Hi! I'm so sorry that you're having problems with Lightroom on your phone. No fun :( I'm not sure how to fix this, but you might search on Adobe's site for some solutions - helpx.adobe.com/mobile-apps/help/lightroom-mobile-faq.html
Hi! Yay!!! I am so glad the video helped you find your missing photos. I am so grateful you took the time to share this comment. I hope you have lots of fun with your photos and Lightroom!
Hi there Mike. I was trying to get rid of duplicates and used a duplicate finder routine. I then removed the rejected photos from Lightroom (I was not foolish enough to delete them, fortunately). After that happened I was looking through my file folders and found a number of folders were present, but listed no folders. I also found that there were some where the folder was gone. I went through the right click synchronize folder option, and that helped for some but not all photos. What's my next step? Mike
Hello! Hmmmm, I'm not sure what's happening in your situation. This is one of those hard to diagnose without seeing it kind of things, I think. Sorry can't be of more help right now...
But I don’t have explanation points. I can’t click find missing file or folder. But still says file can not be found. But it’s clearly in the same place and hasn’t been renamed or deleted.
Hi Michael, hope you can help, I have a document folder on my computer marked Photography 2021 inside that document are subfolders with all the different places that I’ve taken photos so far this year marked by dates. In Lightroom i noticed yesterday all my photos from my 2021 folder have the ? And ! on them and when i click on the ! mark and locate photo it takes me to my Photography 2021 folder but obviously there is nothing there. Do you please have any ideas as im now lost and have no idea and need Help.
Hi Joy! I am so sorry your photos are getting the dreaded "!" in Lightroom. If there is nothing present in the folder where they were stored when viewed from computer, then that means the photos were moved to a different location or deleted. A suggestion to see if they were moved to a different location: on your computer desktop, do a search for one of the missing photo filenames. This should search your entire computer, and any connected drives to see if photos wandered off somewhere unexpected. If that search result turns up nothing, then it likely means the photos were deleted. Check your computer trash/recycling to see if they're in there? Hope this helps and best wishes!!!
Thanks for this. I just imported 2 photos into LRc from desktop then dragged them into trash (the desktop ones)..after editing these photos I got the 'originals can't be found' when I tried to export them into a new folder on the desktop..when I took them out of Trash all was fine again. Is this normal? I'm fairly new to LRc but don't remember this sort of thing with Aperture back in the day ;-)
Hi! Yes, this is normal behavior in Lightroom. Lightroom creates a link to the original photo - it does NOT embed the photo inside of Lightroom. So, if you move a photo (or change it's name), Lightroom no longer has a connection/link to the photo and is not able to do any more editing or exporting on the photo. I'm not sure if Aperture embedded photos when importing, but that could explain the different behavior.
Fascinating! Thanks so much, at least I know now.. I suspect Aperture did embed cos I used it for years and never remember anything similar happening. I definitely need to get my LR workflow/file management up to scratch. @@MSladekPhoto
Which Lightroom version you use sometimes depends on when you started using Lightroom. Lightroom Classic (LrC) is the original version and has been around over 10 years. Lightroom (Lr) was introduced about 5 years ago with a more cloud focused model and new architecture underneath. I prefer LrC because it lets me rename photos during import process and it has a module for creating photo books. Other than that, the features are pretty much the same in each version, just displayed and arranged differently.
Look please help me.. I bought my grandma a new computer, she was making a book for my grandpa when he died in 2017. He never knew. I got her a new computer 6 months ago and copied and pasted her pics onto a thumb and moved them to the new computer. All of a sudden she opened her old computer last week and watched her lightroom book change from her format to an unknown format, the cover is different and order, some pics are gone.. the pics are all still saved on her old and new computer but aren't the same in lightroom. I tried opening recent and recovering lost pics on lightroom snd nothing
Hi! I'm so sorry that this happened in the computer transition. In addition to moving the photos to the new computer, you will also need to move the Lightroom Catalog file. The Catalog (.lrcat extension) is the file that tracks everything in Lightroom, including edits, organization and books. You should be able to find this file in Pictures / Lightroom and then look for the most recent file with .lrcat extension. Hope that helps!
I have stored my photos on external disk. I clicked !" and it sent me to "location". Although the file name the photo is tthe same, i got message that the file or the photos are not same. But I pressed select. Then all my file on the LRC disappeared.
Hi Bill! I’ve not had this happen, but LR might see a duplicate file name already in the catalog and is getting confused. See if this link helps - www.lightroomqueen.com/community/threads/file-name-associated-with-another-photo-in-the-catalog-help.28363/ FYI - this is one reason I use LR to give custom names to all photos during import process.
