@samowens I have found that once the Light Bulb Camera has been setup using the App and Wi-Fi signal along with setting Motion Detection On. You can disable the Wi-Fi to the Camera and not use the App. Watch my video all the way through for a full demonstration.

Great video Sam. You also can down load the app on your computer and view live and SD card footage. You can record live footage and store that to a file in your computer or take and load the SD card in your computer and you can save all or part of the information in a file so you can save footage without any need for the cloud.

You can search in the Wi-Fi of your phone and find and connect to your camera directly and control it without a network. I did this with an old tablet and stuck it on the wall for a constant monitor without network.

@Marcusjames, you are correct. As you setup the Light bulb camera, the first step is to connect your phone to the camera and at that point you do have control and operation of the camera. You just are not able to connect to the Camera through your network from the office or across the county. So most people run right through to the network setting to get full control from away from home. I see this is the case with most all the Security Cams I have reviewed. Marcus, you are the first to discover this and post your findings. Thanks, this may prompt others to test the waters and stop at connecting the phone to the camera. I find most people are afraid of any connection to any Wi-Fi as someone may see their private life. I push, using the camera without any Wi-Fi connection and just capture video and review memory card when interested in looking at a time period. It will record full time all the time. The camera can can be moved by hand to select another view as you desire. You just opened another possible use, thanks Marcus for posting.

I have a icam365 and it has a mode for intelligent tracking. I switch on the intelligent tracking but it keeps switching off. So I read the instructions and it says "set the monitoring position, then turn on the smart tracking, and return to the set position after 15 seconds".

If it has a cloud subscription service it is not a security device it is a privacy piracy device. Choose your security device carefully. Subscription-based security product that pitches a cloud service for easy access are simply a dressed up version of man in the middle privacy piracy. A proper security system would have a private cloud with complimentary DDNS service. Any subscription service would be for manned security patrols and emergency response on request. Also ethernet over power to an ethernet port is a better option as jamming of wifi is not hard. There needs to be a security screw to prevent theft.

Thanks for passing along the great video. I just purchased four of these cameras and plan to locate them outside. I was wondering how far the Wi-Fi reception tends to be? My main concern was one I wanted to place outside my detached garage, that leads to an alley behind our neighborhood row of houses. The garage is about 50 yards from our house (and router for WI-FI), with an entrance in the backyard. At least now, I know it will not need to be connected to the WI-FI for it to work. Also, I could just set it up to record to the memory card, when movement is detected. That should be interesting, because one of my neighbors said she saw deer walking down the alley, late at night, and eating leaves from bushes. That would be an awesome catch, along with the possibility of some curious aliens........LOL!!!

@rickydrone thanks for commenting. First I need to explain that you will not be able to use any features like detecting movement and only record that. Yo need to set the camera to record all the time. But you can manually move the camera to capture areas. There is no one size fits all. To use the features of the camera you need WiFi and the app. The app has the features. In my video I let you know you can just capture video all the time. But, first the camera has to be fully set up for WiFi operation. Just make sure you set the camera for continuous recording. I am not sure if they will take a 128gig memory card. Good luck. I don’t think the camera WiFi will work as far as you need.

I'm sorry to sound ignorant, but with the SD card does it record 24/7 until the card is full? Or does it just record when it detects movement? I like the idea of this but need something that records all the time. Thanks for your information.

@cruisingcory5414, you have a valid question and I have the answer. In the settings, the gear symbol, you will find under card storage, you can capture video full time, you need to click, full time and it will record till the card is full and start recording over the oldest video. 128 Gig is largest card the camera will work with. Look through all the settings and you will see all the options. be sure to hit the save symbol, I think it is a check mark. When complete the settings go back and check that you saved them.

@bhaj4588 yes, that camera was the first lightbulb camera I got and it is discontinued. It is not waterproof and that was an issue to deal with installing outdoors. I receive a waterproof Lightbulb camera recently and have a video demonstrating the features and how to set up. Here is a link to Amazon where you can view my video and order if needed. Ok but it possibly works for you because you appear to have subscribed to cloud storage? I didn't and couldn't reconnect to WiFi which is fair enough as that's how all the paid functions for the camera are provided but while I can use the camera in a static position it makes a very loud beeping noise which means it's pretty well useless to me!

