I can understand you I'm Leagley blind myself mine came from Damage to my optic nurv when I had surgery on the right side of my head because of a cyst left eye is blind right eye is 2200 vision.
I also have problems with depth perception and my white came picks up objects etc so that I don't fall or trip over things,I have the same problems with going from a dark or bright room etc and I use a wrap around sunglasses over my glasses,I have a lighted 4× the strength magnifier that I use to read books, magazines, adult coloring books etc.
Hi Amy,I am also legally blind with limited vision,I wear glasses and I use a white cane with a roller ball tip.I have been legally blind since I was 3 years old and I am 58 years old.My very low vision and weak compromised immunity etc are from me being born three months premature and I had to spend the first four months in the incubator.I have type 2 diabetes since January 2012 and I am on a lot of meds and insulin.I still have ongoing eye problems with many doctor and specialists due to my health issues etc.
Amy I love your video and I enjoyed watching it and listening to you talk about your diabetes eye problem. I have a little bit of changes in my eyes but they are under control for now with many visits to my eye doctor and specialists
I'm like you Amy I have gastroparesis, and have very low vision in one eye and blind in the other . I have many other chronic illness aswell. Receive services from the state agency on blindness. I pray your doing ok.I live Alabama with you being in Tennessee and being legally blind you would qualify for services from the Tennessee council on the blind. The can help with different items that would help you.plus you can get free audio books and player and maybe large print
I have never used a cane. I still see fairly well, I have no peripheral vision, and I do struggle with depth perception, so curbs and such can be tough, but I don't typically go out anywhere by myself. If I lived in a large city and had to go out, I probably would need a cane.
Was the retinopathy caused because you were having difficulty regulating your blood sugar, or can it happen to anyone with diabetes even if they can keep their blood sugar regulated with medication and/or diet?
It's from the blood sugar being out of control - when I was diagnosed, they said I may have had it for 10 years undetected and it did a lot of damage before we caught it.
Wow! That's horrible! I'm so sorry for everything you have gone through! It's a blessing to see that you can still smile even though you've been through so much.