THANK YOU FOR THIS! Very easy to follow! I found that the photos seemed to missing in Lightroom because I had moved the original folder of them to a new folder. I went to my folders tab in Lightroom, found the folder the photos originally were in, and boom! Photos restored in Lightroom! Yay!
Dude! That was the simplest, easiest explanation of my problem. My problem? I moved ALL of my photos from Lightroom! (35,000 photos to be precise!). If you have an easy shortcut to retrieve all of that at once, I’ll be open to hear it! But at least you gave me hope! I will start now: I renamed outside of Lightroom and I put one year in the garbage bin. But you clearly layed out the process more than the other eight videos I saw before yours! Thank you so much !
Yay! Glad the video helped. Sorry for late reply - just started a new, second job and figuring out new schedule. Lightroom Classic is looking for same paths and names when looking for photos. Sooooo, if you rename to what Lightroom is looking for, that would solve the problem. Otherwise, you'll have to relink individual files. Hope that helps and best wishes!!!
i created a collection for my photos in LRC. I imported the photos. I edited the photos in Photoshop. Went back to LRC and the collection was empty. The only place I could see the photos was under previous imports. How can I move them into the collection I created originally? Thanks !!!
Hi! Sorry you're having problems with photos making their way correctly to collections. I've had this happen too! Every once in awhile, and it appears completely random, Lightroom will not add the photos to the collection that is designated during the import set up process. It's VERY frustrating. So, the next step looks like this: 1) Head to "Previous Import" and select all the photos there you want to add to the collection 2) Scroll in in the Collections panel so the desired target collection is visible (don't click yet!) 3) To drag and drop the photos from "Previous Import" to the new collection, click on any one of the selected photos preview image (NOT the gray box around the image - that will deselect all) 4) Carefully drag selected photos to the target collection until collection is highlighted, then release mouse button to add photos to collection. Another tricky thing with collections - when editing photos in Photoshop, you have to begin in the collection (not Previous Import) they live in so that the edited Photoshop file will show up next to the original in the collection. If you don't start from the collection (say, Library), the edited photo will be in All Photos, but not the desired collection. Phew! Hope that helps!!!
@@MSladekPhoto Thanks for you PROMPT reply. It was frustrating. In my case I had the photos is a new collection to start. I selected edit as layers in Photoshop. I edited the photos in Photoshop and made a copy of the edited photo in photoshop. When I click save instead of the photo showing up in LRC all my other 154 photos had disappeared. So I did something similar to what you suggested and was able to get the photos restored from previous imports. Thanks again !!
@@dfulf1 You're very welcome. Glad to help! Please let me know if you have any other questions. Best wishes on your Lightroom and photography adventures!
Hi Sherry! I'm glad this video was at least partially helpful. I'm not sure what's going on in your library, and would need some more info to help fix. If you'd like, you can email me here msladekphoto.com/contact to get the next level of conversation started.
Hi Stephen. My best suggestion, without know specifics of your situation, is in Lightroom, to click on the exclamation point (!) icon in the top right of a preview image. That will give you the location of where Lightroom is looking for the photo. If it's no longer there, use the "Locate" button to redirect Lightroom to new location. If you don't know what the new location is, I would suggest doing a search on your computer for the specific photo name as shown when clicking on exclamation point. Hope that helps!
In my case, after reformatting my pc, all my drive letters changed. So all I had to do was change them back to what they were before and LR fixed itself.
Hi! Thanks for this tip and reminder. I do something similar when I get a new external drive for photos - just give it the same name as the old drive and Lightroom reconnects everything. Cheers!
Thank you for stating the time stamp for the exact action to find my missing photos (because I moved them). I was able to get right back to work in 30 seconds, and that's a win!
I think the same method should work as a renamed folder or moved files. Start with the missing photo (in Library or Develop module), then click on the "!" in the top right corner of the missing photo thumbnail. Then, click on "locate" and navigate to drive with new name and specific location of the missing photo. Make sure to note the precise filename in Lightroom Classic that it's looking for, and then point to that same named photo. Hope that helps!
Will give it a try but the target external drive will not have been known to Lightroom by its new name...won’t the missing photo be looking for its original drive?
@@blp9724 One of the cool things about using the "Locate" command in Lightroom Classic is it lets you change the "address" (hard drive) where the photos are located. Think of it as giving a new mailing address to the post office :) Best of luck!
