In this video I add a rod holder, fix an already failed bungee mount and add a couple of 6" access/storage hatches. If you have the bungee pull out of the molded hole then you can either try and find it inside the kayak or order a few of the tee-bar toggles below. I decided to tie half hitch knots on the ends when I added the hatches.

Here’s a HOT TIP whenever you cut or drill holes in your boat get a ziplock bag and save any plastic curls or shaving! You can use them to melt and patch any holes you get with the same material your boats already made of👍

Great mods. Now you have a kayak equal to the $600 and $700 10’ kayaks that are on the market. I think your video will be referenced often by folks that want a good 10’ kayak without spending the big bucks. Thanks

That's a sweet hole saw bit, didn't realize they get that big. I did similar mods and really enjoy them, especially the seat mod. It's amazing how much more comfort the seat mod makes a day of fishing.

Finally! A video on how to fix the bungee cords! My Teton's cord was popped out of the hole when I bought it, and it looks trashy just uselessly hanging off the side of my kayak, but I didn't know how to fix it without drilling into the kayak. Never occurred to me to just remove the rod holders to make an access point. I feel like such an idiot!

I think the knots will hold better than those clips.

Excellent how-to video. Thanks for sharing the links to the hatch, hole saw, and rod holder. I did the same thing to mine, based on your video. Only thing I did differently, was I used stainless bolts, washers and locking nuts to attach the hatches to the kayak, as well as run a bead of marine silicone between the kayak and gaskets. Again, great video!

Sorry, total beginner question but im looking to do the same thing essentially as you. To use the bolts you had to first drill a pilot hole right? What size bolt did you get and what size pilot hole did you drill in?
@brmicklos

I put rubber gasket washers down between the boat & accessory when installing stuff to help seal it. Also prevents screws from tearing up the plastic or coming out from vibrations.

Talon? Is that you? Has anyone including the owner thought of a DIY track mounted rail, one that goes across the kayak. I have been on the water 3 out of 4 days since purchasing the teton angler. This video definitely helped me decide! I've been in class .5 to 1 rapids so far, and it was not intentional. Could not believe how I could see ahead of the other kayakers, but I would not attempt swift water unless you, like me, have had training and experience on that type of water.

The bad thing about lifetime kayaks is the bungee cord attachments will rip out if banged around or strapping bags to it. This has happened to my lifetime tamarack pro 103. Forcing me to install front and rear hatches to get access to put bolt washers and nuts to the bungee cord hooks. Also if you want other upgrades the bolt&nut washer option is garanted to not rip out like plastic rivets would if to much force is applyed to them ect.

How important do you think those dry hatches are? I was debating putting them in but I really am against doing any drilling in a kayak. I was thinking of just getting some waterproof containers and bungee cording them to the seat or something so that I can avoid any drilling. Nice video by the way!
@g-wolfoutdoors8150
@g-wolfoutdoors8150 4 года назад
Dry bags are a better solution for items that can be damaged by water. Mainly I like the access into the hull it provides. Also good for storing a first aid kit or things that are rarely used.
@tylerbarnett9418
@tylerbarnett9418 2 года назад

great video man. I really want to get one of these. Trying to see how easy it would be to replace the front and rear shock cords (the ones that aren't right next to the parts you unscrewed). Would you just tie a knot and shove it in with a ram rod? Or is there another opening not pictured in the video?
@g-wolfoutdoors8150
@g-wolfoutdoors8150 4 года назад
After installing the hatches then all the bungee ends are accessible. Without the hatches then you would need to get creative with wire leader or something.

@g-wolfoutdoors8150
@g-wolfoutdoors8150 3 года назад
It tracks ok for a 10' kayak and the stability is decent. If you get your head past the side of the kayak then you will tip over. Same with most kayaks tho. I have a few other videos of the kayak in action.

I just bought the same kayak yesterday. I’m still trying to figure everything out about it. Would those hatches be used for storing catches or can they be used for anything?
@g-wolfoutdoors8150
@g-wolfoutdoors8150 3 года назад
I would use a soft sided cooler for catches. The bags that come with the hatches are not insulated and fish slime could get into the kayak and be hard to clean. They do work good for holding smaller items like first aid kits or tackle.

My bungee strap snapped off on the end furthest from the rod holders. Any advice on how to knot the cord that is furthest from the hole?
@g-wolfoutdoors8150
@g-wolfoutdoors8150 2 года назад
Tape a string to the end of the bungee or a straightened coat hanger and try to feed it to the rod holder area. Then pull it up and tie a knot. Or buy some new toggles and crimp one on and push into the hole. If you install a rear hatch then you can reach everything.

lots of videos of people doing things to their Kayaks, poking holes in them, cutting chunks out, screwing gadgets on them, raising the CG, making them heavy and cumbersome, but not many videos of them actually on the water being used. I think some people tinker with them more than they paddle them.