@leshughes6307 For your problem of loosing video when you moved the camera outside, your WIFI signal may not be strong enough at the location you selected for outside. I have found you need to be close to your WIFI for it to work. It does not have a long range and walls will effect the camera. You need to move the WIFI router or the camera and then try it. I am sure you will find a location the camera will work. I do have my original video of details on how to install the camera. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gfGqW_ZI81o.html As far as another camera, they are all basically the same, but first check my recommendations for moving the camera, you will possibly have trouble with other cameras if the WIFI signal is not close to the camera. It is just a weak system for receiving WIFI.

Hello Sam Great Video, However by not connecting the camera to the network when your out and about You can't get notified that there is activity on your camera . SO the Bluetooth between your camera and your phone is fine as long as you never leave. I guess this would work for people home and the camera is connected to light socket outside your front door. I know a lot of People who have the camera set up on there network so they can get alerted when when there is activity that the camera detects while there at work. I purchased 2 of these cameras however I did not realize that you need to purchase a subscription in order for the software to prompt when there is activity when your out and about. If you know a software that does not require a subscription I sure would like to know what it is and where I can download it. Thank You, John

Yes on your comments of use for Camera for people at home. Using without wifi connection only allows recording a video capture of what the camera caught during a past time. For full alerting, control and viewing live video, you must be connected to the internet. If you are not worried about being hacked, connect to wifi and use the camera and don't worry. You do have to subscribe to services for the full use of all features of the Camera. The camera can will capture video live without subscription and you can move the camera and access while away. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SUBSCRIBE TO GET THE BASIC RECORDING AND CAMERA MOVEMENT FEATURES AS I JUST DESCRIBED.

Nothing even with Wi-Fi. AC is the power, no battery backup. Mount camera out of easy reach.

@James Smith for one thing, your Camera must be near the router to get a strong signal. I have found if it is not close enough you will have issues with controlling the camera. The Lightbulb camera does not have a long range for wifi reception. To test it out move the light bulb into a light socket that is near the wifi router for you location. This will let you know if the camera is able to work properly. As far as tracking, you have to have tracking turned on in settings.

You need the app that your camera requires. There are many Light Bulb Cameras, so you need the paperwork that came with your camera and it states the app. My app is Yi Lot I have another lightbulb camera that has an App called Symynelec. As you see, it is hard to tell you what you need. You need to correct app for your camera.

Thanks for this idea. 🙏🏼 That’s pretty cool even if WiFi network isn’t working! The only issue with these lightbulb cams for my needs is, I can’t have my outdoor night light on. Right no now my light comes on at night to light-up our walking path. If anyone has a hack to have both Timed Night Lighting AND security cam features, please reply to this comment? Otherwise, what a good discovery for these inexpensive easy to install cameras! Thanks again.

@gumrihess, you need a light socket splitter and you can have two sockets one for camera and one for the light. On Amazon search "outdoor light socket splitter". So you can have both. Good luck.

@runtz61 There are ways to stop the camera from recording, but you being a minor, I would not want to contribute to you hiding camera view from your parents. Just talk to your parents and see if they will work with you to do what you want. They are looking out for your well being. As you get older, you will understand why your parents do what they do. Do not sneak out of the house!!!

Live video is what the Cloud is all about, you have to pay for the premium features. You also have all the video you capture on the Card. You have to pay for cloud service if you want all of the big time features. This is call marketing at the biggest level. At Disney World, in the beginning. They had A,B,C,C and yes E tickets. The E tickets were the Big rides and most fun. You got a booklet of tickets, guess how many E tickets you got. 1, you got a bunch of the others. This is what the Light Bulb is all about. I use the mem card for all my video free and totally acceptable to me. Just use the mem card and save your money.

