Zoe, change is crazy difficult and your changing focus in your career - I did not fulfil my ambition in life UNTIL I was 50 !!! 50 - I had wanted to be a nurse since I was 6 and I finally got over my fear of failure (lots of prayers and trust) and got into a nursing program at 48...My youngest was graduating from high school - so at any age you can do it - believe in yourself - trust your gut and try not to second guess. @@simsamurai333 I worked in a hospital and floated ( worked without knowing where I was going each shift) to ER/ Ob/ surgical any where they needed someone ! It helped me learn meds and tele so nursing was easier ..: l started in Lab as a phlebotomist… and they hired me and taught me as I worked .. I was very lucky 🤣
Please don’t censor yourself in terms of being sad. I love growth you’ve had in mental health and being kinder to yourself but I also love the raw vulnerable moments when things don’t go your way. I dealing with those makes it more relatable.

Girl once we decided we wanted to get engaged I went shopping with my then bf just to make sure I liked the shape and size I had in mind, then designed my engagement ring fully on my own, was legit emailing back and forth with the company til I had it perfect, and literally just had him pay for it 😂 you’re going to wear it forever it should be what you want!

I personally think there should be an element of surprise in the ring! I think he should know what you like and what size rock you prefer. I’ve gone to try rings on on my own so he has an idea but I would ultimately want him to choose it. But anyway how exciting!!!!!!!

Totally agree with what you’re saying about current events/news. It’s not good for our wellbeing to constantly dwell on terrible things outside of our control. It doesn’t help those who are suffering and it’s bad for us too! Some people are so aggressive because celebrities aren’t speaking about it but since when are all celebrities news readers?! Entertainment has and always will be a form of escapism.
I love your channel and have been watching since 2020 because of how real and raw you have always been with us. It's rare, and I mean really RARE to find a RU-vidr who documents their life - the good and the bad. I watch a lot of RU-vidrs and 90% of the time their life looks perfect, which is fun to watch sometimes but frustrating most of the times thinking how unrealistic it is. Love these long q&as! On the engagement stuff - I just got engaged last weekend at the top of Mont Royal :) And you're SO right - engagements are not all that 'glamorous' because there is a lot of planning and discussion that goes into them. I knew it was coming at some point this year because my boyfriend (now fiancé) and I talked about it so much and we've been together for 5 years + live together. We went ring shopping together a few times, but rather than put the pressure on while doing this we framed it as a date night where we'd just walk around ring stores to get a sense of what I like and what the budget is, then go for a sweet little treat somewhere. This made it fun and allowed us to keep it casual. Talking about rings with your partner is super important, particularly to know their ring budget and whether you have certain values that should be reflected in the ring choice (e.g. I wanted lab-grown for sustainability and ethical reasons). All of the staff at the ring stores were very helpful and didn't pressure us, which was a huge relief for me because I was super nervous to say no and walk out of stores, haha.
On engagement shopping: I did some research on local jewelers first and then we went and designed my ring together and then I handed it off to my boyfriend to buy and plan the rest. I really wanted to make sure I love it lol
I really think it should be a surprise. Never heard of people who go ring shopping and chose their own rings BEFORE the quastion. At least it happens after he asks. Never before. That takes all the romance away from it in my opinion.
My now husband actually got me engagement earrings because I am not much of a fancy ring person. I now wear a simple titanium wedding band. So convenient.
From a Type A person: On the engagement topic: I did not go ring shopping with my husband, I just showed him some rings I liked and he chose something with the same aesthetic. The proposal: I told him not to propose on disney (we had a trip to orlando and NY booked), to not propose in front of family, it could be in public, but not with anyone I knew. I said the proposal needed to be “out loud”, no “will you marry me” written on a plate of food. And I said I would like it to be registered, even with an iPhone… but he ended up hiring a photographer! We had a perfect proposal for us 🤍

Personally I'm so glad my proposal was a complete surprise. I had NO idea what ring he was going to pick as I gave him zero clues/hints. We never looked at rings together, and honestly I never even thought we were getting married. Imo, it's not a surprise if you tell him what ring to pick and doesn't feel as special if you had to tell him exactly what you want.

