Lifeguard is a Chicago-based noise rock, art punk and post hardcore band. The band is constantly exploring new directions and interesting sonic territory. Pretty much every time I see them they hit me with at least 10-15 minutes of music that's either new or unexpected. Tonight was about 30 minutes of material brand new to my ears, material that the band is planning to record in the near future. When I think of the Chicago youth music scene, all of the great bands here with folks still in high school or college or sometimes even younger, I think of Lifeguard, a band that it seems like the whole youth music community lists as a key influence and point of inspiration. Chicago is rallying around this band and it is easy to see why. ///