Totally over MY head, but wouldn't think it would be THAT hard to figure out, for someone who deals with this sort of thing.... If they just cut out the "timer" on any of these apps... You screw it into the light socket and turn the light switch on...that powers the camera up.

My somewhat disappointing experience with this type of camera is..."Yes". Either you pay for a subscription and get the camera with all its functions or you use it with an SD card as a limited security camera but the problem with the latter situation is that it beeps regularly and loudly which, I guess, is to force you to get a subscription (WiFi connection with paid cloud storage)!

@@paulneri835 mine doesn't do that and I don't pay for any cloud or other subscription of any kind. I monitor all my cameras throughout the day from work. And I check the little clips of the critters that show up on the back porch thru the night. The free version works fine for me as I can check the live status any time I want, and the little clips (6 seconds each) are enough for what I want. You can save the little clips if you want before they go away. Obviously you get more services if you pay, but I don't need that bit. And I got my cameras for $8 apiece on eBay. I tried one out...then when I got it all figured out I bought more!

@lindapatrick the bulb cam does not have a strong Wi-Fi signal receiver. Your phone is much stronger. Your came needs to be close to Wi-Fi router to get a strong signal. Your phone cost $600 the cam $$40. A Wi-Fi extender can help. Look int it.

@Tammyfader681 Tammy, this is a clear sign that the place outside you have the camera is not getting the full strength wifi and it is failing. You will need to get a wifi extender and connect it to your Modem then you will reconnect your camera to the wifi extender. Get some help if you do not know how to do this. Or move your modem or your camera to a location that works. Sometime, moving a foot can make all the difference. Doors, walls, garage doors all block some of the signial. you should experiment with locations around the house with both items to find what works. Trial and error.

@@samowens44 I'm very sure it's the wifi I switched providers to save money but you really do get what you pay for I'm in Canada to have wifi and few channels of crap was costing 300 a month . But the wifi never legged now its like I have dial up again lol.. the camera I swear is not more then 10 feet from a router. My TV is about 1 foot from it and it still buffers at time grrr

I just installed one yesterday and I was good at alerting me throughout the evening & overnight, of any movement. Even when my sprinklers went on, I got an alert. Suddenly the next morning, I stopped getting alerts. I can't find anything on the app that helps me find out why this is. Would you happen to know?

Distance of Wi-Fi signal can cause things like that. If you can move camera or Wi-Fi closer. The camera does not have a strong Wi-Fi reception.

Sorry to bother you with questions again but, for some odd reason the alerts corrected itself and started to come in. But, I'm now noticing that the picture is blurred, as if I zoomed in and I can't seem to get out of that zoomed mode. I tried tilting the camera from side to side and up and down but it's still zoomed in and blurry. Again I can't seem to find how to unzoom anywhere in the settings. Would you happen to know?

@@Lorirunninglate1 the only zoom for the camera is using two finger spread, you may try to use fingers to take it out of zoom. also, you can look at the quality of picture in lower left of screen you see FHD HD and Auto. Use the arrow and select a different mode and see what you get. Use HD is lower setting than FHD. Takes for WiFi for FHD. You may also want to look at updates for camera firmware. Use the gear icon and try seeing if you have the latest firmware. Look under Camera Settings. Good Luck.

@@abitofeverything2254 Glare on glass could interfer with the motion detection. Reflections could cause issues. I think it would not work, as it was designed to be mounted out for full view of surrounding area and not through glass.

Hi, I bought the ycc365 plus which is basically the same as all the others. What annoys me is that motion detection wont record to the sd card, you have to buy a subscription to their cloud service. I can record continuously to the sd card which is not what I want!!! Rant over...

@Don Rossie, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have seen the same thing with most of the security cams. They give you the basic record feature, but to really get the big key ones, you do need the cloud. It's kind of like the printer and ink cartridge thing. The printer cost you little, but boy do you pay for the cartridge. I don't care, as I record live, then I can speed watch the video from mem card on video player, if I want to search for something. On the Player, click and drag the pay bar across to end of file. If anything moves, you see it quickly. Mostly, I look sometimes, at night video just to see who came into our neighborhood. This work great for me. I do not use the wifi. I twist the camera by hand to position I want and let it record all the time. Rant over also.....

