This is popularly known as the"Black National Anthem " and is a staple in the Black Church particularly during February, Black History Month. Its means a lot to us'To hear it performed by an interracial choir was particularly meaningful .I have already given them kudos for their rendition of"I Was Glad " This was stirring.❤

Clarence, how right you are. It’s a true staple in the Black communities (coast to coast) and has often given me strength through the years at difficult times in my life. We sang it every Sunday in February during Black History Month! Since l come from a family of aunts who were educators from the segregated Deep South (Mississippi) and me having grown up during the late Civil Rights Movement (late 1960’s-early 1970’s) also in the Deep South, l know the struggle too well! This song is sacred to our people and it sums up our plights and struggles through the years and the many lives lynched, murdered and the many unsung others given for us to enjoy the then unavailable freedom today. I preach it to my children all the time…. Thank you for your timely comment, sir….

Beautiful rendition. As a kid in the 70's we sung or heard it sung many times in the black community.
