The writing is simply poetic... I truly feel like this was more than just a game, but an experience. The audio, visuals, and experiencing life through Senua was just breathtaking. Loss looks so different for everyone and it's an incredibly vulnerable thing to get to see how it looks through someone else. I hope yall enjoyed this replay and enjoy the second one!

This was definitely a roller coaster of an experience, looking forward to the sequel whenever you get around to it! I really enjoyed the performance of Senua's actor, Druth, and whoever voiced Zynbel (I've heard him somewhere else but can't remember) Thanks for replaying this!

I think the warning at the start of the game when you lose the first fight is wonderful. It warns that each time Senua fails her rot will grow and when it reaches her head her quest will be over and all progress will be lost. As gamers we obviously read that as a permadeth thing for the main character dying too many times. That's a great way to give people without mental health conditions a minor view of what out of control anxiety is, given how attached we are to our saves. Yet it's also misleading. The only time the rot actually reaches her head is when she reaches the end and realizes she can't save Dillion, he's just dead, and all that fighting figments of her own creation to bargain with Hela for his soul is for nothing. At that point she realizes her quest IS a fail in and of itself, and her quest is at an end. As to losing all progress, all those fights that we thought were us fighting towards saving Dillion are not real progress and so the "progress" is lost. Instead, she succeeds at accepting reality, and accepting herself with her mental illness. The warning, to my mind, is ultimately very true but very misleading - just like seeing the world under the influence of mental health problems.

True! We all must experience loss in our own way. However, for Senua. this is just the beginning. The sequel, just dropped today and I've already vested 7.9 hours into it. I also agree that Senua's journey, should not have to take some 6 months down the road to complete. On a side note, about the gameplay itself, it does lag a bit, especially, during the dodge rolls. Also, during the beast fight, I've had to experience the battle in TOTAL darkness, as in pitch black darkness-yet with my pilotting skills, Senua survived. My PC specs are are well above the min. game requirements(next-gen in fact). I had no issues hearing the lore stories, those mechancs worked fine. However, I had an issue after crossing one of the beams, in that, I could not move the character, without having the cross the beam again, and then, run back across. Those were the only two issue I've come across.

The game masterfully depicts Senua's psychosis through her hallucinations, delusions, and the voices she hears, blurring the line between reality and her mind's projections. Her journey is a symbolic representation of her internal battles with fear, grief, and trauma, portraying her struggle to cope with her mental condition. As an unreliable narrator, Senua's perspective challenges players to discern what is real and what is a manifestation of her illness. The developers collaborated with neuroscientists and individuals with psychosis to authentically convey this experience. Senua's confrontations, particularly with Hela, symbolize her internal struggle rather than physical battles. In the climax, Senua accepts Dillion's death and her psychosis, symbolized by relinquishing her sword and Hela dropping Dillion's head, representing her letting go of her attachment and obsession. This realization is further emphasized when Hela's face transforms into Senua’s, signifying Senua's acceptance of her inner turmoil. Through a voiceover, Senua acknowledges her suffering but also her strength and resilience, understanding that she must let go of her past and fears to move forward. The final scene shows Senua walking away from Helheim, still hearing voices but in a more harmonious manner, indicating her acceptance of her psychosis as part of herself. The ending signifies Senua coming to terms with her grief and psychosis, confronting her deepest fears, and gaining a clearer understanding of herself and her condition. PS. In Norse mythology, Hela was literally born the way she appears here, with half her body dead and the other half alive. Great playthrough as usual Maggie.

The thing with her mother was that her mother also suffered mental illness. Keep in mind people back in those times didn't understand mental health the way we do now and would probably have thought those suffering from hallucinations and hearing voices were cursed. People are afraid of what they don't understand, and what did societies throughout history do to those they feared? Burned them alive of course.

I'm a little late to finnish this story with you, but I love youtube story games. I love it when you react so honestly and not just become a commentator to the game❤ I am actually very impressed with your gameplay. It makes it possible to see the games through your eyes because I don't have the skills for this kind of game myself.

Her mother had the same condition as Senua and couldn't fight it her husband burnt her to death. Senua's evil father made her feel like a monster with a curse and the village blamed her for the invasion.

Keep in mind, the condition is schizophrenia. She suffers audio and visual hallucinations, and can't tell fantasy from reality. The whole game is from her perspective, and we have no other frame of reference. For all we know, Dillion was just a boy who was nice to her before going to war, and she thought that was love, so she's wandering the forest with his severed head. Everything else could be her hallucination. We have no idea.

Kasta! When you eventually play Final Fantasy X will you play with the classic (original) music or updated music? I highly suggest (as well as everyone else) you play with the original music from the PS2 game. The new music isn't bad necessarily, but it's not the same kind of dynamic music overhaul that FFVII was. You can switch back and forth but this is honestly the most important thing when it comes to experiencing FFX.

Life without loss is one without love. I think you summed up the ending pretty nicely. I will always remember one sentence of you, even if I am not an FF fan. In your playthrough of Remake you said "Everyone needs to have an Aerith in their life." when she was doing what you said Dillion did here in a way, showing Senua how good life can be. I very much agree with that. Theyve put psychosis in a very interesting setting/time period. Certainly back then mental illness was even more mysterious to people than today. This is just my personal opinion, but at the end there with the song, especially when it grabs you like that, I would appreciate it if youd just stay silent until you collected yourself. I know the gut reaction for a content creator is that you need to say something, but I dont think that is true, at least not for me. And also, like I said in an earlier comment, its the perfect song for the end of this game and I would have loved to just listen to it. Last but not least: They actually lied to you with the rot being able to end the game. They only said that to make the fights more intense. I started playing the second game and all I can say is damn, it looks AMAZING. The rest you will need to find out yourself. Edit: Btw, the one rune story at the end, that must be a bug, there is supposed to be one like everywhere else. And the runes in the ring, they show you which you found, so you missed 3 in total.

I agree with you. This game was about Senua going through the stages of grief. It hit hard at the end. The designers of this game did such a great job in storytelling and setting the tone. Graphics and art direction were beautifully detailed. The length is perfect for this serious of a topic. I'm looking forward to the next game in Senua's Saga. Thanks for the playthrough!

The plot of this game is not too complicated, but it is told in a complex way and you have to pay a lot of attention to it and make some deduction. And also accept that her mental illness is as real to her as everything else. Senua is born in a Pict village. Her mother is “touched” and has visions. Her father as a chieftain eventually burns her mother to the pyre when Senua is only five. Senua grows up and discovers she is like her mother. Her father locks her away and apart from anyone else. But she still falls for Dillion and learns to fight watching him. They fall in love, but Senua feels a plague coming and she is shunned. She goes away to fight her “darkness” but when she comes back, everyone has been killed by raiding northmen. Dillion is flayed. Senua finds Druth, a man that escaped the Northmen and he tells her all about the viking gods before dying. Senua then decides she must go to the northmen and kill their underworld goddess to save Dillion’s soul. Is she fighting vikings? Herself? Both? Is she in Hel or just a viking fortress? Both? In the end Senua accepts her “darkness” as part of her, and is finally able to mourn and let go of Dillion.

Interesting end to the game and very well done too for a game I’d personally never play, not my kind game I’m afraid. My favourite parts of this entire play through, apart from all your reactions, has been the story telling from the runes, I love the stories and the way the VA tells them. Can’t wait for the next game you play, hope you enjoy the rest of your Tuesday👍.
