Using a shooting boom fork lift to lift an old roof off a house, then lift up all the materials to build a new one. Video delivering gravel and visiting finished house 3 months later: • Gravel and tour house ...
Was wondering how they didn't see that coming... I mean, they strapped it to the weakest parts of the roof... had they done it the other way across it might have worked.
This was so poorly planned out. I mean they knew that Andrew was bringing a heavy piece of equipment to the job site but didn't provide him with a solid enough surface to be able to lift the roof pieces off of there. Not only that but with how much wood rot the roof had of course it's going to fall apart. I don't blame Andy at all I blame who was running the show. They should have just taken a normal size excavator cave in the roof then send some guys up there to recipsaw the big sections of roof into smaller ones and yeet them off the roof into the trailer. Then again I'm no expert.
@@_V1LKA5_ since when does the GC have to provide a "solid surface" on the site for subs? Wouldn't a surface be relative to the equipment each sub was going to use?
If I remeber right you can calculate something like 1 year is about 7 dog years. If Levi was human he must be more like 110+ years old now. At that age your hip is well allowed to get a tad tired I think.
~~~~ Tough crowd here today...... Yikes!..... Lots of criticism and back seat drivers came out of the wood work about this video ~~~ (no pun intended)...... I see it as a bunch of buddies came together to help one of their own try and remove a very old nasty dangerous to walk on structure so he could build himself a nice home. None of them proclaimed to be roof removing specialists. Roof was unsafe to stand on and take off in pieces by hand. The video has super video footage. Multiple camera angles and outstanding drone footage and shows many aspects of on the job sight occurrences. Andrew is not a fan of wood structure if you recall in previous videos. He even tossed probably two grand in wood trusses off his Castle construction to go with steel instead. Andrew could have just not even posted this video but he offered to share it with us. Please rethink your thoughts folks.
I totally agree! everyone was doing what they could and eventually the job got done. Having built a house, I know that flexibility and improvisation is the best policy to get the job done. Thanks for this comment!
Just be glad you aren't living in the house they remodel. If I were buying a house in the area, I'd be checking if this crew was anywhere within a 1/4 mile of it.
I always think Andrews dogs must be some of the happiest dogs. They spend time outside all the time with him. They also get to experience new areas to explore and get all the sniffs. Also they get to hang out with their best dog friends(Lacy and others) all the time. Best inspectors on YT. :)
It does seem like there could have been better prep among other things. They risk damaging the walls of the house and making a mess. Oh well I liked watching.
Its the dumbest thing ive seen in a while. It is possible to take down those sections of roof in one piece but it would require someone who knew which was was up
I appreciate how mellow everyone was. Again beautifully documented. Even though it was bizarre, no-one wearing hard hats and in fact me yelling at the screen, I built a house myself with my partner and our project “evolved” away from the original plan as well. I guess everyone just does what they can, in the cold sun and who can complain with that view!
This video is more like what the channel was in the beginning... a "normal" work day for CPM. It was fun to see Cody pulling the straps, the equipment getting stuck, and a little disappointing the roof didn't stay in one piece as it was coming down. God bless Levi; he's a good boy.
It has happened. Recently it was a raft of wrong addresses for roofers, who tore off the wrong roof and at least one wanted to be paid to put one back. Beware confused contractors.
Andrew allways gets "a" job done. But he doesn't allways get the job done. In this instant, the approach they took did significant harm to the brick work. Though it's possible they don't even realize it.
PLEASE tell me that those rough sawn beams and live edge boards that were showing @4:35 were rotting.... they appeared to be in great shape. A careful disassembly and that old first growth wood can be worth a significant amount, or in this case reused as the inside wall of the rebuilt upstairs room to retain the heritage and look. A little imagination can save a bunch of money and create a very high-end decor.
Yeah. This was dumb. They should have just removed the old shingles and eff'n redid the thing. Even if the spacing wouldn't meet code on the old timber, looked good enough to tap down ez lock or plywood. Rebuilding trusses? Even if new supports needed to be tacked in, would have been amazing. Unless they were going for some kind of structural integrity that just couldn't be built into the existing trusses or a new roof height, I just don't understand. I'm hoping it was a new roof height and pitch but it looks about the same with the new one. I'm not an expert roofer, but having done 3 smaller jobs this Summer for myself and a neighbor, my initial reaction upon seeing the set-up to this video was "This probably isn't the way."
