I work for the highway company in British Columbia, Canada. We trapped beavers and unplug culverts all the time love your videos! Keep the roads in good shape.
On my break in my truck in Öjebyn, Sweden and I can't think of a more relaxing way to spend it. So thank you once again. Love your continuous effort and content. Keep it up, buddy.
1:40 The active ingredient in poison ivy (urushiol) is used as a lacquer in Japan, so in its refined form it's like a polymer. There's a tree in Japan that has a lot of the stuff in its sap, and you can also find it in the wood of cashew family trees including mangos, so if you have cashew or mango wood, it's a really bad idea to burn it. I think the rule of thumb is, if you're repeatedly exposed to any kind of polymer (latex, resins like epoxy), your immune system is eventually going to start developing a reaction to it. Thing is, the resin in poison ivy will usually trigger a reaction in most people, so it's really interesting that urushiol doesn't trigger a reaction in Post.
It's a genetic wildcard; my mother was completely immune to poison ivy, no matter how much she tromped through the woods and brush. Her sisters, though? Itch-central if they followed her through the woods~
I thought the more exposure you had the more immune you become 😮 guess I need to stop walking through it in shorts lol. Been immune since I was a kid, dont want to ruin that! It looks painful
My grandmother was immune to it she’d pull it out using her bare hands. That ended when she was around 85. She started to stay a mild reaction to the poison ivy so she couldn’t just pull it out of the ground anymore
As a southerner your comments made me chuckle. We stick our whole arms in random holes in swamps with so much worse than snapping turtles to pull out fish lmao. We all grew up playing in poison ivy infested woods and I mean deep in the woods far from roads. I thank you guys for reminding me how different it is.
I’ve once seen an entire (smaller but still big) side of a barn completely COVERED in growing poison ivy (in Indiana). We were cleaning it up, and learned later not to burn our debris piles from that. Too late, I had a mild reaction (though I’m often immune), everyone else got it bad.
Poison ivy will adapt to its environment- It can grow as a vine and smother fully mature trees, trail over the ground like a ground cover, or grow into a shrubby 'bush' the size of a small tree.
It is not really bad at all. I've seen some smog the past couple days but we've been getting a lot of rain here which is making it unnoticeable with all the clouds. Air quality alerts I don't even think are issued for most of Maine and Northern New England
When you encounter poison ivy wash your clothes with Dawn dish soap and use the Dawn to wash any part of your skin that may have come in contact with the poison ivy. Also wash all of your tools with Dawn and that should help. Don't wait until you have a rash, prevention is key.
Hi mate and wife I am watching your video right now and I love watching your video right now and keep your videos coming can't wait to see you again Terry from uk Eva baby xxxx xxxx
I seriously start laughing out loud when you said “is that toothpaste? Stay safe buddy! Don’t get sucked into any culverts! Glad that you went to visit your mom on Mother’s Day. She did a good job as a mother. You turned out to be a thoughtful, respectful man.
Hey post, be careful with that poison ivy in the future. My mom wasn't allergic to it.... Until she ended up with a rash all along her neck, throat, and face. 😬
I thought Wow the green pants are back. I am glad you explained they are not the original ones. I thought you did rip them on a train. I hope your mom had a good Mother's day! I will say again how Lucky you are to not be allergic to poison ivy. I didn't think you would be back so soon to this spot. It seems you were just there.:-)
Even though I rip them on the train I continued wearing them for a while until eventually I just ripped the entire but open when I bent over in a video
Thanks Post! Looking forward to any videos from this week.... are you getting the crazy air quality issues from the Canadian wildfires? We are pretty bad in upstate NY. Stay safe my friend!
I noticed a little bit of smog a couple of days ago but it is completely unnoticeable where I am now because of all the rain, it's not raining a lot but it's basically drizzling on and off the entire week which is helping block it out
02:05 Yes Posion Ivy does flower, just like any other plant. The flower part of any plant is the reproduction organ that allows plants to spread their offspring.
"Maybe today when we go walking down the other way we might even see some frogs which will be pretty exciting." One of the many reasons I love this man's content.
Yes that is definitely possible but it is often difficult to dig up the bulbs, I bought multiple bulbs at the store last year and none of them apparently came up this year.
I do exactly the same thing, I killed a couple tents in my yard earlier this year and I obviously missed a few because some of the trees are missing leaves. Anytime I see an invasive species I kill it
Your mama is one lucky lady. I’d love to get those flowers and a barrel garden. You seem to be a very caring son and that’s sweet. Not that I don’t appreciate what I do get, my daughter is a thoughtful gift giver, and I’m very grateful.
I'm in Central Texas, and it amazes me how people casually just go to other states. It's a minimum of 4 hours driving to get to another state where I am, and that's with generous speed limits. OTOH, there's at least one ranch in the state that is bigger than the entirety of Rhode Island.
I think most of us in the central & western states feel the same way about that. I'm in central CA so I can get to NV pretty quick but AZ or OR is another story. Driving across a few east coast states is the equivalent of a several city road trip to you guys in Texas lol
The birds you're seeing are most likely Red-winged Blackbirds. They are all over wetlands. They are mostly black with orange patches on their wings. Baltimore Orioles have a lot more orange on them and aren't usually seen in more then two at a time as a pair. Red-winged Blackbirds are usually all over in an area as it is their nesting habitat.
I agree. In marshes ...red wing blackbirds. Orioles have more orange on their wings as well as bodies, I thought...black birds just red on wings and larger than orioles, I think
I recently saw some Baltimore Orioles, they were actually in a marshland. But there were only 2-3 pairs I saw while the red wing blackbirds were everywhere
@@vectorm4 southeastern New York in a place called The Great Swamp. Was on a paved path that goes straight through the wetlands. Actually saw them in a tree next to a beaver lodge.
I really liked this video. You did a fast cleanout. I'd like to see you go back to unclogging culverts under railroad tracks again. Those were so cool.
A couple Department of transportation's have tried to hire me but unfortunately they were all far away. I would not take a job working for them but I would be third-party subcontractor
This makes three times already for this year on this culvert, I don't have any problem with that, I'm looking forward to more of the north woods culverts getting unclogged, I think the twin gas/diesel fuel tanks in the beaver swamp you got chased in is my favorite culverts, I've watched those videos multiple times, there's just something about those twins that keeps me going back to watch
I'm so allergic to poison ivy I can catch it in the wind then I have to go to the Dr and have a shot. Our poison ivy is 3 leaf on a vine and red berries on the vine
Those birds, as you guessed, are most likely Northern (aka: Baltimore) orioles. Orange and black (bright orange for males. Paler orange for females). Beautiful singing birds, with a wider range of songs than even Cardinals. If interested in attracting them, lots of people will cut an orange in half and place it on a railing. But what they love even more is grape jelly! That'll have them coming in no time! Other birds as well seem to love grape jelly, such as red breasted woodpeckers, purple finches and rose breasted grossbeaks (also a very pretty bird!).
Notice at 14.35 minutes, the lady ask's 'what are you guys doing?' Post 10 is not alone doing this stuff, although Ghost 10 maybe gone, haven't seen her since the huge trip out West last fall. 🙁
