My wife and daughter were both airlifted from a crash we were in back in July 2018. The cost was $27,000 for my wife and $2,400 for my daughter. I honestly believe that there was a billing error for my daughter. In any event our auto insurance covered the cost. I have no doubt that the time saved vs ground transport is the reason they are both still here.
$27K? Lucky you...mine was $54k for a broken foot and broken arm for a 15 minute flight. This is such a RIP off. Nobody asked me if I wanted a helicopter...the first responders just called one
@@cellogirl11rw55 true, but here was a hospital literally 3 miles down the road. I finally got it settled for $3000 because of lack of urgency. Wouldn't have happened without a lawyer.
@@kepler240 yes, it’s terrible, in the UK there is no cost for a life flight, it’s covered by the government and corporate donations. Also many times the flight has a volunteer physician on board, the physicians rotate their volunteer services
Why so many dislikes? :( God bless these men and women who work as the first responders. I used to be a fireman myself in this rural community in southern Idaho in the United States. We would respond to traffic accidents, and on occasion we would also have to set up landing zones for Life Flight. We also trained with them on several occasions, and were shown how the helicopters work and their full setup of medical supplies, etc. they work very long hours sometimes, and have a dedication to their community unlike most. They definitely deserve our respect and admiration.
If it wasn’t for lift flight I wouldn’t be here I was in an atv accident and had really bad brain swelling and was rush to surgery as soon as I arrived at mercy health hospital in Jamestown pa in Ohio
@@ethann.frenchh3016wtf? Hey kid, when you become perfect, you can jump him then. Until that time, don't be jumping someone for a one off. That's a chickenshit move.
For anyone reading this comment, almost all medivac services offer memberships for a minimal amount, like $75 per year to cover the cost in full of any emergency medivac if you end up needing one in that calendar year. Medivac flights can exceed $30,000 in many cases and often times insurance wont cover the cost. These flights can quickly bankrupt you.
Life Flight's founder, Dr. James H. "Red" Duke, Jr., was the medical director for Life Flight from its inception until his death August 25, 2015. To date, Life Flight has flown more than 120,000 patient missions. If you get time, read the story about Dr. Red Duke, very interesting man.
I would never get a helicopter transport from them, or any other company. Only if it is state run, like in Maryland, New Jersey, and possibly Delaware, will I do it if I need it. Those states it is run by the state police, and is paid for by license plate fees. It is free when you need it. The hospital may charge a helicopter off load fee, but that is pennies compared to what companies like Life Flight charge. They are taking advantage of tragedy, by charging $50,000-$60,000 for the service. Insurance only covers so much, so the patient is in the hook for about $30,000 of it. Most patients can't afford that. It's sad because it only costs them about 5% of that to operate the trip. On top of that, they usually are unable to consent to the service when it is called, so they are not conscious when the helo is called, and they are then stuck with that bill for a service, that they had no say in obtaining.
@@jamesdelornhowlandjr.6516 I am a life flight paramedic and it is pretty cool flying in the helicopter And We Get Our Patients Off The Ground In Our Helicopter Within 10 Mins Of Us Being Dispatched to the accident it's a lot of fun being able to ride in a helicopter and save lifes
I feel so sorry for the patient. They probably had no say in the helicopter transport, and now are stuck with a bill for over $50,000 that they cannot pay. EDIT: The only states that it is more cost effective to get the helicopter, are Maryland, New Jersey, and possibly Delaware. Those states have a state run life flight program with their state police helicopters, that is paid for by license plate fees. Free when you need it. The hospital may charge a helocopter off load fee, but that is pennies compared to elsewhere.
@@maxhallman1036 really? I was billed $54K for a helicopter ride for a broken foot and arm so don't assume all helicopter flights are life threatening.
We don’t have a lot of air lifts where I live cause there are 2 good trauma centers in both of my local hospitals so usually these days if the helicopter has to be called it’s for a child that’s needs to be flouting the children’s hospital in LA
I was a volunteer fireman for St.helens Oregon and I have put alot bodies in life flight and the worst call I was on a call using life flight was when a friend who in a motor cycle accident told me don't let me die and as soon as they were talking off i got the message that he died and he left behind a good looking wife and kids. My job was to go up and tell his wife and his family that he died.

Very bad accident, any time A person needs to be air lifted to the hospital isn't a good thing. Anytime any body needs to be airlifted to the hospital means trauma.
Charles Stock yeah but I hear the cost for an airlift is $20,000 or more so if I’m coherent enough and can speak for myself I wouldn’t let them airlift me I would say take me by ground
Hey Joe Riels, do you have an email address at which we could contact you regarding this video? We would be interested to discuss a license to use this video if this is generally possible? (i.e. via email) :) Cheers, Felix
