I couldn’t imagine explaining the context to my folks when I played this way back when. “You see, it’s a song about a woman who’s giving up her literal soul to her son after feeling great regret from having almost ruined her city because of a deal with Satan in an opera contest, but she’s stopped by God who tells her it’s not the right time to die”

i would restart the game constantly just to hear this song over and over again it meant a lot to me weirdly

That moment when you realize this might be Mike's mother to him. That makes this whole "when you wake up, my darling (...) I know, I've got to go away" part much sadder. Update: So I just found out about that interview with one of the creators of the franchise and apparently that wasn't the intention of the song but it's still something to think about.

i think the creator stopping rose from dying is mike in denial about his mothers death. think about it, and it could be that the credits song is mike coming to the realisation of what happened. heather and mike were asked about what happened that day, and they show what happened in detail in the credits. this is point where mike realises that his mother is dead. + the symbolism in the lyrics of real life

It's 2019. That means that this underrated masterpiece is turning 10 years old. Amalee, we need a cover of this song to celebrate the 10th anniversary. Pretty please. And a little side note, this game was actually released on my 9th birthday on October 27th, 2009. Talk about feeling old, am I right?

Watching this in 2019, found my old DS and started playing the Drawn To Life series again. This song was heavily repeated when I got up to it years ago. I remember recording it so I could listen to in on my MP3 😂😂😂 Hayley Chipman has such a beautiful voice, provokes so much emotion 😭

Randomly found this game at Goodwill. I bought it to use its box for another DS game in my collection. Then I tried it out and couldn't believe a cute game like this would have such a deep emotional story, the ending is one of the darkest/saddest endings I've seen in a video game.

The song was so good the creator gave her a free pass at living again and she didn't die

Playing this game when you were a kid you’d always skip the conversations and play the levels for fun and not caring about the story. But playing this when you get older you realise this game is an underrated gem of an emotional roller coaster game. 😢

" and I know, we'll never be apart" and "you'll be the light of" are both in the tune of a certain earlier song in the game, which plays multiple parts in songs. am I the only one who noticed?

I miss my mother...

People tend to downplay the shit that goes on in this game. The main character loses his two closest companions who he continuously worries about and has nightmares about throughout the story, he loses his home, and he is later tricked and betrayed by another "friend" that he trusted. Another kid's mom spends days on the brink of dying, and she nearly forces him to accept her death. Later, two villages are revealed to be strict, tyrannical prison. Finally the end comes, and the villagers find that they have no choice but to continue on to the end of their world. In the end, they all disappear, and it turns out that their entire existence was the coma dream of a little boy who barely survived a car crash, and whose parents had died in that same crash. Damn

Around like maybe 6 or so years ago, I listened to this song with my sister because I found it emotional and it made me cry then. And today, my sister leaves for college all the way across the country, and I'm here listening to this song again to be reminded of those memories, reminded of those times I had with her.

Since Drawn to Life 3 was officially announced, i’ve been feeling nostalgic for the second game and have been looking at videos of the game. Now I’m bawling because this immediately made me remember this scene in particular! 😭

These chords are also based almost solely on the notes of the vocal line and not the accompaniment itself. The song is in C# major with main chord progression being a I V VI III. This one song always appeared when I thought of this game. Strangely, this song always hit me in the heart and I kinda know why. When the scene showed her father dying, that hit me hard. That part in the original game made me cry cause it was my first real game character death. Plus, the sorrow in her voice made me think if me and my mom were in that situation. Just thinking about that made me sorrowful and shed tears. Songs ,no matter where they come from, can affect your emotions substantially. Rose will always have a place in my best video game side character list.

I loved Rose, she was such an incredible character. She was set up from the beginning to be this motherly figure who would fight for her town. When she leaves us, it tugs our heart strings. But the song. *THE SONG IS THE BEST MOMENT IN GAMING*

I didn't understand the plot at all when I played this game when I was little, but I do remember that this song made me start bawling and I quit playing for a week. 😂

Undertale is the first game to make me cry. Then drawn to life the next chapter is the second game to make me cry. The vocals surprised me, then it surprised me even more when I started getting misty eyed and all. I feel like the games that'll make me emotional are going to get progressively more childish on the surface. Also the creator in this game is a douchebag. "Oh what a lovely heart reaching moment, well. FUCK ALL OF YOU! I don't want no death in mah domain!"
