very nice explanation. but I have some questions. what should be the safe distance between a any person and the conducting cable during lightening? and, is this device effective with a house having no concrete roof but simple corrugated tin-shed? will the inhabitants staying in such room remain safe during lightening?
Look at it this way, if you don't connect it then the ground potential during lightning strike would be different between the down conductor earthing and building electrical earthing. This is the last thing you need as the difference in potential would create a current flowing between these points. Take this with a grain of salt, but I think you're better off when the down conductor earthing is tied to the electrical earthing as the whole system would bounce to the same potential thereby avoiding any adverse flow of current.
@@gokulakrishnan1377 If you mean the surge currents back-tracking its way into your home, this won't happen with an MOV based SPD as MOVs provide protection bi-directionally.
