Well, actually we both gain and lose life at the same time, no matter what we're doing. We gained 20 minutes of life, since 20 minutes ago, but we also lost 20 minutes of life, the life that still remains to every single one of us. But hey, I understand what you mean, and you're absolutely right :) sorry for being a nerd.
That's scary as hell bro people be flying drones near me for years watching me I wondered where those shots randomly rang out from the sky and I took cover for my life
Even though this is just a shade over 21 mins long, this is quite possibly one of the greatest films a human has ever created. Or, at least the greatest snowboarding film, haha. Torstein and Craig have created an absolute masterpiece here in Light, and deserve major props for their hard work, production, music selection and incredible vision to make it a reality. Same goes to the film crew for their incredible hard work! From the dreamy almost hallucinatory like opening scenes, to the epically huge slow motion jumps, to the otherworldly powder and trees of the backcountry in Hokkaido. Then on to the emotional almost transcendent-like feeling of the third section with Torstein dropping in with the help of his buddies through the trees, to the tree surfing, to the drone fly thru of the Baldface Lodge, to the final silly firework ending section, this film has it all, and is one of the best films I’ve ever watched, snowboarding or otherwise. It’s almost paralyzing in its beauty and power and my attempts to describe its beauty can not do it justice. This film has some of the greatest snowboarding scenes and snowboarders you’ll ever see in your life and the most perfect music to merge with the footage to become one brilliant piece of art, and I’m thankful for that. Thankful that Tor and Craig had this idea and made it come to fruition. Every time I watch this, I literally feel like I am in another world. Tears sometimes come to my eyes during different viewings of this as it is just such powerful stuff. It shows me a world I once had dreamed of entering. As a child and teenager, I wanted to be an expert level backcountry snowboarder, live in the mountains and spend my life doing what these guys get to do. A world where nothing else matters. No pain, no suffering, no stupid human problems, just pure ecstasy. Perfect, cold, deep fluffy powder. Good friends. Epic huge mountains that inspire awe and fear. But that never happened for me. One of my life's only dreams, unfulfilled. And when I watch this film, I sometimes have those deep painful emotions come up, and it brings a tear to my eye. But it’s a happy kind of sad. I know I’ll never be able to do what these guys do, nor live that life. But seeing them live it is so beautiful. I feel so happy for them, that they get to live out one of life's sweetest dreams, and that is really emotional for me. Somehow this film and the music makes me have all those feelings, and it’s just such a pleasure to watch. It’s the combination of the slowed down speed of everything to give the film a certain resonance and the massively hypnotic/dreamy music that heightens the action and emotions you feel. Using Autolaser’s Cornelius album for the music is pure genius on Torstein and Craig's part. The music is not unlike the genius of Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross, Philip Glass, or Hans Zimmer. It’s powerful, emotional, moving, deeply layered instrumental music, yet so calming and tranquil. It’s stunning and awe inspiring, and it carries the scenes in the most incredible way. Especially the title track Light, with its flittering high sounds and low resonating bass tones that create the illusion of flight and tranquility. Music can be a hindrance or truly powerful stuff to help create something that transcends even film. Christopher Nolan and Hans Zimmer know a thing or two about this idea, and I’m not being overly dramatic when I say, the first three sections and tracks of this movie are pure genius. The music works with the film, and is not a distraction like most snowboard movies. The idea to include a lot of the sounds of the snow and boards over the snow is another brilliant idea incorporated by Tor and Craig that really makes this film stand head and shoulders above anything else. I could go on all day about this film, and all my favorite parts, but there are too many to go over and this would become a book, instead of a review. It’s already crazy long, haha. Words such as transcendent, mystical, ethereal, dreamy, unearthly, otherworldly, metaphysical, blissful and heavenly come to mind while watching this. Seeing these fortunate sons of snow, glide and surf across the powder in slow motion is almost too much to bear. It’s heaven on earth, and sends shivers down my spine every time I see this. This film is a masterpiece and work of art. I can’t thank Torstein and Craig enough for making this, and having the vision to make what I consider to be the greatest snowboarding movie ever, and in general, one of the best short films I’ve ever seen! The music, the cinematography and the riding are without equal and it feels like time almost slows to a standstill while watching this. It’s just so Epic! There’s such a unique serenity and calmness while watching this, that makes you feel like “this is probably what heaven feels like.” And a huge part of that is the music. It transports you and makes you feel like you’re in some other realm of reality, that we can only get glimpses of occasionally in this life. I want this music playing on my deathbed it's so good, haha! I’d say the closest thing I could say I’ve experienced that feels like watching this movie, is like the most beautiful hallucinogenic trip or dream I’ve ever had. It’s that powerful!
