I love that you points out that she isn't that evil if you read the books. Tanya wants peace more than war, she enlisted to the army because she knew that as a mage potential, if her nation needs her she can't get away. So instead of waiting to be called for, she enlisted herself to give her more chances to climb the ranks and live comfortable life in the rear. She was happy after they conquered Rhine but after concluding that the enemy army plans to fled and rearmed themselves to fight again, she demands to pursue them to really end the war. Her dream is to build a company after the war ends and live a normal life.
she introduce fascist doctrine and déshumanisation of soldier as in just number on a excel sheet, and most of all the concept of total war where all the ressource of the country become dedicated to war and only war. She introduce loophole in law to target civilian and cities. She is an assumed psychopath who doesn't hesitate to use everyone she can, purposefully causing the death of those that annoy her whenever she can. She might not be caricature of the evil bad guy you often find in fiction, but she definitively is an evil character, lawful evil is still evil. One thing the anime do fail to make clear is that she is not psychotic, when she go on a rampage where she laugh like a complete maniac is actually because she use magic that mimic the effect of various drug that where used during war such as methamphetamine, cocaine and adrenaline. During her first battle she was high as a kite.
I loved these novels. The anime is fun but doesn’t have the appeal of all the history references. I love hearing Tanya talk about Pyrrhus, Hannibal, the dolittle raid, and other stuff.
I haven't read the manga, but I feel like each of youjo senki's version use their respective medium very well. The LN dives deep into politics, strategy and tanya's character, the anime cuts down a lot on those but is pure hype and insanity with great animated fight scenes and the manga is an in-between with more depth than the anime and good panels.
I love the series. It's a classic character using otherworld knowledge but swap modern conveniences with warfare history. Multiple perspectives is always a plus. And Tanya's drive for peace being misconstrued for warlust due to her workaholic approach is entertaining. But Jesus, despite that love, "Long winded" encapsulates exactly why it's so hard to read. I just finished Ln 3 solely so I could watch your video spoiler free. Great video BTW! I love Ln recaps
I feel her military knowledge making comparisons makes it much easier to know what's going on. Also If I recall, she did know, due to meta knowledge that artillery was the God of the battlefield in ww1 and especially late ww2. Knowing pillboxes are death zones. Thus killing them was kinda an afterthought
25:30 the way the type 95 is explained is such a great analogy and yet a very simplistic way to make our protagonist OP and have it feel so fitting 2 generation ahead and 2 different sets of theoretical boosters to the technology and energy management makes you think in general circumstances tanya isn't going to ever have trouble but because the orb is so special they are only going to deploy it in abnormal circumstances because its known to do so much more
Wow thank you so much for making this! I watched this series years ago and occasionally it’s comes to mind. I really enjoyed the anime visuals and the sound track, and the pure chaotic news of a little girl in war, but balanced with a methodical slow paced mind. I read the manga a long time ago and it felt a little lack luster, compared to the anime. I’m glad I got the foot notes through this instead😂. Can’t wait for season 2!
Love this series, but u said they skipped ww I, this latterly starts i. During I. Empire still have "king or emperor". And trench war fair. But love your take so keep.up the good work.
Oh wow, noticed your Vol.4 video in my sub box and decided to watch this. Funny coincidence as I bought 1-3 about 1-2 weeks ago and someone got me 4-6 yesterday. Although I’m still only on Vol.2 Ch2 as I write this.
A little curious, at 3:44 you talk about Sweden Norway and Denmark, I assume what we see in the anime clips you included is in the south of Sweden (though an area that has several times been under Danish rule) main thing i'd just like people to know is mountains arn't really a thing in Denmark, while they are in Norway and Sweden (Denmark is mostly created from erosion of those mountains)
imperial norden is denmark's borders in the medieval times meaning that the empire borders Legadonia on the south. The mountains you see are probably the sweden part of norden and also part of Legadonia.
I bought the ebook version of the light novel and manga because they're on promotion and the anime looks great with high budget...wish I could get a refund. The world and concept may be interesting but I did not like the writing style at all eventhough I like to read and historical stuff. In the end I drop the series even before I get to half a book.
Feel like if she layed low and hosted the sinticet for a few more months she could have asked there her to be moved to another instructor post many in the uni
I watched series and then bought LN. I gave up LN because of the way it is written. Way of writing is very annoying. Lots of chapters feel unfinished. They just abruptly cut off. Either writter is unexpirienced or lazy. Anime solved those problems. Story itself is great.
Personally I really have been enjoying the books, I love the anime and movie so I decided to read the books and I like the new view we get of Tanya. In the books I would argue she is still evil but just in a more understandable way. She still does evil things but we dont view them as evil because they are just her job, to be fair thats how I feel about the anime too like outside of a couple of things she does like the pillbox she just is doing her job and she is just viewed as evil due to her willingness to do it. II am also a sucker for hearing how other characters and people feel about the mc, so I love the other army or soldier perspectives when they are talking about Tanya and her companies acts, but I do find it a bit dragging when its another perspective and they are just talking generally about the war, its neat but often goes on very long with no real staying power in my head. The setting and way everything works in the world I find makes sense and while I agree sometimes the rapid deployment and redeployment can be jarring it at least fits in with what the world has outlined is her units job even if it does seem like a bit of lazy writing as an excuse to have her be in every big battle. Certain plot lines really feel like padding as well like you said, notably the modern day stuff and the god stuff feel really out of place and grind the story to a halt whenever they happen as they have no bearing on anything happening, they have moments that are ok but overall are some of the points I would always skim ahead to how long until the perspective changes. My biggest gripe you skimmed over and its that the fights we build up to or moments we build up to are often a bit anticlimactic just rounding up in 1 sentence or skipped over entirely and we hear about the results, a bit more action would make it near perfect to me but I also understand that I think its done intentionally as the general theme is that war is bad for all involved so to glorify it with battle scenes would seem a bit off putting and in the few more in depth battle scenes we get it often has a trend of Tanya getting caught up in it and being happy she is surviving but then being brought down to sobering earth over what is happening or what it will lead to. As pure entertainment I would like a few more full scenes but I understand why they arent there. I loved your deep dive! and even though it was a few years ago now I wanted to put my thoughts as I read them now, I will come back to watch the next books videos as I finish them up as I really liked hearing your thoughts!
if i remove your memories and give you a new life would still act the same or make choices that you would make now? basically will your character be the same? have you heard of lobotomy, not nearly the same as removing memory but it changes a person character, or soul.
