PUNTA GROSSA LIGHTHOUSE.
A HIKING ROUTE.
The Punta Grossa lighthouse is an abandoned lighthouse.
Located on the northeast coast of the island of Ibiza.
At 55 meters above sea level on the Cape of Punta Grossa or Cap des Llamp, at the end of a path that we can only do walking and enjoying one of the beautiful views of the Ibizan coast.
It is a route for walkers with some difficulty.
Both because of the length and hardness of the road, and because of the narrowness of the route.
The terrain that combines flat sections with moderate climbs.
The most dangerous thing about the route is that sometimes the path has become narrow and steep, so we must wear suitable footwear to avoid slipping.
The bicycle route is not recommended due to the obvious danger it entails.
Construction of the lighthouse ended in 1870.
And it had a fixed white light varied by eclipses every four minutes.
In this way, this lighthouse had the slowest pace to touch the Balearic archipelago.
Access to a cliff or steep area with a height above sea level of 127 m.
Indeed, just when the work ended.
The error was exposed: the lighthouse did not fulfill its function efficiently and a lighthouse in Tagomago was the appropriate option.
Thus, in 1914 the Tagomago lighthouse was inaugurated and the Punta Grossa lighthouse turned off its light forever on August 1, 1916.
In 1918 the Punta Grossa lighthouse became the property of the Ministry of Finance.
Since then, the building has been totally abandoned while the passage of time has taken a toll on its walls and its tower.
Which is currently hollow, lacking a roof and covered with vegetation.
There is no sign that indicates the location of this building, so there are many Ibizans who are completely unaware of the existence of this lighthouse.