Not sure what camera you have (although it looks identical to the ycc365 plus) but my app lets me make instant records but when I leave the app, the recording stops so I would have to keep my mobile app running all night!!. Im currently investigating useing RSTP to get the camera stream through a web browser...have you heard of RTSP (its a streaming protocol). Cheers Don...

@@lawaver I see now, you are talking starting a recording by clicking record and it only records while on the app. When you close the app, recording stops. I know, I had that part of it. I just live with all time recording and just find the time I want to watch. Don, I think if we could have input into the design, we would have it record Motion Detection and instant recording to the memory card and we would be happy.

@@samowens44 I now use motioneyeos (Linux) to record motion detection and to view live view the camera. I still use the app for all the bells and whistles but not to record. Get onvif device manager which gives you the RTSP address which is then used in motioneyeos to record the camera. You can also use VLC with the onvif rstp address to check that you can connect to the camera and prove that the rtsp address is correct. I hope this helps....cheers Don...

@Mendy Morris, there are a lot of things to make the camera not work. If you want, you can reset the Camera and delete the camera from the App and start over. Follow the steps closely and make sure you don't miss one. The reset button for camera is a little hole next to memory card. On the App is a place to delete Camera.

@@MilenKoMX I mean a few day of 24/7 at a lower quality video. HD will require more mem. I suggest, you capture video and see how much you get, it is the only way to determine how long a mem card will capture new video. If you have the camera in looping mode, it will capture over the oldest video. Now, in motion detection only capture recording, you will get a lot more days of recording on the card. Now, once you determine how much you can record till card is full, you can then know how big a mem card you need. Just make it easy and get a 128G memory card the top limit and you may get a week. I can not really answer your question as there are too many variable's. Just do a test on your card. Good luck.

@@MilenKoMX Yes, you can access the camera away from the location of installation. It must be connected to WiFi, does not need cloud. You will be able to view live view and move the camera positioning. You can control the camera from afar.

@stephenmason5682 sorry, I must not have been clear. To operate the camera, you must download the App and set the camara up with options you want. The camera will not work without doing the initial setup. After it is setup, then you no longer need the app or wifi to have the camera to capture video. You can not control the camera, but you can manually move the cam head up down left or right to capture what you want. Then you can remove the memory card to check the video files. If you want to control the camera, then you have to have Wifi and use the App. My video was mint to help the folks that are afraid of using Wifi and App for hacking. So, to answer you question again, you must do the inital setup to have the camera to work. You must see things like capture video full time or only when motion is detected and all that. Without fifi or app operation, I suggest capture video all the time. Good luck and explore what you can capture with your new Cam.

@@stephenmason5682 Before you do, I must tell you, you need to have your smart phone and select the same wifi for the device. First you have to get the camera connected to your wifi. Then you are prompted to connect the app to the wifi through the app. Then scanning the qr code will lock them together. Look closely at my first video for the Pan and til cam. I demonstrate the process. Find it on my youtube channel. I think you can do it.

What do you mean it still totally works? Are you able to monitor and interact with the audio and video in real time? If the answer is no, basically all you have is a trail camera. That logic is like having a pick-up truck that doesn't run, but you say it still totally works because you can use it like a wheelbarrow. I don't know the answer to this, but by turning off your Wi-Fi connection, is it now open and searching to connect to another (your neighbor's) Wi-Fi connection?

Depending on the hardware and user's knowledge, you can connect and utilize LAN only instead of WAN and do all you say, besides taking off the load on your bandwidth, say if you have a huge number of these junky cameras.

@jerryhinds6009 Jerry, you should worry about your credit card more than the camera. The camera is just a fun thing to watch what is going on outside your house. I would not mount it anywhere else. Inside your house is private place and no cameras. This way you don't have to worry. Just enjoy your camera and worry about your credit card use, that is where you can really loose.