I have no idea how nobody has replied back to this comment, but holy shit. We’re basically family now. I…love you. Love your brain. To go through the comments and find someone describing every single thing that runs through my body, mind, and soul every time I watch this video…I think I’ll just say that it has me on my couch sobbing at 2:45 in the morning right now. I’m just so enamored with the human condition. Your comment was beautiful. Thank you for giving me the experience of reading it. As if watching this fucking masterpiece for the millionth time wasn’t enough. Thank you dude. Yours sincerely, some random girl in Vegas!
Would like to chat with you about this comment. Tonight is the first time I’m seeing it and I am in shock. I need to re-read this a few times tomorrow and find some words. ❤
Hey Craig, whenever you want to chat, just let me know. Can't thank you and Tor enough for making this one of a kind masterpiece. I'm not a very good writer, and wish I could write how I really feel when watching this. But alas, writing silken prose that conveys how such a powerfully moving film can make you feel, is not my strong suite@@craiggouweloos
Absolutely stunning. The cinematography was breathtaking. That constant shot off the FPV going through the shack and then following the rails to that table feature thing blew my mind how perfect the whole thing turned out.
As everyone agrees here, probably the best snowboarding movie I've watched.. Seriously perfect holy cow.. Scenes, music choice, atmosphere, direction, crew.. Everything's perfect
This does such a good job of capturing the serenity of riding back country, when everything is just perfect and despite the chaos that is snowboarding, time just stops for a moment. Love this!
A movie, and you can't call it anything else! Literally from the first minutes hooked and did not let go until the last minute ... in one film everything: childhood dreams and fantasies of a mature man! Super! Bravo!!
This is exactly the BEST kind of snowboard movie to me. I love that you made the snow the main sound of the movie and the music accents it rather than taking over. Thank you bringing this into the world. ❤️❄️
This get me smile dude, amazing!!! Best Video I´ve ever seen since a while... JUST SNOWBOARDING love it, the silence makes it so harmonious and focused... a peace of Art
"This shit's meant to be fun..." hit me hard. It's so easy to get lost on the road to the experience. As soon as you turn the cameras on, turn your expectations on, push away your limits and boundaries and safety... it's a fine line between hitting something incredible and having no fun at all. I understand that pressure, and I hope you continue to find your passion and stay in the flow zone, may the stress go away with wisdom! Incredible film.
Can comfortably say one of my all time favourite videos. Music choice, videography and raw talent just to name a few elements of this true masterpiece. Good on you guys, fucking love it.
The ultra-smooth, artisticly beautiful, and sonically mesmerizing beginning of this film soothes and captivates while subconsciously glistening and rising with the suspense of magical-madness to come. You have created cinematic snowboarding. Like nothing i have seen or heard. Thank you.
Maybe something is wrong with me, but those slow Back 180 are one of the most satisfying trick to watch. It's so chilling, the essence of snowboarding for me. I really love this film.
17:36 is my fav shot of the whole video. rodeos are my favourite tricks, and this one shows beautifully that a BS rodeo is an off axis spin, not a backflip late 180. textbook example right here, beatuiful
The landscapes, the sceneries, the emotions, the freedom of becoming one with the nature. All that bind with beautiful music that just warms your heart. 10/10
Лучшее сноуборд видео! Уже почти 4 года я его постоянно пересматриваю! Это такой релакс и наслаждение! Красивые кадры, красиво снято, красивые места, красивые трюки! Спасибо, что вы создали это видео!
That was a blast! Especially the roman candles on the drone. Man the stuff you can do with those things is amazing....the snowboarding was pretty cool too!
Torstein, I remember your silly clips from back in the day.. I used to live on those, draw all my inspiration to hit the slopes.. Great to see you are using that creative energy to make something beautiful and rejuvenating. The feeling of an artists work maturing with you is nothing short of miracle
One of the best Ive seen in years. Deleting the reality-show gimmick, helicoptor promos and repetitive attempt-fails served you well. This was as pure as it gets. Beautiful.
The music to all of your videos is amazing. I love watching them but I also have them as background music for when i'm doing school and I have found it to be the best thing to do work to!
Sick shredding. The soundtrack and sound design were incredible. The cinematography was just awesome. The drone shots were amazing. I got the same vibes that I got from the Art of Flight. Stellar job guys! Please make more, I feel so pumped to go riding again!
