I tell my story on how I became paralyzed from the waist down 31 years ago. After living my life these past 31 years being paralyzed, I have forgotten how sad it was when I first got hurt injured. I will be sharing some vulnerable moments, but I hope it will help those who are unfortunately starting a similar journey. This is part one of "Life With a Spinal Cord Injury" in honor of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month.

I was injured in 2001, about 6 months before 9/11. You're doing quite well for the length of time this has been going on. It sparked a spiritual awakening that brought me to places that I probably wouldn't have gone otherwise. I've experienced Ephesians 5:14, which I didn't previously Innerstand. God bless you, coach Vic! You're an awesome example of how you can live a full life after sci. ❤🙏❤️

I appreciate you telling your story CoachVic. Thank you for sharing. I actually started following your RU-vid channel a couple/few weeks ago. I can relate to a lot of what you said here as you shared with us. Had me a little emotional in some stories! One thing I’ve learned though a couple of decades ago is to say; I was in a Car Crash not a Car Accident. My doctors back then didn’t give my parents much hope that I’d make it through the night. It will be 40 years for myself on 11-11-20 since my car crash that left me a paraplegic T-4/5 complete as a young 19 year old woman. I was life flighted to a trauma hospital around 1a.m. and was in a coma for three days. Was in the hospital for a month before being transported to Sharps Rehab in San Diego where I spent the next 5 months before being discharged and living a new way of life in a wheelchair. I’m blessed to have given birth a baby daughter who is now 22.

I’ve really loved watching your videos. I’m only 3 months into my SCI. It makes me feel better to hear others tell their story. The part about people being shocked and you consoling them instead of the other way around. Yep! 💜

Coach Bob3...you have no clue how bad your advice was at 17:30. Many people in wheelchairs have really bad attitudes and they seriously resent people who ask them if they want to help. They feel as if the one asking to help are being demeaning.

Amazing story Coach Vic. Words escape me, but you have achieved so much by sheer determination (and faith). I know this video is intended for others who have sustained life changing injuries, but it’s equally appropriate for anyone. You show everyone how to really ‘live’, no matter your physical abilities. Thank you for sharing. You and Coach Bob are truly positive influences in today’s world.

What a compelling story! Thank you so much for the inspiration. My wife and I have been watching your Spyder videos to help us plan and dream, but this was really an added bonus! Your story is helping to give our story a voice, and to know that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. My wife has been on oxygen full time for over 15 years, and is now on 4 liters per minute, and we have had to learn how to adapt and innovate in order to continue our love of travelling. We have learned so much about how to overcome the obstacles safely, and we want to help others so that oxygen dependent travelers can still go by car, van, rv, plane, boat or bike, and don't have to continually reinvent the wheel. As we go through your videos, I'm working on plans for a Spyder Limited that supports a larger portable oxygen concentrator with backup, and a trailer like yours with a generator that powers a home unit like the one that we carry in our SUV. We hope to start by blogging and telling our story very soon. We get so much inspiration from you two and others. Your story is personal and unique, and I learned a lot from hearing it. Please keep expressing yourself!

I had to chuckle at the 12:30 mark, as I pulled the vac hose out of my nose twice in one night during a 9 day hospital stay. They threatened to strap my wrists if I did it again. Incredibly educational video. Thank you for sharing. Because of life experiences (not mine, thankfully) I’ve become a mental health advocate, I’m so impressed that you advocate for others. Amazing couple, amazing woman, amazing video. I’m impressed and I’m not easily impressed!

Definitely a good guy. At first I thought they met before the accident. I was like wow, he stayed with her. But when I learned they met after, things made more sense. Like, he knew the deal when he came in. Would I have stayed with her if we had met before the accident? Probably not. I guess I am not that giving a person in that sense.
