has been helping and guidIng me more lately into the bible which is now leading to me making my own efforts to create my own relationship with God. I hope that if you read this it has helped you forgive yourself, because even in some of your darkest moments you were still able to shine so brightly and help others. GOD BLESS YOU!!!

Some people REALLY are having a great time and enjoying their life and posting on Instagram REAL happy moments and times. The problem is definitely social media..the programming thru the algorithms to the comparison issues..social media detox’s are a must. The moment I got off and really started paying attention to me and the world around me and really poured into me and not aimlessly just scrolling all day, the mindset shift was my biggest blessing. Siissss I felt this video so much, particularly as a nano-influencer who's having slow but steady growth. Some days I feel so "behind" because the brand deals aren't flowing in and it seems like they are more willing to pursue bigger (but less authentic) influencers. *Confession time* I have even had moments of scrolling your profile and feeling less than because your aesthetic always looked so CRISPY and mine seemed so random. Of course its all in my own head. I needed to focus on ME and being MY authentic self regardless on if my bag is bagging or brands are overflowing my inbox. PERIODT.

I was literally complaining about the exact same thing yesterday with one of my friends and the person just didn’t understand what I was trying to explain and it just made me feel worse because I thought I was the only person going through this. I totally understand this as someone who has been unemployed since 2020 and lost alot because of it. Lost in love and was heartbroken through alot of it but honestly it's wildddd to hear someone in your position, with your career, with your friend circle, your family, your love life etc saying this but it just goes to show we all are human and we all want what we don't have. We only see things from OUR perspective and comparison really is the thief of joy. What helped me is using it as motivation instead of being jealous. I feel and have felt EVERYTHING you said as far as insecurity, not feeling fulfilled or accomplished, comparing myself to others, perfectionism, feelings of lack DESPITE being Pro-Black EVERYTHING...but I'm truly surprised that YOU feel/felt that, Isi. That's crazy...but thankfully, you and Josh are having those important conversations that bring you "back to the middle." ❤️ I gotta keep it real now.... (I NEVER thought I'd admit this aloud, let alone DIRECTLY to you), but everything you said you were feeling about seeing other people's lives online is how I eventually started to feel about you and Josh. I first started out watching this channel for your hair content, started to enjoy your vibe and personality...then I found out about your couple's channel. And I usually don't do couple's channels but y'all channel was so REFRESHING, so DIFFERENT, so AUTHENTIC, so BLACK! I got a charge of inspiration and Black pride whenever I watched y'all. PLUS the depth of your content helped to educate me and even improve myself and my own relationship in a lot of ways. But then...that thief of joy snuck up on me one day. Slowly but surely, I went from pure, genuine joy from watching y'all to comparing myself to every aspect of life you chose to share with the world. From wondering why my skin wasn't as clear and my hair wasn't as "healthy" and long as yours to how come MY man isn't more like JOSH? (And this is HORRIBLE because I have an AMAZING man who's legit just right for me. We were truly made for each other, as I came to realize over the years we've been together)... So my little comparisons started to go from my internal dialogue to leaking over aloud into my relationship and my MAN noticed it. He knew of y'all. Even watched some videos with me from time to time. But just like how Josh pointed out to you the effects social media was having on your mood, HE pointed to me how I would act after I (binge) watched y'all videos and content...ESPECIALLY after y'all got engaged. We're not married (yet), and I started to feel a way about it. Seeing your joy and even how driven, focused, and goal-oriented y'all were for your brands triggered an insecurity of being unmarried and never accomplishing my own goals that's already been inside of me, etc. Long story short(er), he literally BANNED me from watching your videos lol. Ridiculous, I know. Like, how does a man tell my grown-ass what to do, right? But he was honestly doing me a favor and with my best interests at heart because we were getting into arguments and EVERYTHING just because my insecure self was starting shit! It got to a point where I would SNEAK to watch your videos, then I realized he was right. I started watching less and less, then that led to me turning your notifications off, which led to me unsubscribing from the couple's channel, then lastly and eventually unsubscribing from your channel and all your other social media, too. I had finally come to have the realization and make the decision to take my own mental health and well-being into my own hands and step away from social media altogether, just like you did. But after a long period of time passed and I worked (and I'm STILL working) on myself, you crossed my mind and I thought to peek in and see what was up. I STILL wanted to see y'all wedding content, you know! And that's when I saw the video about how y'all moved to Patreon. I didn't subscribe right away, but when I did, I was amazed at the content there and genuinely enjoyed it again. Plus my curiosity was satisfied! Lol. Y'all did the damn thang! But back to the original point, I truly feel and understand every point you made and I truly appreciate you using your platform to shed light on all these things so that we all don't feel alone or crazy anymore. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Definitely feel the same. I’ve always put more emphasis on my intelligence than anything else. Didn’t start emphasizing my beauty until college. But seeing my friend be a successful and beautiful black nurse as well as my peers from university both motivates me and makes me feel unaccomplished because I’m not where I want to be. I feel stunted but I keep moving forward because I refuse to stop until I’m at a place where I’m content.

i started watching for the natural hair videos but i appreciate these types of videos so much. they’re extremely refreshing considering i’m on the same journey. i DO feel seen! i was very young when i first subscribed about 5/6 years ago. i’m still young but also in that stage where i’m still trying to grasp the meaning of life, figure out how to accomplish my dreams while seeing so many of my peers win. i’ve been off (scrolling through) social media for the majority of the year in hopes of really focusing on what it is that i want and trying to muster the strength to put action behind those thoughts. i’m in a space where i’ve really just been focusing on digging deep to discover me so trust you’re not alone!

When you spoke about how no one knows what they are doing, it reminded me of a scripture that I discovered recently and I have been pondering on it. Prov 20: 24; man steps are ordered by the Lord, how can a man understand his doings. This spoke volumes to me. I currently have been dealing with the same thing and you're absolutely right about calling it for what it is and thats being a hater. I'm always happy to see other women like myself or even men doing great things but then I begin to feel low because I look at my life and feel as if I haven't done enough. It does take a serious toll on the mental health and iv'e decided to take a hugeee step back from being on my socials and to work on myself so I can feel more better about myself. So when I do see other doing amazing things I won't feel low or give off that hater energy because that's not me. My favorite part of this video that reached me was that we have to forgive ourselves and stop beating ourselves up about the past or what we could’ve/should’ve done in certain situations. I look back at my past self who was skinnier and felt so motivated and would beat myself up for letting myself go. It’s a tough battle

I need to though but I be scared imma mess around and not be able to get back in! I definitely feel you on the grief stuff! I lost my grandma this year and she was a VERY pivotal part of my life. It is completely eye opening, alarming, and scary to see your loved ones get older and leave their physical form. I feel you on all levels many of these stuff you talked about was and is definitely a part of me that I was hiding and didn't want to admit to . I usually would look at people's life on social media and be so jealous yet still claim that I am happy for them but there is something in me that is so great that other people would see it except me . Isi you hit it on the head. This is almost the same thing I have been struggling with and it was ruining my peace, comparison really steals joy and it was taking away from the special things that make me me and make me stand out. If a person doesn’t like me then my platform is just not for THEM but by not being me I’m missing out on my true purpose being on social media and in real life, I’m missing out on the beauty of my journey. It felt worse because I assumed No one was going through what I was and began beating myself up for the mistakes old me made.