My now husband and I looked at rings together to figure out what style of ring I wanted, we decided a budget amount and we each contributed 50/50. Untraditional, but we were new college grads (didn't have much money to begin with), but that was the beginning practice of us sharing finances. His ring choice was under budget and the remaining amount we put towards our wedding fund. :) We still had the proposal be a surprise to me, private and in our home. This September, We've been together for 12 years and married for 4 years.

I did exactly what you’re talking about doing. Went engagement ring shopping with my best friend to try on a bunch of rings. Then when i narrowed down the jeweller I went with my now husband and I narrowed it down to two rings that I loved. He eventually went back with my bestie and bought the ring. I knew the engagement was coming before because we had talked about it but I didn’t know when. It was about 3-4 months after ring shopping. It’s fun to go try on rings with a friend, totally do it!
Not my story but one of my closest friend's boyfriend proposed to her without ever talking about it (we're in Quebec too, where living together and being "conjoints" - common law? is as common if not more than marriage) and she said yes because she wants a life with him but because they never talked about it, the ring wasn't at all her style nor what she wanted, the wedding planning was a mess etc etc. It's so important to talk about it!!! so excited for you based off your hints! haha

I knew we were serious and he asked what the size of my finger was but i was totally surprised because a lot was going on (house renovation, family health issues) so I was totally blown away and so so happy. The proposal was magic and when i saw the ring i gasped it is THE most perfect ring❤

This is exactly what I have been going through! I invested in some quality clothing pieces (all cotton, linen, wool) and home pieces that will last a very long time and initially it was a sticker shock, but I feel so happy with what I got and some also went towards my business so it’s been good overall. And for me this investment is for health purposes to avoid microplastics and faze them out over time. It’s nice to see these real fluctuations. Since I invested in some real materials like leather phone case I know the more durable materials will last longer and also it’s for overall health. Thank you so much for sharing because I feel so happy to know I’m not the only one. 😊

I just got engaged recently and to answer your question most people go shopping with their partner! Our jeweler told us that it’s like 80% of couples he sees nowadays. But mine was not a surprise at all, and that’s what I wanted! It’s up to you and what you want! So if you want it to be a surprise, express that to JS :)
Hi Zoe, always love a chatty video! My boyfriend and I went to three different jewelers together. I was in the same boat as you and did not know exactly what I wanted. I also did not want to pick out my exact ring with my boyfriend. Going ring browsing together seemed like the right option for us! I also made a Pinterest board because every jeweler we went to didn't have a lot of inventory to try on. Apparently almost all engagement rings are custom these days so they don't keep much on hand. I saved rings with different details that I liked to help give him more ideas to references.

I actually just went engagement ring shopping with my bf. You’re right, this isn’t really talked about and I had no idea what way to go. Omg your investment framework came at the perfect time for me. I stopped working for close to four months as I was moving internationally. I also lost close to 50lbs which had meant a lot of expenses to purchase clothing, household goods etc. I am really happy with my body now and it’s so nice to wear stuff I wouldn’t before but it costs so much. In addition to a big move. I have money saved and I know I’ve prepared for it but the fact that my money is being spent makes me feel so guilty. But it definitely is an investment for me. ❤
My iPhone had a news widget as a default and I got rid of it last year. I didn’t need to see the news every time I opened up my phone. I’m a lot more calm, less stimulated. It was a great choice for me. Especially since there is so much happening.
I agree on your philosophy with splitting costs within a relationship. My partner will soon be making double my salary so splitting things according to our respective salaries is what feels fair, compared to going half and half
My husband proposed with a temporary ring (£30 from Amazon and its amazing how realistic it looks) because I was unsure of exactly what I wanted and we also felt weird about going ring shopping together before the proposal. After he proposed I realised I actually liked the style he’d chosen 😂 and we went to design the final ring together adding a few tweaks (e.g. gold instead of silver). Now we have the temp one to keep forever as a souvenir of the proposal day!