How do 520 people dislike this video? Literally makes no sense at all! Andrew has the best and real life content on youtube! PLEASE do a walkthrough of the house when it is completely done!
The high winds last night about lifted the roof off from my house ! Had a high of 45 here yesterday and this morning wind chill of minus 30 ! YIKES brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Have a good day everybody
@@TheSleepingonit Thank you , all is good as we only lost power for 5 hours . I am in the far northeast and this weather has a way of happening . Have a great day :-)
boy this video had great suspense in it. thought for sure a couple of times the loader was going to upset or something. was on the edge of my seat. thanks for the video.
They attacked this the wrong way and with no idea of what they really were doing. I've taken roofs off with cranes before and went much faster and easier.
Those workmen that you helped on there property renovation have done a very good job 👍 and I am pleased that Cody and Levi the Lab inspectors are happy with the job too.
I'm having my houses roof picked up and lifted so I can raise its height and make the attic into liveable space this summer! Its a good idea. They just needed to have a structural engineer actually work it out for them before telling you to lift it haha.
Hopefully you're roof was properly constructed and not rotted and only one layer of shingles. Good luck hopefully from the foundation up an engineering firm calculated max possible load and not just what you told them it was going to be used for
@@1STGeneral Yeah its all squared away. We are bracing the roof structure to ensure everything remains square (triangle?). No rot or anything, the roof was just done by the previous owners which is why we went this route rather than ripping everything off. Plus wood is so damn expensive here now thanks to the Derecho. Adding an additional support column in the basement and a few beams to span the floor joists without them sagging. The foundation was overenginered thanks to the developers using a cookie cutter design for both the single and double story homes in the area so its already good to bear the load.
@@woodslisa4529 it would've been a lot of prep time and expense to make it work how they envisioned. maybe they could've supported the center of the roof then peeled off sections of each side. No matter what, it'd probably be about the same result--collapsing and then lifting the debris out. That or spending a lot of time on the prep to pull it off cleanly.
Love your videos bro I think I watched every single one!! Got any old footage of you building the road up to your house? That seems like that was a great project anyway keep it up man you have some great skills !
New tires would cost more than what he paid for that machine. He’s gonna get as much use as he can out of those tires before he buys new ones. I agree with you btw, I’d love to see new tires on them. But those fuckers cost a pretty penny.
I think one of the the things I like about your vids is your can do, can fix ,can make attitude, I have watched enough now to comment a little and you are as we say down under, "as rough as guts and hard on the gear" it bodes well that you are also quite successful with your sometimes dubious methods however I can not help but feel somebody is gonna get hurt, you are generating and applying some serious energy in those machines,chains and slings etc you use, I sincerely hope your Workplace health and safety evolves and improves along with your other achievements, entertaining as always, Be Safe.
Honestly in the age of "Id better watch 10tutorials before trying something" seeing someone just do shit and then dealing with the aftermath is much appreciated, just more fun in my opinion. Also I was surprised in the beginning that there are actual brick houses in the US...
4:49 That's a REALLY old roof. Maybe early 1800's? Definitely not sawmill lumber, that looks like it's all hand cut. If that roof had been disassembled by hand, all that vintage lumber could have been resold for like $30 per board foot. People buy it to use on flooring as it's impossible to get lumber like that nowadays. Look at that huge board at 12:04. Really missed out on a money making opportunity there, but granted, it would have taken a lot longer to disassemble.
everyone says this when they've never dealt with actual "barn wood" nobody wants to pay actual money for real rotten garbage, everyone wants this product called "imitation barn wood" just tore down a barn from 1900 and 90% of it went straight into the fire, there were plenty of sections of 1x boards, all 22" long as they'd all rotted out where they touched the rafters, not to mention the tens of thousands of rusty brad nails in them from the cedar shakes
I was really wanting to see how you were going to take that roof off without wrapping it. I've never seen it done like that. Lo and behold you didn't disappoint. ha ha. Love your stick toitiveness. ha ha
You guys had way too much fun doing the roof..... and you got paid for it as well !! Brill !! It seems that that roof was past its sell by date as the only thing keeping it together seemed to be the shingles as the wood did not seem to have put up much of a fight. Great video... thanks
