You're describing a riptide. This was a regular tide. A child can stand up to those sorts of waves when the water goes back.

Rip tides often pull you out in one area and push you back on shore further down the beach. However, it can sometimes be very far out before it pushes you back, and many folks can drown before then. I got pulled out as a small kid on my pink float while the lifeguards weren't paying attention. Fortunately, two men from the beach heard my mother screaming and dragged me to shore. It took both of them to get me out of the current, and I was probably still small enough to carry back then.

When the waves are big and powerful enough, anyone can get knocked down. Rip currents will drag you out.

Rip currents are very dangerous. I remember getting pulled out to sea on my pink float as a small kid. It took two men to pull me out of it. Jessica would need more lifeguards.

You have to remember, as the wave comes crashing from one direction, the sand beneath your feet is being pulled in the opposite. Can be very dangerous.

I have on and off for 50 years, still never managed to stand up. Waves are terrible when you get it smack in the face and tumbled for 30 secs

That is surprising, I live like 15 minutes from Pensacola beach and there are usually only waves during Hurricanes or storms, Our waves are nothing like the ones in this video, be lucky to have waves that are larger than a couple feet. Glad you survived none the less

@@RandumbFPS I’ve been at Pensacola beach and experienced some strong rip tides that would have been very difficult to get out of by trying to swim back to shore. A few times the waves were negligible and I had no visible inclination prior to the moment it found me and began to drag me out.

It's not really painful, it's to make you feel soo close to death and you want them to stop so you spill the beans. But if you've been through torture training like navy seals go through which they will deny they put their troops through torture test, I only know it's real because a close friend I went to school with from middle school and high school and when he got back it took him a year to open up and was real cautious before he said anything. He made sure everything in the house that had a microphone or camera was turned off. I thought he was being paranoid but he said if he was caught talking about the secret training they don't tell the public about, he will do serious time in Fort Leavenworth...

Torture and drowning are way different its really not painful to drown u basically just passout from lack of oxygen happened to me when I was a kid

Fat people ARE more buoyant. Most people that lay on their back and relax, they will float. People with less fat have a harder time floating.

That’s not what it was like for me. I basically held my breath as long as I could, and when I couldn’t get to the surface, slowly blacked out. It was pretty peaceful there towards the end.

I almost drowned twice and it was actually pretty peaceful as I was losing consciousness. I still love the water.

No I was resuscitated as a child it didn't hurt. I just ran out of air and let the water in when I couldn't hold it anymore. Scary but not painful.

Your chest stopping working is not at all the same as drowning. When you breath in enough water in one breath, your body goes into immediate shock, cardiac arrest and you pass out, then you die. There is no pain.

If you are overweight and never had to do physical struggle in your life it is hard to push yourself up in wet sand. Especially if you get a mouthful of saltwater into your throat and eyes. This woman underestimated this situation like so many people do in so many cases nowadays, because everybody thinks they are not responsible for anything and everybody has to come to their aid.

The water specifically where the waves are crashing on the beach is not only too tumultuous, but also too aerated, making floating damn near impossible
