Hey Good People,
The Doc is in! You guys know I do the lifter jobs on the Dodge Chargers and other vehicles that have the 3.6 Pentastar engine. Well, I already did the lifters on this LAST YEAR! And it's back in the shop again for a lifter tick....

You are a hard find in the industry, my friend, I fix my own truck 2006 Silverado 4D Crew Cab with 272k miles. Videos and your knowledge and videos are truly an inspiration. I heard the ticking of the injector loud and clear, my stock oil pump is in the trash, and I have a melling high volume high-pressure pump installed, to me it is the key to the longevity of my engine.

I used to work for dodge and this was soo common even with cars with low mileage like less than 30k and fairly new. We were told it was due to a bad batch of parts from factory. Also there’s a tsb that there’s loss of oil pressure due to the oil plugs coming slightly loose ( plugs on cylinder head) also the v6 is known for low oil pressure . Oil pump goes bad quick .

Awesome video, I've always wondered if people realize that our Pentastars need 6 qts of oil not 5. One quart of oil seems like it shouldn't be a big deal but maybe it is.
@jimsix9929
@jimsix9929 Год назад
not a big deal, 5 will get the level to the the bottom of the range and the engine will run better there , better fuel economy, more power, the crankshaft will spin free, just do not let it go any lower

This is very reasonable. If the car is hemorrhaging oil then you cannot warranty any parts. Starving the engine of oil means anything can break. Only way I keep my cars running for 200,000 miles before I sell them. Never used a stethoscope - but I have used a long stemmed screwdriver in its place. It works almost as well.

Also had an injector gone down on me out of nowhere - it was the injector coil, diagnosed by measuring the resistance across injector pins. Should be somewhere in 10s ohm, not Megaohms :D Easy to check and less influence than sticking it into the wire, so preferably one of first to check

That jag has the same engine as the ford mustang and the the F150 trucks the v8 5.0 very good engine. hey Alex, just saw your short about abandoned cars at your shop, I just had the local pd clear out my lot, only problem with that is you dont get paid for them, so from now on if it is not a regular trusted customer, I get the title to the car and hold it before doing repairs, this may not work for everyone, but I am 62 and semi retired, dont care if I lose a few, but if the customer bails out at least I have something I can repair and sell, or scrap, it is so hard to get a title here in ohio, I just have to do it that way

@AlexTheCarDoctor
@AlexTheCarDoctor Год назад
Hey there and thanks for your support. Oil down in the combustion chamber is only necessary when you’re storing the vehicle for a long period of time and if you’re trying to free a seized engine from sitting a long time. if it’s running fine, I won’t mess with it by the way what type of vehicle is it? hey kyled, hope you are well, I think Alex thought you wanted to put oil in the engine, for storage , but if you have oil in the spark plug tubes, then replace the valve cover gaskets, not a real big deal but if it is leaking into the plugs then it will leak onto the exhaust at some point

my dealer told me that they changed 4 bad rockers and it was still ticking and I looked at the valve covers and they never took them off. Still had original RTV sealant and dirt around it. I showed the manager said how did they do it when the valve covers were never taken off. There should be new RTv on a couple spots before the valve cover goes back on. Only 54k on my motor.

Alex, that headlight bulb you put in that car 2 years ago caused an electric impulse that slowly made that injector to fail, I hope most people see the humor in that, and see what good mechanics have to deal with, just because your car was repaired last month does not mean that a new problem is the fault of that repair

CEL light. Rough Idle and decreasing MPG and performance. P0302. Number 2 cylinder failed leakdown test. Low compression in #2 cylinder. Dealer replaced cylinder head, camshafts, rockers,lifters, valves and plugs. Oil change. If metal bits in oil filter the problem will return. $2600 at local dealer.

There is a lawsuit currently for this issue. The issue is in the cams and phasers and chains. I do know that doing an automated cam phaser cleaning every few oil changes will help slow down the issue but it is already known and documented on why this specific system fails the way it does.