The camera may work with your home wifi off, but who wants to turn their wifi off. As soon as you turn the wifi on for your computers or streaming TV's in the home, this camera will reconnect to your wifi and has all the original vulnerabilities.

@Chris Graham, you can disable just the Bulb auto connect to Wi-Fi in your router settings. You can turn it on while you are away from home to allow to connect from when away from home. The motion detection part works without being connected to the Wi-Fi so it will pick up motion. There are so many ways to use the cam like on your front porch places where you do not worry about your privacy. I am giving people options that are afraid someone is going to spy on them. Hey I don't care, as I do not put the cam in the house, I have it in the garage and places that I just capture video and I can speed through the video to watch section. I just sharing another way to use the camera for people that are afraid of the internet connection. Some folks may think you have to be connected to the internet even to capture video. I am telling you, the camera once setup through the app can be disabled from your router and have safe video captured. I think it is some very good information to know about. Your smart phone is far more dangerous for others to hack into and it is connected to the Wi-Fi all the time. I will make a follow up video to share some of this type of information, look for it soon.

What is the cost of the subscription after the 30 day free trial? Also if one wants to connect to the camera is the app when away from home, you would need the camera to be connected to Wi-Fi.

The cloud is part of the App. Now, if you want to watch the Light Bulb camera live, at home or away, you must be connected the wifi. I just give ways of capturing video without wifi, reason is that some people are so afraid of someone hacking their camera. If you are connected to wifi, you can be hacked. What are they going to get at my house, the street and my driveway in front of my house. Myself, I like using the cam to just capture video of sunsets, the planets moving across the sky at night. Also capture animal that roam the neighborhood like coyotes, and other animals. You make the camera work for your needs. You need wifi to change the mounting of the camera. If you mount it hanging, you need to have the video positioned for that, if you change the cam to mount up, you need wifi to go to settings and tilt the cam view for straight up view. But that's what we need, that the camera goes to wifi so we can monitor our home when we are at work or vacation. Is too bad the app asks for a subscription. If you don't pay, the camera goes offline.

@luisVazquez-hx3bk, no you do not have to subscribe. They put the subscription there like you must do it. You do not, read my lips, you do not have to subscribe to the service they offer. Just skip over that and use the camera. find my other Lightbub video where I walk you through these issues, just go to my youtube channel and hunt for it. Either you are the biggest liar or you have no idea what you are talking about. 1. When powering up the camera is goes through a boot process and executes the functions it is programmed to do. It does that regardless of available WIFI. The camera following your movements is, again, a function of the camera software. 2. The data flow from this type of camera is from a. Camera to a router/modem or other type of hot spot near the camera to the service provider which is likely the same company that provided the app on your phone. Wouldn't surprise me if your phone is setup as a hot spot if your WIFI was truly turned off. b. That service provider then streams the video to the app on your phone c. Your phone's app then displays the video on your phone and allows you to manipulate functions on your camera d. The memory card in the camera serves no other function then to permanently store a copy of the video. You can remove the memory card, stick it into your laptop and view the video at your convenience 3. You forgot to tell us that, after the trial period, there is an expensive subscription required to view the camera in real-time 4. Most important, you forgot to tell us that the service provider permanently keeps a copy of the video (read the fine-print when you sign up for it) your camera is taking. I hope you don't have that camera in your bedroom.😁

YOU just wont see it.. they already have all of your information you gave them to start the camera working. I have a number of other camera products I reviewed. They all use an app, doorbell cams, alarm clock cams and some called spy cams. Are you saying the light bulb camera is the only app drive device that captures data. I am only using the cams without the app. I tell others of my experience as you are telling yours. I think it a great little camera with great video quality for a $30 camera. Thanks for posting, good to see other views.

You are missing the part where when the wifi connection that the camera was configured with is taken out of service (power off, change ssid or encryption key) that the camera is no longer connected to the outside world, and the evil company no longer has means to access the data on the sd card inside the camera. Even if they DO have the IP address the camera was configured from, that doesn't mean there's an open port at that address waiting to take their request. The point of killing the wifi that the camera was connected to is to eliminate the company's ability to access the camera.