Hi Zoe - re: ring shopping and getting engaged, I hope the following helps! 💍💍💍 My partner proposed last May, on the anniversary of our first date, after we were together for 4 years. Neither the proposal nor the ring was a surprise to me, and I'm really glad they weren't, because 1. Getting engaged is such a major life decision and commitment to one another - I think it's super important both people are on the exact same page when it happens, and 2. There were so many moments of joy in the process leading up the proposal, which wouldn't have been possible if the whole thing was kept as a surprise. That being said, there were still some smaller surprises along the way, which I'm super thankful for. For example, although throughout our relationship my partner and I would have regular-ish 'check-in' chats about how we saw our future together playing out, one day, he really _did_ surprise me with a date to go ring shopping. Tbh, that shopping date was low-key disappointing for both of us, because we didn't find anything I was excited about - I know I can be super picky, but it was just that none of the rings _felt_ right. So, we ultimately decided to get a custom ring. Although we were both involved in that process and I approved the final design, I was still surprised when he proposed with the ring - seeing it IRL was SO different than the sketches and CAD models we saw along the way. I'm so happy things happened exactly how they did - the ring turned out to be stunning and perfect, but more importantly, it really felt like we were working together as a team throughout the whole process. I know what worked for us may not work for other couples, but in the end, I think what matters most is that you're both on the same page about your future together, open and honest with each other, and caring/supportive of each other's needs. On buying a house 50/50: I think it depends how you come up with your budget for the cost of your home. If you consider the total of both of your incomes when shopping for houses, then it’s not fair to then ask the person that makes less to fork up 50% of the mortgage. If you instead shop for homes with a smaller budget based on double the smaller income of the two, then maybe you can agree to split the mortgage 50/50. It’s a very personal decision that you should discuss before you make a significant joint purchase like a house.
Married🙋🏼♀️ I went ring shopping with my then bf and picked out my ring. I knew what I wanted because I wanted the same ring as my mom but I wanted to see it in rose gold, try it on and get sized. I talked about what kind of proposal I wanted so I was also able to tell when it was coming.

Ring shopping.. never been and I haven't pushed it and still unmarried age 39, but we've been together for 19 years with two kids. If it's something that's important to you, I would suggest to push it more because in my experience the man won't be interested if you're not 😂 could be wrong but let's just say it's a good job it wasn't that important to me. I thinks it's so funny that many people say that an engangement doesn't come as a surprise and that they have talked about it before it happens. I don't think I know any couple that has happend to! It's always a surprise when it happens! Of course many people have talked about marrigde, babies etc, but if you get asked five years after you talked about it, it is a surprise. I didn’t like the idea of going to pick a ring with my husband. I wanted an element of surprise. I think it’s normal to talk about marriage and goals (almost weird to not have those conversations) and my husband knew the shape of Diamond I wanted and that I wanted yellow gold and simple. From there I wanted to leave it up to him. That being said I also have really close friends that literally picked out what they wanted with their husband and even knew around when they would get engaged. So I say do what feels right for you.
Zoe, this made me feel better. I am taking 2500 out of my bank account for our pellet stove installation next month- which will save us a lot on our heating bills. But it is a return on investment for sure!

Interesting view regards buying a house with JS - I think it depends on where your relationship is. So JS puts in 90% and you put in 10% and in 5yrs you break up (may or not be married but no children) So you walk away with your 10% or are you expecting 50% ?

I wonder if the length of time is a factor - would you feel the same after 6 mths and what is an appropriate length of time ?
this was not it. no one is relying on influencers to be their news source. you have a large platform and can use it for reach. you speak openly about being lebanese and havent shown any support even casually. there are plenty of influencers who show their support regularly in their content without bringing up the "negativity" as you put it. youve spoken about starbucks in a super recent vid and mcdonalds in your last one. It wouldve been so easy to not include those. You dont boycott. You dont donate (your transparent with your money vids). You could be doing something but youre choosing to look away and now encouraging others to do the same in a "therapy self-care" packaged western individualism.
